Whether you want do MBA, MCA or MCS or anything else depends on YOU.
See all three are different courses and my suggestion is that you should introspect which career you want and which course would help you achieve it!!...No one can help you in choosing a course!!...Help yourself!!!

Hii Puys, I am new to PG and I am presently working in a good IT company. But feeling frustrated after the initial 6 months. MBA is my dream and want to pursue from a good college(read IIMs). I am aiming for CAT 2011 as the last date for giving it this year has come close. I want to give CAT 2011 the best shot I possibly can, but I dont get much time to prepare because of the work schedule.
Could anyone tell me what strategy should I opt so that I can stand a chance?
Can anyone suggest which classroom course would be best in Chennai? I was planning to join TIME.
Just go through previous years CATpapers and try to solve them (without any time limit). This will give you an indication about your current position. And if you feel that you are not comfortable with basics, then classroom coaching is must. Try to finish with basics by Feb-March. On weekdays ,Carry some study material and practice with it whenever you get free time(even if you get 30 mins).
And the most important thing about CAT preparation is mock- analysis. Analyse each and every mock, and try to find out what mistakes you have made.
Hey bro for GMAT related queries you can post on the relevant threads, now regarding distance course before actually getting into full time , well i presume you are an engineering working in TCS , well did you do a correspondence in engineering before getting into full time course or did you work in some other company before TCS ,so as to have an hands on in an IT firm before joining TCS , bro MBA is lifetime experience and there is no dress rehreasal for it , you may want to check out the curriculum of the courses offered at various institutes and check out few books , if you want to explore the subjects other than that , i dont think you need to do anything else
PS: I was working in Infosys before joining IMI , and worked for 30months

As far as I know, apart from cat scores we need a good profile to impress the interviewer or to crack the interview panel. I think i need to power up my profile in fact start building it for that matter. But the whole thing was so confusing and dont know where to start with it. In fact that's why i felt like i should go for MBA in distance learning but you proved how stupid that was. So do you have any ideas or can you share your exp that could help me serve the purpose?

hi Anshul, there are many colleges with placement figures above 6 lakhs (avg) it ranges from IIMs to Welingker about 20 institutes will easily offer that.
Guys plz see my profile . 10th 59 % , 12th 67 % , bba 51% . if i get in a 90 %ile cat college for pgdm/mba , also im OBC status so govt b schools have some % help for me . do u think i can get placed with atleast 4 lakhs salary after post grad . after 5 years how much does an average mba earn ??

Hi Puneet, be specific to yourself about why u want to pursue MBA is it only because you want to add a few zeros to your salary? any ways lemme come to your query, you pretty average Academic Record i have worse than that and from what i have learnt from seniors is that it is quite possible to get a call even from IIMs at this Acad level only by scoring rly high in the Entrance Exams. about 90%le in CAT will open doors of Colleges like K.J. Som for u which is a very descent college. about u r salary it doesn depend on your acads but what most companies will prefer is what potential you have in yourself so prove u r self and who knows your salary might even hit 40Lakhs.. and about the last part your increment depends on your performance again..
well im doing bba so an mba was always in my plan . my personality is ok as said by people i know and have the capability to work in a team . i have no work ex . hope to get atleast 90+ %ile in cat . my english is good in written and communication skill is decent .
reservation is not there in kj somaiya i guess. im also looking at Goa inst of mgmt . do these 90 %ile colleges give placements to all students who want jobs ? atleast 4 lakhs if i do well in mba by getting atleast 75% in exams in mba . plz help frnd .
See Puneet you will have to decide for u r self where u want to be in coming years, which college you want, by when u want your MBA degree in your hand, what is the ROI factor u r looking out for. i said about KJ SOM since u r capable of a 90%le u dun need quote there anyways they have a cutoff for around 87%le in CAT
GIM accepts XAT score and not CAT
and for your 4L package yes u will get it fairly comfortable with such good aim.

Hey bro atleast 4 lakhs , should not be your criterion for a B school selection right now, please work hard to get into a good b-school, and for getting into good b-schools , work hard on your concepts and get a good percentile in CAT :)

Hi CVB, Welcome to PaGalGuy.com First of all Getting an MBA taking ROI as major Factor of Consideration puts foreign MBA degree in the back seat as the cost of education abroad is rly very high (if u need to pursue it from a top end College) About CAT it would depend on your personal preparations; if you have already started preparing you could give CAT 2011 as a serious attempt and CAT 2010 just to get a feel of it. Looking at the profile you still stand a chance to make it through some of the IIMs and many other top B Schools of the nation. if you want to just boost up on CV and a quick management degree a one year Executive course is also conducted by Various colleges which might interest you in.

I have a low profile with just 67% in 10th, 62% in 12th and 58% in B.Com(H) which I passed out in 2006. After that I worked with Ernst & Young in a shared service environment as an Audit Associate for 1.5 years.This is the only work ex I earned after my graduation.I left it 1 year back.I am now joining State Bank Of Hyderabad as a Probationary Officer/ Management Trainee. During 2006-2010,I did not plan my career well because of ignorance or immaturity.I attempted CAT three times.My last score was 85%ile. I also cleared PE-I or entry level exam of Chartered Accountancy during my graduation.
My ultimate goal is still to 1.Earn an MBA from one of the top 10 colleges.Please tell me what should I do to power up my profile. 2. As a back up, I plan to switch over to Pvt. banks after 5 years of work ex in SBI.Would a SAP certification help?How is six-sigma for that matter?

You must realize MBA is a means to an end and not an end in itself. Don't be so hung up with CAT. Earning MBA for a top college is not at all a goal.
Talk to people in private banks and see what extra qualifications they have and which profile will suit you best and work towards that. Don't blindly try to do every big thing in town - CAT, Six sigma, SAP.
