Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository

I am a cat aspirant but my problem is that i have two live backs in my be and i can clear it on the nov/dec exams hopefully. So will it affect my cat process.
When do we have to sit for the gd\pi and if we have got live backs then what is the consequence of it.I am a final year engineering student. Thanks in advance

i wanted to know that when Mba institutes validate the graduation score of a candidate, do they they check the mark sheets of all the semesters or just the grad degree certificate that mentions the passing class (1st, 2nd or 3rd)???? I am a student of Mumbai university where irrespective of how one scores in the lowers sems, the passing class appearing on the degree is purely based on the performance in the final year.... plz help...

HI,
i m new to ur family...looking fwd for a great bonding........

I am having 4 Yrs work ex, I want go for a executive MBA in finance stream & I wnt to do it in Indian Inst.

guys what do u suggest should i start preparing for CAT(not sure if i have sufficient time for this year, next yr) or GMAT.- actually i have not yet started prepartion...

I want to know what are the B-schools that i can look fwd with 4 yrs exp...and what will be best suitable exam gmat/cat or any other like XAT....

Hiiiiiiiii...
I have a curious question 50,000 bucks
I have signed a bond paper with my company according to which i have to continue my job for 3 years....
N if I resign before the stipulated time then,
I have to deposit a sum of 50,000 bucks.:banghead:
I have decided to leave after two years and not to deposit the required amount

Now the problem arises that,,it won't be giving me experience certificate
So,
my query is that..

Will they pay slips act as a substitute for experience certificate?:sneaky:

As it would be from the day of my starting to my leaving date..enough proof as for my experience of two years.

Joining letter and salary slips may suffice in some situations but many companies do ask for the work-ex certificate and would not be satisfied with the salary slips.
Its not about companies..........but about MBA colleges that I want 2 know about
If I get selected ..will they take my experience into account on basis of my pay slip.
DO reply....

Hey puys... I'm gearing up for CAT 2010 nowadays. I scored 97.71 in CAT, 98.14 in XAT this year (first attempt, no coaching). Got calls from SPJIMR, IMI, XIMB, XLRI amongst others and I'm hoping for a call from IIM-Raipur now. However, being a final year engg student, I had filled up the forms for most of the colleges as a back up in case I didn't get a job. My main interest in MBA is to realise my life long dream of starting a company of my own. Anyways, I attended the interviews for XIMB and XLRI only to get the requisite experience for the next year. I ended up converting the XIMB call and was waitlisted at XLRI (didn't get a final convert). But having already secured a job with a ctc of 6.5 lacs as a senior engineer at a reputed firm, I didn't join XIMB. Now, keeping my reason for taking up MBA in your mind (business oriented), could you please suggest if I should join next year itself or should I wait for another year to get more work experience. Also, which colleges should I apply for this time? Please keep in mind that I don't need any back up like last year and I wouldn't think twice before leaving my job if I get into a good college.

With no coaching,,that 2oo fresher
Getting such a good percentile...and converting XIMB...
U R 1 helluva smart kid
U shouldn't get satishfied wid anything below IIM's next year..
Don't wait 4 two years...as it will disturb your rhythm.
The post in which you are recruited itself is a demanding workprofile..
But guys having two to three year of work experience would be given more preference than you only if your overall points including written,PI,G.D,etc will be same
Now I leave the final choice upto you as u are wise enough to decide yourself

@L33T4U- thnx for the reply. What are ur views regarding the 3 new IIMs? Would it be wise to go for them (if I'm selected) keeping everything (including my ultimate goal) in mind?

As U ..already said that u r getting a ctc of 6.5....
I don't think it is advisable to go for the new iim's as companies would not be giving luxurious packages to the new iim's, as it would be their first time...moreover within 1 year your ctc will increase also.
It is what I said regarding salary,
Regarding your personal grooming and education wise it is not advisable for u 2 join, keeping in mind your calibre...
If u carry on your labour.u will be getting into better colleges nxt year..
BUT AWARE.

DONT LET GO THE ROPE LOOSE NEAR THE SUMMIT

Even I know what you were talking about but it's not really about an MBA, it's more about the companies which would come for placements. That's when the actual problem would start. While getting admission, it's the discretion of the colleges and most probably, it would be counted, but it's the companies two years down the line that would not be ready to accept.

Hi Puys,

I graduated from NIFT, Bangalore in Fashion Technology last year and have just over an year's experience as Asst. Manager in Production Planning & Control in a small-medium scale garment manufacturing unit.

I quit my job in july and since then, i'm preparing for CAT with a pretty decent mindset to get admission in top 15 b-schools (I really do believe i can get into these).

However, my concern is the AIMCATs (5 nos.) which i've started giving Aug onwards where i'm getting a range of scores right from 55 %ile to 85 %ile till now.

I'm good in Quant and cracked AIMCAT cutoffs in this this section till now..
Decent enough in DI, missed out the cut off on couple of occassion though.
VA is a tough nut to crack for me, missing out on all occassions

Query 1 - As a test taking strategy is it useful if i take up VA first (so as to pay max. attention to this weakest section) and then DI then Quant ?? or Should it be Quant first (Confidence & OA score booster), then VA sandwiched and then DI??

Query 2 - What percentile is likely to reserve a seat into the desired Top 15 B-schools?? (Considering PG Rankings)

Query 3 - To get that desired %tile, what should be an equivalent % tile target in mind for the rest of the AIMCATs??

Query 4 - Is this an apt explanation to an interviewer for switching over from Manufacturing to Finance?? "Although my work experience involved corely manufacturing planning strategies but i did get a hands on experience in Company's Future & Sales Margin Reports as i was responsible for formulating them on weekly basis. From there on, i wanted to do an MBA in Finance as i was startled to see the kind of variations in the exchange rates, i wanted to learn the basis on which the economy of the country is based" Suggestions are welcome in modifying the explanation but every word of this explanation is true in real life for me.

Puys, please to help me out with above queries.
Thanks in Advance.

Hi, I'm an electrical engineer working in the paper manufacturing industry for the past 2 and a half years. I dont want to continue in this industry cuz i feel that my skills are being wasted here; I'm more of a people person, I love traveling and interacting with people, learning from their experiences, visiting new places, learning about different cultures and above all, I love to be in an environment where I can innovate, create something new and help others. I dont get to do any of that here and my job is boring and monotonous. I would like to go for an MBA but i cannot decide what industry and job profile i should focus on. I have good communication skills, good organizational skills and I'm able to influence people and establish rapport with almost anyone. Will an MBA in IB be a good option for me? Or should i focus towards marketing or general MBA?
Thanks

Hi,
this is scarlet here. I wish to ask the pg junta out here that are social networking sites included in job experience.
After passing out of college in 2009, I started a forum cum community website which has around 250 members at the moment. Its a finance related website.
I wish to know whether this will be counted as a job experience. I worked on this website from july 2009, and simultaneously was studying for the CFA exams too. so can I show this as job experience. please reply at the earliest.

I don't know how to quote it as a full time job, as I worked on it in odd hours, sometimes 15 hours a day, sometimes 2 hours a day,
but yes, I own the domain name, the hosting, and everything of the website,
can i show it in my job experience for cat and other exams

I'm not quite sure you can quote it as a full time job. I've been a domain trader in the past and have sold domains for tens of thousands of dollars. However, I hardly worked on it more than 10 hours a week. Currently, I run an online business and freelance on the side. Together, I work on these for about 10-15 hours a week and make more than the average IIT grad would make. Yet, because I haven't incorporated, and don't even work part-time (i.e. 20 hours a week), I'm not sure if IIMs will consider it as 'work-ex'.

Of course, your experience in running an online business will give you a lot of brownie points in the actual interview.

hi puys.while surfing through the website of ICFaI university tripura i saw a course PG Diploma in investment banking.it is conducted in distance learning mode.the course contents are good.do you people think that it is worth pursuing this course.will it b able to boost my profile if clubbed with mba?

Hi

Background:
I am BTech in Computer Science with MBA in Marketing from Tier II college (Majors: Marketing, Minor: IT).

I have ~1yr of work ex as a S/W Engg in a small time firm (~10-15 ppl) post BTech. Post MBA I was working with a KPO for ~2.5yrs as a Process Mgr.

As a Process Mgr I was involved in Service Delivery, Operations, Analytics, Process Transitions, Business process reengineering etc. Salary ~9.5 lakhs p.a.

Present Status:
Due to personal reasons I had to shift to Bangalore (frm Mumbai). I joined one of the top IT companies (European MNC) as a Transition Manager. I had to take ~2 lakh salary cut when I joined this firm since this was a move out my desperation to reloate to Bangalore.

Problem:
1. What exactly is the career path of a Transition Manager in an IT firm?
2. I have heard about roles like Biz Analyst, Associate Consultant etc...how does Transition Manager fare along side them?
3. If I am looking for a switch 2-3 yrs down the line, which are the other companies that have Transition Mgmt as a established function (I dont think Infy or TCS has something similar...)

Request you all to please help...

Thanks in Advance
