Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository

Well.. the work ex from November to April is roughly equal to 5-6 months. This will not do a great value addition, but you can continue with the job if you do not get the kind of results which you were hoping for from the interviews...

You can do the courses as well, but then again, if things don't go your way in the interviews then again you have to start looking for a job.

So what I feel is , a job would be a better thing to go for. You'll have something to fall back upon.

I totally agree with what he says. in any case having a work experience of 5-6 months is better than having none as a work experience (have been a victim of no work experience..)

i m 2002 X passout(87% west bengal board). And 2005 hs passout(73% west bengal board).due to medical condition i couldnt attend in 2004.So i was nervous thn.I give a exam conducted by ordnance factory board india.I succeded. Then i completed three years full time training from rifle factory ishapore as apprentice. The course is NCVT.I have certificate and 3 yr experience bt it is in mechanical field. After completion of that course i took admission in BTECH in 2008.so my question is those three years that i hv spent in completing my training as fitter trade,is it be considered as break in study or not at the time of campussing as per the eligiblity criteria of software company..if yes thn hw much year will it be?1 yr or 4 yr?I nd also my DOB is 1st jan 1987..i will passout in 2012.I m from a college which is TCS grade A college. So there will be a good oppertunity. So i have to decided eithr continue study or join the job in the factory...help me..thanx in advance

From what I know.. I think the one year when you were not well will definitely be a break ...... Now if the three years course which you took is a full time one and the work ex which you have is also a full time work ex .. then it ideally won't be considered as a break........

Now coming to your question of whether to continue study..... well.. its 2010 right now.. you must be in your second year.. so it makes sense to continue study .. otherwise.. you will again get a break of 2 more years if you discontinue it right now...

thanks subhas....nybody have different opinion plz post.

Any Breaks before class XII are not considered.

What you did for 3 years after that will be counted as training or workex as you h ave certificate for that.

Breaks or educational gaps means that you dont have proof you did something full time....

Hi,

This is Dharmateja and I got an offer from Goldman Sachs IT Division recently. I had three years of experience. They offered me 10lpa as fixed CTC and said that it doen't include discretionary bonus. Can any body who's working in GS tell me on average how much % of CTC will be the bonus amount.I had other offers from Oracle and CA. HRM people there told that GS is real Pay master. There said that there are only two options to get out of GS. To go for higher studies or retire in GS. I don't think that it is case. Just want to know with this profile after 5-6 years exp in GS, is there any option of switching the companies. Will firms like Morgan Stanley,Citi,HSBC,Credit sussie,JPmorgan Chase will pay on the similar lines of GS?

Anyone who can heip,

I'm interested in pursuing a career in HR/Entertainment and Media/Corporate Communications and such areas, WITHOUT an MBA and qualification/experience specific to these areas.

Is there a possibility to find such opportunities? and what the best approach.

I'm a healthcare professional, and have work experience in my field for many years.
I'd like to change my career direction without having to go back to school/training. And also, I'm not interested in absolute fresher opportunities.. Any advice/suggestions how to or where to apply is much appreciated.

Thanks

PS: I started a new thread in the career discussion forum but was asked to post here, I hope this is the right place.

You will be getting a relieving letter or an experience certificate from your organization. It will mention your date of joining and your last day in the organization. That time period would be your work ex.

IT companies recruit Finance and MBA guys for different profiles. Althothe number of people with finance background get selected more often in IT companies...
because Finance companies are the major clients of IT companies.

The profiles that might be offered on your campus are process analyst, business analyst etc.

hey im sameer.. i have done b.com(hons) and presently im pursuing MA Economics from Panjab University.. & planning to pursue MBA after that...well... i have a question in my mind which is bothering me a lot... Since im already pursuing a masters degree will it reduce my chance of converting calls, as in, will it give a negitive impression to the interviewer and reduce my chances of converting the call.. i gave CAT 08 n scored 88 percentile .. completed my grad in 2009 n thought of giving CAT09 but due to some reasons dropped the idea.. i like economics .. but im not interested in research n all... this year i'll be giving CAT again and im quiet serious about it this time & want to get in the top 20 institutes what come may... main target is to crack iift & fms ...but is this master degree really a matter of concern...?? and are the top institutes really interested in inducting " freshers already having a masters degree "??? plzzzzzz guys help.... thanks in advance 😃

i have completed Btech in CSE
i have placement offer from TCS and CSC
I have to choose one of them
Tcs=3.15/yr
CSC=3 in training and 3.5/3.75 after training

i wan to know does in CAT do the admission panel looks on pay slips for getting you more points or the profile

If its profile too..weather for the 2 mentioned companies which one is more favored by MBA admission panel

Unfortunately in Indian MBA schools, profile of work-experience still doesn't get the same respect as what they use to get in the foreign B-schools.:-(:-(The interview panel can definitely ask for your work-ex certificates and salary slip but then I don't think payslip will get you any more added advantage(points in your case). So go and join any of the company which gives you good working environment and better learning opportunities(need I say good money too??).
