Personal/Career/CAT-job Dilemma Queries : A Repository

Hello puys..

I have a dilemma in mind regarding my placements.. I have got placement in
1. CSC
2. Patni computers ltd.
3. Mahindra Satyam

Now i m not able to decide which one to choose.. I would like if you could pour in your views regarding this.

My profile is Btech(I.T.)..

I would suggest go for CSC...a better brand recognition globally which will help u in long run...I guess the CTC offered would be somewhat similar...

10th --- 86%
12-80.50%
B.Tech (VNIT,Nagpur-Mining Engg.)--8.26/10.00

lots of Extra Curricular; now joining coal india ltd. what's required for a call from IIM's
is my profile is good enough or not?

Would someone else like to put there point forward?

I read your query and did follow the replies to it. Personally, I also endorse Satwinder's views and would suggest you to forget about what's not in your hands. Just concentrate on CAT, GD/PIs etc. and hope for the best.

PS: Don't ask for too many suggestions. It may actually be bad for you since you would get so many varied options that it may be difficult for you to choose the best. Rest is up to you.

Even I was thinking of the same but thought to take other's views regarding it.. Yes the CTC offered is almost similar, though a little higher by CSC..

...i finished my b.e.eee and i am a 2009 passout student...i had about 70..percent in academics...

I want to suggest that to stay engaged, remain intellectually inspired and avoid unhelpful thoughts, you may sign up with a community that provides development and maintenance support to Open Source Software (E.g. the UBUNTU support group, etc.). You don't need to invest much to start: Just an internet connection (even an infrequent one will do) and a PC or Laptop.
Members of such communities (my experience is of UBUNTU) are serious and youll like interacting with them; Who knows, you might even have a paying opportunity coming your way.
You can even highlight your contribution in your B-School essay, later
Best wishes.

Hi people,

I am posting this message because i just gave 3 online practice tests of english and i got bad marks.. I am giving CAT this year too and this will be my 4th attempt...i have joined TIME test series. My prob is that i am not getting good range of marks. Even i am unable to score 60%ile. Feeling very low. I quit the job because of this and now it seems that all is going the other way.. i know i should be motivated till the end....but i am actually. Log khte hain ki 2-3 ghnta daily padhne se ho jayga...aise kaise ho jata hai yarr,,?

I am daily giving 3-4 hours and that is just to english,,and after that if i get this range of marks..then what should i call myself...a loser..or an upcoming winner...how can i justify myself of cracking cat this time when i am not performing currently...Feeling really dejected..:-(:banghead::splat::splat:

Check out both the options and compare them on various parameters.. talk to the college students or pass outs to get the inside view....

As far as steams are concerned ...follow your interests.... you might change your opinion even during your mba .... this generally happens as we get more exposed to streams during the course....

Well..you've given it three times.. so by now I guess you should know that.. Mock scores are just an indication and not a reflection of your actual scores.... So all that matters is those actual 2 30 hrs when you are writing CAT.............

You can try one more thing.... just move away from TIME mocks and take some other mock.. Say CL or IMS..... This might restore the confidence... This happened for me..

There is a lot of luck factor involved as well... during the CAT.... and no matter how good or how bad you are.. there are things which are out of your control....

Prepare hard... There is no point in worrying about the things... Such negative thoughts can only pull you down....!!...

I am from engineering background but do not wish to take up a technical job..have taken a drop and after CAT i want to take up a job that includes management part(though im not really sure what kind of work i want to do). My query is that is this possible?secondly, if i get it should i go for it or take up technical job?

Well..

It is possible to go for jobs which include management aspects..... you can go for them....

Technical jobs can also be taken up.......

These will not make much of a difference.... Even in the technical front.. you can choose the domain of work.. for ex.. working for an IT company ... under the banking vertical would expose you to finance side.....

My interview started with the general introduction of myself and my strengths in particular. I did my engineering in Electronics and Communication so the basic GSM, 3G and Mobile Technology questions followed. After that the issue of my percentage was raised and i tried explaining that my focus was on extracurricular rather than just studies but then the interviewer got a little mad at me. I also tried to explain that my grades were lower in the first 2 years but then i did improve from a 5 point something to 6 but then he just said you dont seem to appreciate what you have earned and thanked me for coming. So it was pretty ruthless.

Did u convert any of the calls u mentioned?

I have taken the gamble of resigning from my job for CAT and other exams after working in a very much reputed MNC. My job profile was related to manufacturing (quality assuarance). I couldnt find time to study ( yess...not even weekends...i had to work on most of the weekends)...neither tht ws helping me in my area of interest (marketing).
So i resigned this july after working there for 1yr. (12 months).
The question is :
1. How much vallue is given to work exp. of 12 months.
2. Is the reason for being at home to prepare for CAT justified ?

1. Workex of 12 months (1 year) is considered very good! You will be definitely given additional marks for that

2. Yes. 100% Justified! So chill and prepare for CAT 2010

BestofLuck

1. Different colleges have different ways of giving weightage to work experience. Some of them consider them in brackets such as 0-12, 12-24 etc..

Some of them give , say , 1 point each for 1 month of experience etc. So you will get whatever is due for you as per by the college norms.

2. The reason is justified but at the same time, you should not portray it in an appropriate manner. The conviction that you wanted to do well in CAT should come out in your answer, in case if you are questioned about quitting the job in the interview.

Well.. the work ex from November to April is roughly equal to 5-6 months. This will not do a great value addition, but you can continue with the job if you do not get the kind of results which you were hoping for from the interviews...

You can do the courses as well, but then again, if things don't go your way in the interviews then again you have to start looking for a job.

So what I feel is , a job would be a better thing to go for. You'll have something to fall back upon.

Back @ PG after a long time.......

Only 3 months left now..... Don't know how to start prep....
