Page and Plant are running on a track AB of length 10 metres. They start running simultaneously from the ends A and B respectively. The moment they reach either of the ends, they turn around and continue running. Page and Plant run with constant speeds of 2m/s and 5m/s respectively. How far from A (in metres) are they, when they meet for the 23rd time?

the 1st time, they meet after 10/(5-2) = 10/3s ... 2nd after 20/3s so 23rd at 10/3 + 22*20/3 = 450/3 = 150s
after 150 s, plant would have travelled 150*5 = 750m
after 10m he is at A, after 30 m he is at A so they would meet at A itself for the 23rd time

0 metresWhen Plant travels 50m then Page travels 20m each time they meet on the way. When plant has covered 50m they would have met for the 5th time. Similarly when plant covers 100mtrs...page covers 40mtrs. hence after covering 100mtrs they have met for 9 times.Hence after 200mtrs...they hav met for 18 timesTherefore their 23rd meeting = (18+5) will be at A
after covering 100m , won't they have met 10 times?

No, not 10 times! but 9 times 😃 Check for yourself :)

Vinay deposit 8000 in a bank which pays him 12% interest per annum compounded quarterly. What is the amount that he receives after 15 months?A = 8000(1 + (12/3*100))^5?? is it right?
@vbhvgupta said:A makes a FD of Rs 20000 with the bank for a period of 3 years. If the rate of interest be 13%SI per annum charged half yearly, what will he get after 42 months.
1) interest per quarter = 3%, total 5 quarters...
so 8000( 1 + 3/100)^5

2) in SI doesn matter, annunaly or semi-annualy as we can take time in decimal
so ans is 20000 + 20000*3.5*13/100

yar for 1st rate will be 12/3 or 12/4? because in time we have taken 15/3 = 5
@vbhvgupta said:
explain kar do
A = p ( 1 + 12 / 4 * 100 ) ^ 5

For second question... Its simple interest, so doesn't matter whether the interest is charged annually or half yearly.. the amount will remain the same... Do it using standard formula u will get the answer.

here, the interest is compounded quarterly, so n = 4, so in time it will be n * t = 4 * 5/4 = 5

How u calculated 1st becoz calculation is bit complex.

dint get you bro
for the 1st time dey'l meet at 20/7 m from A .... how 10/3?

rate is 12% for 12 months, so 3% for 3 months, 3% per quarter.....we have divided by 4, because there are 4 quarters in a year... and we need to find no. of quarters..
for 15/3, each quarter has 3 months so 15 months means 5 quarters..

If compound interest is compounded n times in a year, then after t years the amount wll be

A = P ( 1 + r / 100n ) ^ n * t

Put values, we will get

A = 8000 ( 1 + 12 / 4 * 100 ) ^ 4 * 5/4

A= 9274.19

they' ll meet after 10/(5 + 2) = 10/7 seconds.
