Official Quant thread for CAT 2013

@krum thanks .... some i did some calcn. mistake ....
A container filled with milk holds 20 litres. 4 litres of milk is removed and replaced with 8 lit of water. Then 8 litres of the solution is replaced with 2 lit of water. Then 6 litres removed and replaced with 10 lit of water. Find the ratio of milk to water....????

Let the roots of x3 + 3x2 + 4x €“ 11 = 0 be a, b, c and the roots of x3 + rx2 + sx + t = 0 are a + b, b + c, c + a the find the value of t?
a+b+c=-3
ab+bc+ca=4
abc=11

a+b+b+c+c+a=-r
a+b+c=-r/2

(a+b)*(b+c)+(a+b)*(a+c)+(b+c)*(a+c)=s
a^2+b^2+c^2+3(ab+bc+ca)=s
(a+b+c)^2+(ab+bc+ca)=s
9+4=s
13=s

(a+b)*(b+c)*(a+c)=-t
(a+b+c)*(ab+bc+ca)-abc=-t
-3*4=-t
t=12

@gnehagarg galat hai bhai 23 hai answere
A circular swimming pool is surrounded by a concrete wall 4 ft. wide. If the area of the concrete
wall surrounding the pool is 11/25
that of the pool, then the radius of the pool is
a) 8 ft. b) 16 ft. c) 20 ft. d) 30 ft.
@Cat.Aspirant123 bhai dhang se likh queston is it 25:11

any formula ?? i don't have the ans ...... please tell me how did u do
concentration of milk=V(1-N1/V)(1-N2/V)(1-N3/V)
where V is the total volume....and N1,N2,N3 r the quantities replaced......
when u get d conc of milk then for water ......sub milk conc frm total volume
Special case (not related to dis ques)......when N1=N2=N3=N
then conc (milk)=V(1-N/V)^3

after 1st - M=16, W=8
after 2nd - M=16-8*16/24=10.66, W=8-8*8/24+2=7.33
after 3rd - M=10.66-6*10.66/17.99=7.1, W=7.33-6*7.33/17.99+10=14.885

7.1 : 14.885

its 11/25 itself..dhang se hi likha hai

20 hai kya?
@SNAPstER 16:8 ho gaya
2:1 ki ratio mein niklega toh
16-4-1-.666=11.3333
water h gaya 8-2-.33=5.666
11.333:5.66+2=11.33:7.66
11.33-3.5=7.83
7.66-2.5=5.16
now 7.83:15.16

pi(r+4)^2-pir^2=11/25*pir^2
=>
(r+4)^2=36/25*r^2
=>r=20

ok an easy ques ....... don't know the OA ....with no options either ....A container filled with milk holds 20 litres. 4 litres of milk is removed and replaced with water. Then 8 litres of the solution is replaced with water. Then 16 litres removed and replaced with water. Find the ratio of milk to water....
20(20-4)/20*(20-8)/20*(20-16)/20
Milk 48/25
Water 452/25

Milk:Water=12/113

@Cat.Aspirant123 bhai galti ho gayi dekhne mein pahle laga ki kuch aur likha hai chor use

waise 20 ayega @krum bhai wala hi tarikka hai
@Cat.Aspirant123 said:
approach..?
yaar meine to option se kiya hai..
let radius of pool be r1 and that of wall be r2
pie(r2)^2-pie(r1)^2=11/25*pie(r1)^2.......(i)
r2-r1=4
from options r1=20 ...so r2=24
r1 and r2 satisfies eqn (i)...therefore r1=20
@mailtoankit hona hi yahi hai jab equation aa jayegi solve kake
11r^2-200r-400=0
sidha option put kiya
11*20^2-200*20-400=4400-4000-400=0
satisfy kar dega yeh option
