Yes....not too difficult to do so in fact! Consider this:When an article is sold for 703 loss incured is 25% less than the profit earned on selling it at rs 836. What is the SP of the article when it earns a profit of 20%.Loss in 1st case is 25% less i.e. 3/4 of profit in 2nd case. Think of them as 3x and 4x.Difference is 836 - 702 = 133. Make it into 7 parts = 19 each, so 3 parts is 57 (the loss) and 4 parts is 76 (the profit). So CP is 703 + 57 = 760 and hence final SP is 760 + 76*2 =912.regardsscrabbler
i have heard/studied about lateral thinking from several sources....aaj dekhne ko bhi mil gai...matlab kamaal...

A balance of a trader weighs 10% leass that it shd be. Still the trader mark up his goods to get an overall profit of 20%. what is the markup on the cost price?

The mark up is 8%

Now try the above problem that i posted.

2) max = 28 and min = 0
3) max = 25 and min = 0
4) max = 17 and min = 0
5) max = 12 and min = 0

the farthest point from the circle is that point where the tangent touches it... (by this method we get both, the max and the min value)
(x-3)^2 + (y+2)^2 = 3^2 is our equation of the circle with center at (3,-2) and radius = 3
using distance from center = radius
|{3*3 + 4*(-2) - k}|/rt(3^2+4^2) = 3
+/- (1-k) = 15
14 =hence max is 16....

or

by cauchy inequality..
we have (x-3)^2 + (y+2)^2 = 9
{(x-3)^2 + (y+2)^2}(3^2+4^2) >= (3(x-3) + 4(y+2))^2
25(x^2+y^2-(6x-4y-4)+9) >= (3x+4y-17)^2
25(x^2+y^2-(x^2+y^2)+9) >= (3x+4y-1)^2
25*9 >= (3x+4y-1)^2
3x+4y-1 =3x+4y =

8% ?
let actual cp = 100
x - 90/90 = 20/100
x = 108
so mark up = 108 - 100/100 = 8%

8 % more markup hoga...
Options nai hain kya??

16 aayega..
I guess @Logrhythm bhai had solved something like this previously....:)

apply successive % ka funda

10% loss then 20% profit = 20-10-(200/100) = 8%
@vbhvgupta said:
OA 8%
CP= a
for 10% less weight =.9a
sp-.9a/.9a = 1/5
sp = 1.08a
hence 8% above CP..

x^2 + y^2 = 6x - 4y - 4 can be re-arranged as (x-3)^2 + (y+2)^2 = 3^2
That is, a circle with centre (3,-2) and radius = 3

3x + 4y--> Maximise
Let 3x + 4y = c be a line
Now to maximise 3x+4y maximise "c"

It is possible only when the line is tangent to the circle
So , (3(3) + 4(-2) - c)/5 = 3
=> c= 16
Hence, none of these?

Ye kaise kiya??
I guess the shopkeeper is giving out 10% less than the original weight...to uska loss nai profit ho raha hai,...M I missing something??
Please explain ..

@iLoveTorres bhai srry...meine misread kara question ko...mujhe laga pehle 10% loss fir 20% profit ke baad overall profit pooch raha hai...my bad...srry...
