Yes 60 is thre in the option!!!But my question is y nt -10%!!!P = 100 = 75E = 100 = 120100X100 = 10000100X120 = 9000Therefore, 1000/10000x100 = 10%!!!
:O
Price = 100 and 75.
Expenditure = 1000 and 1200.

Quantity = Expen / Price.
Q initially = 1000/100 = 10.
Q New = 1200/75 = 48/3 = 16.

So, 10 to 16 => 6/10 = 60 %.

In a class, 25% of the students were absent for an exam. 30% failed by 20 marks and 10% just passed because of grace marks of 5. Find the average score of the class if the remaining students scored an average of 60 marks and the pass marks are 33 (counting the final scores of the candidates)???

100 Strength.
30 got 13 marks.
10 got 33 marks.
Remaining = 100 - 25 - 30 - 10 = 100 - 65 = 35.

Average = 35*60 + 10*33 + 30*13 = 2100 + 330 + 390 = 2820.
Average will be 28.20 as per the given data!

I guess that 30% and 10% is given excluding those 25% students. :banghead:
@ScareCrow28 Ho sakta hai na ? :roll:

Either the question is missing something OR the options are incorrect! OR I am a schizophrenic and I don't know yet!

Schizophrenic suits me! :P

Umm I meant woh 25 % will not be counted in the average of the class.
So, 2820/75 = 37.60

@jashholmes - Check this now. 37.60 it is right ??

Bekar question! for deciphering it! That question needed a bit of estallarism!

Even I took100 strength in the initial stage of that was a slightly difficult!!!
Rather, what I did was I took 200 as the total strength of the class €Ś So it would be divided into 50 and 150!!!
30% of 50 comes out to be 45 which have got 13 marks 10% comes out to be 15 which have got 28 marks(33 €“ 5).
And the rest as 60 marks.
In this way I had got 28. something as the answer!!!

Check above now.

Strength will be 100 only. Everything was fine. Just the average of the class will be calculated on 75 students as 25 were absent and so are not in the Class! 😛 :P

But in the question nothing is mentioned about the total number of students or the number of students who had appeared for the exams to be calculated as part of the average. Now if this question was asked in CMAT than most of us would have gotten the answer of 28.
All 3 of us got the same answer!!!

Yeah. A little error in question's language!
Though on second thoughts, one can get 37.6

Anyways, leave it now. Move to the next one! :)
Shyam spends 20% of his monthly income of this household expenditure, 15% of the rest of books, 30% of the rest on clothes and says the rest. On counting, he comes to know that he has finally saved Rs9520. Find his monthly income???
What is the shortcut of solving this type of questions???
If the price of rice increases by 45%, how much should one reduce the consumption in order to keep expenditure constant???
What is the logic of solving this question???
What are the shortcut methods for solving this question???

45/145 *100 = 31.03

use concept of constant product rule

E = C*P
Hence, C1 * P1 = C2 * P2
=> C2 = 1/1.45 * C1 = 0.69C1
Hence, He should reduce to 69% of original Consumption

0.8 * 0.85 * 0.70 X = 9520
X = 20000

.8x *.85 *.70 = 9520
x = 20000 ?

either equate the saving to 9520
or subtract the expenditure and then equate to 9520.

X- .20X-.12x-.204x=9520
x=20000
