Hello Pguys,

Can anyone give me a rough idea about the highest %ile secured by an OBC candidate and the %ile of the last obc candidate called 4 L and K interview??

MANJEET SINGH

OA-97.05%ile

B.Sc.(H) Chemistry from Hindu college in 2014

Two middle aged professors

P1: You got good marks in class XII. Why didn't you go for engineering? Why B.Sc?

Me: Sir, I took coaching classes at narayana during class XII and during my time over there I realized that the level of studies was above my competence. I did give my engineering examinations and secured a seat at NSIT delhi but decided to opt out of it and joined Hindu College instead. I was not clear about my future at that time and wanted the time during graduation to explore myself. I was a member of my college quizzing team and a member of Japan Foundation where I attended film festivals.

P2: why are u choosing iim ahmedabad?

Me: Sir, iim Ahmadabad offers an elective course contemporary film industry which will benefit me and I also want to learn different aspects of finance, marketing, brand management, digital marketing, etc.

P1: this is a small elective course offered among the myriad of courses.

Me; I agree sir but I would like to point out that it tis the most sought after elective course in iim Ahmadabad with over 150 registrations.

P!; MICA would also offer you the same course but lets leave it at that.

P2; What do you want to do after completing your mba?

Me: sir I would like to work in a production, distribution or an exhibition firm.

P1: can you name any distribution firm?

Me; eros international, yash raj films, utv productions

P2:  Do you think that management professionals are required in entertainment industry?

Me: yes sir, I was recently reading an article by Mr. Bijli who is the owner of pvr cinema chains and he said that the industry is valued at $1.6 billion and is growing at a steady rate of 9-10%. Industry experts like Mr. Mahesh Bhatt of film and television producers guild of India were keeping a keen eye on the national budget also.

I myself screened the budget for entertainment sector provisions.

P2: (laughed a bit) ok what was given to the entertainment industry?

Me: Sir, entertainment tax is a big hurdle for the entertainment industry where it bears double taxation. It varies from 45% to 110% in various states of India. We are still following the rules set by the British raj where taxation was up to 150% as they used to be scared of large public gathering would cause mutiny. No tax change has been done in the budget and the industry hopes that uniform taxation would be issued.

Also, import duty on high density polythene was also reduced from 7.5% to 0.

P1: I love the way you are leading the conversation to your areas. How will high density polythene affect the industry?

Me; sir, high density polythene is used for the manufacturing of optical cables and at reduced costs the DTH services and pay cable services will improve and reach a wider audience. 100% FDI in this sector will also help the cause.

P1: lets talk a little about the current affairs, what are your vies on the Nirbhaya documentary released yesterday? Should it be banned?

Me:  Sir, in my opinion it should not be banned because in a democratic society everyone has a right to voice his or her opinions.

P2: if you were the father of the victim what would your views be then?

Me: sir if I was the father of the victim then I would have  supported for the ban of this documentary because it is hard to live through the trauma again.

 P1 and P2 nodded.

P2: pahlaj nihalani seems to be in the news for all the wrong reasons nowadays.

Me: (laughed a bit) yes sir, I did go through the 25 word ban list issued by the film censor board where words like Bombay and many abusive words have been banned.

P1: what are your views now regarding the freedom of expression?

Me; sir banning is not the right step towards sensitization; we should instead reform our credit ratings.

P2: did you see Haider? What are your vies on it?
Me: Sir, a lot of people of our country were opposed to the movies because of the depiction of our military in the wrong light. But it is a purely fictional story based on the work of Shakespeare.

P1: which work of Shakespeare?

Me; hamlet , sir

P1: don't you think that movies like haider shoud be banned?

Me; sir as iv said before, instead of banning the media, it would be more favorable to introduce a new credit rating because I think that the current society of india is not mature enuough to be openly subjected to such issues. Haider might be graphically violet for many people.

P2: but these A rated certificated don't work in our society, 10 year old kid can enter a cinema.

Me: sir, I can tell you from personal experience , two weeks back I went to see badlapur which is an A rated movie where entry was being denied to below 18 year olds.

P1: So are you in touch with recent advancements in chemistry?

Me: sir I just know the Nobel prize of this year as far as current issues are concerned.

P2: who was given the Nobel Prize and why?

Me: sir it was given to group of scientists, William mourner,Stephen hell and eric setzig for their research in fluorescent microscopy.

P1: why was this research important?

Me: sir, as far as the field of biochemistry is concerned we have not been able to figure out everything, various cellular processes and enzyme interactions are studied with the application of the correct stain used to highlight that part of the cell. Fluorescence microscopy would be beneficial to various research being conduct to cure lethal diseases.

P1: did you take any coaching classes for mba prep?

Me: yes sir, career launcher at satya niketan Delhi.

P2: what other hobbies do you have?

Me: I love to watch American tv shows and occasionally read a few English novels.

P1: recent novel that you read?

Me: to kill a mocking bird and lord of the flies

P2: I knew you would say to kill a mocking bird. It's the nth time we are hearing this reply.

P1:  lord of the flies was the one with kids stranded on an island after a plane crash?

Me; yes sir.

P2: what are your views on it? Indian censor board would not agree to such a novel in current times.

Me: sir the novel was initially banned in Europe and later attained cult status, the writer William Golding has also been awarded the Nobel Prize for literature. In the novel he has used kids to depict that if the laws and regulations made by society are removed then it all boils down to the basic survival animal instinct.

P2: your interview is over. Here take a candy and congratulate career launcher on my behalf.

I exited with a smile on my face.

lady welcomed me in.

O -  so u are from madurai (saw it from my SOP) what is famous in madurai??

me: madurai is temple city. the most famous thing is Meenakshi amman temple. apart from which lot of temples are situated in and around it. it is also famous for Jigarthanda and kari dosai (food items) then also jasmine.

L: what is Kari dosai? is it masal dosa?

me: i told her its not and told the preparation. i also told her its famous in amma mess.

O: u mean the Jayalaitha mess??

me : no sir its a diff one.

O: u are in a gud company why MBA?

me : well prepared and well rehearsed answer. i dragged them into this yrs financial budget with that.

O: so what is the changes that are going to affect ur company in this budget.

me: again well prepared. told them that certain chances regarding some  financial tweaks i was not able to understand that is one reason i wanted to do mba for holistic approach. old guy seemed satisfied.

HR: what do u want to change in the current indian scenario?

Me: education. spoke about the quality of education and its impact. had some data from ASER spoke about them.

O: lets say u get MBA here where would u want to work after that.

Me: i have mentioned in my SOP that i am fascinated about factories. so supporting that i told i would like work in ops field in some ndustry. being a chemical engineer that would suit me technically also after MBA i would have a different approach towards their propoganda.

O: so u will work for coromandel again?

me: if offered yes sir. i love my company and my job. but my approach will be different after the mba as i would have gained some depth knowledge

HR: I recently studied that fertilizer will degrade the soil. is it true??

Me: yes sir it will if over used. the soil has to be tested before application for the right amount and kind. the farmers should be educated.

HR: do u think the government is looking into this?

me: yes sir the government has handed this to the corporates. aand my company is very much particular about this. we have started soil testing centers in Andhra and karnataka in 250 villages educating the farmers and doing free service of soil testing and suggesting the type of fertilizer to be used.

O: if u are given a role in sales and marketing will u take it? (didnt knw where this ques came frm)

Me: i am not really aware of the contents and requirement insales and marketing once after completing the mba if my mind slides towards it i will be happy to take it. i told i am more of an ops guy blah blah blah.

O: Did u ask any of ur seniors before u started ur MBA Prep.

Me: Yes: then told him how i was motivated with IIMB and NITIE. they didnt knw abt nitie though. i clearly told them that i wanted to convert this one.

O: why not MS?

Me: tld its research oriented and i am not a research guy. told my time to decide on MS or MBA and now i prefer MBA due to the reasons i already mentioned.

HR: What is passion (WTF is this)

Me: told motivated dream. gave some real life example and blah blah blah.

L: Does make in india or anyother modi reform gud to ur industry.

me: no mam oly the removal of subsidies will be a boon. explained on subsidies. all his motives are to bring in cash flow in industrial sectorand service sector. but so far no use to fertilizer. except for customs on sulphuric acid. the freight charges increased, service tax increased excise duty increased. hence not gud for fertilizer industry.

And thats it. full of experience and stuff about my country the was able to answer all ques. gud one i think. lets See
