do i stand a chance to get a call from the new iim's?

Hi puys.

18th Feb, New Delhi, Rajender Place, Jaypee Siddharth.

Reporting Time- 8:30

We had to sign attendance sheet and wait in an open floor area. Tea, Coffee or Water.

X- 85.60, XII- 80.00, Grad(fashion tech)- one backlog in 2nd semester electrical technology, Work Ex - 12 Months in Textile Export Marketing

At 8:50, we were called by our panel number and asked to form a line. There were 5-6 IIM dreamers per panel. The first candidate of panel 1 was then asked to march straight and others were instructed to follow him in a line. We reached the front of the door which indicated our panel and stopped. Our names were called again to check our presence. Then we were asked to keep our bags outside, take out only data sheet with us and switch off our mobiles and put them in our bags. The man told us in very rude way that our mobiles needed to be switched off or there will be an issue. We 6 guys entered a room and walked left and then right to reach a 15x15 feet area where chairs and tables were arranged in U-shape. It was not a room and was parted with white and black cloth. We sat down in alternate chairs. We were then instructed to sign our data form and write the name of the place we came from (not your hometown). Then he put a sheet before us on the table upside down ans told us that we will get 20 minutes to write and not to touch the sheet unless instructed. In the mean while one more person in off-white t-shirt joined him. The WAT started at sharp 9:00am.

WAT topic- What are the problems faced by illiterate people? What steps should be taken by Indian government to decrease the illiteracy in adults?

Well, the best part about the topic was that we had to think like an illiterate person and imagine the problems faced due to lack of basic education. Overall I wrote a decent essay but ran out of time in the middle of last sentence.

Then we were instructed to leave. I was desperately waiting for documents verification but there was no sign. At 0950 hrs my name was called out and I followed the person. I was asked to sit down in the chair.

I was thinking that they will be verifying my documents but as soon as I sat down, the man in the t shirt asked me to introduce myself.

And that was the moment, I realized that it was the interview and those two stupid looking fellows were panelists. I guess one of'em was about 32-35 and the other in t shirt was 40-45.

The table between was merely two feet wide so it was a kind of awkward interview.

My panel had 2 male panelists and it was basically a good cop-bad cop type of setup. The one on the left was smiling and was basically like oh you poor child and the one on the right was grilling and he was saying things like: "Itna bhi nhi pta!""Yeh cheezein toh padhi hogi tumne. Dekho tumhari marksheet mein.!"

So, my interview started. Let's call Good cop as G and Bad cop as B. B was very rude as if he had a fight with his wife earlier that morning.

B: Introduce yourself.

Me: Sir, I am Sumit Ver....

G: Please be a bit louder.

Me: Yes. Sure Sir.

Me: I am Sumit Verma. I......

G: Give me your OBC certificate. You should have recent certificate.

Me: Yes Sir, I have, umm.... 28 August 2014. This is photocopy and here's the original.

G: Sir, ye theek h naa?

B: Haa. Theek h. Chal jayega.

Me (looking gain at B): My name is Sumit Verma. My hometown is Hisar and started my education........

G: Give me your mark sheets.

I picked up the folder which was merely 1 foot away from G.

I picked the folder and started opening it.

G: No... No..... Give it to me I will take it out myself.

Me: Okay sir

Me (looking at B): sir should I start from the beginning?

B nodded his head in yes, looking at data forms.

Me: Blah blah blah..................... as none of them was looking at me.

G: Do you have a brother?

Me: No sir.

G: You don't have a brother.

Me: No sir. I don't have any.

G: It's okay. I was just asking to confirm if you are not the same person I met. Continue.....

B: Tell me difference between first degree projection and third degree projection?

Me: Pardon me sir.

B: First degree projection and third degree projection?

Me: I don't have clue about any of them.

B: What is difference between plan and elevation?

Me: Do you mean Plane, sir?

B: No. Plan. PLAN.

Me: Sir, I am not sure I have studied these topics.

B: But you have studied it. EGD, Engineering Drawing. (Showing me my 1st semester mark sheet)

Me: Sir that was a long time back and not related to my.......... (Interrupts in between)

B then asked like 10 questions related to EGD, of which I have never even heard of and every time I replied "I don't know sir. I have never heard of this term. "

B: When did you pass this exam?

Me: Sir, In December 2009. It's been 6 years. And also they were not related to my course.

B: See here COMM and here it is not what this is?

Me: Excuse me sir. I don't get you. Can you please repeat?

B: Her in your 1st semester mark sheet it is written as COMM and in others it is mention as Fashion and...... Can you explain that?

Me: Sir I really am not getting you what you are asking me to explain. Can I take a look at my mark sheet you are indicating?

G handed me the mark sheets. On top of mark sheet COMM was mentioned somewhere in parenthesis. I had never seen it.

Me: Sir I don't know what it is.

B: So who knows.......... haan bata bhai.........?

B was furious. A plate full of cookies was kept in front of him. He took a cookie and put it in his big mouth.

B: Okay. How are you in Mathematics?

Me: Sir I was excellent in tenth and twelfth but then it's been 5 years since I have studied Maths but I am confident that I can do well as I also did good in Ca......................

B: What is variance?

Me: Sir, It is a mathematics tool which depicts the spread out of numbers in da.........

B: No. What is that?

Me: Sir, actually it is square of umm...... standard deviation.

B: Are you sure it is square?

Me: Yes Sir.

B: What is difference between mean and average?

Me: They are same sir.

B: What is Mod?

Me: Sir, You mean in Statistical context?

B: Yes.

Me: Sir, I think it is.....umm.....I am sorry but I can't exactly remember.

G: Just tell us what do you liked in you course so we can ask question related to that.

Me: Sir, I was really interested in High Tech Garments, Apparel production, Fabric structure.

G (looking at my mark sheets): Dekho. Yahan 1st semester mein..... It is like humanities and physics and others and then afterward the subjects are....ummmm...... related to fashion and all that.

Me: Sir, It's the curriculum by the university.

B: Dikhao mujhe.

Me: Sir, actually 1st year course in haryana is common for every branch. It is a three year course actually but they have extended it unnecessarily. After 1st year few seats are reserved for Diploma Students.

B: Accha sir, ye COMM ka matlab Common hoga.

G: haan haan....

G (to me): These mark sheets are from this university and you have mentioned other college name.

Me: Yes, our college was affiliated to the Maharishi dayanand university rohtak, so the mark sheets are from the university.

G: But your college name is not mentioned on the mark sheets anywhere.

Me: Yes sir. It must be some policy of the university not to mention the college name.

G: Have you asked them?

Me (smiling): No sir. I fear if i ask them they would take my original mark sheets and not give me back. They are not good people. (Smiling)

G: Ye ajeeb university h. So, how would I know that you are student of this college.

Me: Sir I have got final year certificate from the college.

G: Show me.

I took out my fyc and gave it to him.

G (looking at the certificate): This is......... What is this institute?

Me: The institute? The Techn.......

G: No. Where is it mentioned that this institute is under this mark sheet's university? They have not mentioned it anywhere. Do you see it?

Me: No Sir. I understand that you are correct but I had to spend a whole day to get this much of paper from my college.

G: But anybody can make this up. Right?

Me: No Sir. This is original; there is college stamp with director's signature. There is also a reference numbers here.

G: Yes don't worry. I know this is original. Kaisa college hai bhai!!! Aur kaisi university h!!!!

Wait, isn't it the same university in newspapers. Some controversy was going on in there. (Looking at B)  In gurgaon, some girl set herself on fire and died after few days.

Me: Yes Sir, Evaluation is faulty and biased in this university and that girl had failed in a subject and after failing again she attempted suicide and after the girl died the university increased her marks from 14 to 65.

Both laughing aloud.

Me: Sir, I have also failed for 5 times in a single subject, my only backlog. I completed my course in 2013 but I couldn't pass that subject. I will be attempting it for the 6th time again in May.

G: Yeah I have heard of these cases. Maharishi dayanand university is a very corrupted university. So, how can I know that these are original mark sheets?

Me (smiling): Sir, Believe me. I have never done anything like that.

G: Arey, Do not worry. I know. I know these are originals. But this is a BOGUS University.

B: You have got low marks in graduation. Why? Weren't you interested in it?

Me: No Sir.

B: Why?

Me: No Sir, I mean I was very much interested in the course but I lost my heart watching corruption in my college and university. And I think marks are not the right thing to measure the intelligence of the students of my college and this university. The grading and evaluation is biased in every corner.

G: Okay, so you were working in textile exports. Why did you left it?

Me: Sir I always wanted to pursue and MBA. So I thought it was the right time to switch my careers and gain business management skills which will also help in my growth in this sector.

G: How is the apparel industry growth in India?

Me: It is not much good sir and I think it's about 3-4% and is stagnate and also have fears to go down than this.

G: Do you think it will grow?

Me: No sir, Apparel industry is very labour intensive and as labour costs have been increasing at much higher rate in India, the industry is shifting more in the countries like Bangladesh where labour costs are very much less than India.

G: You were involved in exporting the textile products.

Me: Not directly sir. We were working as agents between our clients in different countries and suppliers from India.

G: So, you were freight forwarders?

Me: No sir. We were in contact with freight forwarders for shipments and documentations for exports.

G: Do you know what freight forwarders are?

Me: Yes sir. They help in transporting the goods from one country to other.

G: Do you know EPZ?

Me: No sir. I haven't heard of that term.

G: SEZ?

Me (sheepishly): That is Special Economic Zones.

G: I don't know. You tell me.

Me: Yes sir. I am sure that is special economic zones

G: What is that?

Me: These are specific zones government has set to encourage exports from the country, to encourage business. And these zones have special policies related to business. In a way these zones are set up to boost up the economy of the country.

G: What is the first thing comes to your mind about any fabric?

Me: Fiber type.

G: No. About fabric only.

Me: I would say the GSM of the fabric i.e. Gram per square meter.

G: How do you calculate that?

Me: Well, in industry the common method is by using round gsm cutter. You cut a round piece of fabric and weigh it and then multiply it by 100. Actually the round fabric is 1/100 square meters.

G: Okay.  Who manufacture the best fabric in India?

Me: You are talking about suiting fabrics?

G: Yes.

Me: Well. Raymond has their own manufacturing mills and they produce best of the suiting fabric.

G: What is BPO?

I was surprised where that came from.

Me: BPO are centers which provide services.........

G: NO. I want the full form of BPO.

Me: I know that O stands for outsourcing. Can I take a guess on B and P?

G: NO. All right. Generally what fabric is used for suits? And what is the cheapest quality one made of?

Me: Well. Generally woolen and its blends are used. And the cheapest one can be made of acrylics which is artificial wool.

G: Okay sumit. That will be all.

Me: Thank you sir.

I had a feeling that something was sticking to my leg under the table. I looked down and saw that B's shoe was striking to my calf. When I looked back at him, he quietly said sorry. Also, all the cookies had vanished. He was really peckish.

G: You got call from all new IIMs?

Me: Yes sir.

G: Okay. have a nice day.

Me: You too sir.

I got up and walked out.

Time: 10:24am.

Finally Relieved..........

hey

any rough idea about the final composite score out of 100 for a final convert for IIM Indore and IIM Indore (Mumbai) campus.

thanks in advance

😃

I saw in one of the groups (last year group)here, that for the 6new iims, the intake will be 1:2.8,for every 3 candidates called, one will be selected.

P.S: applies only for nc-obc category candidates called.

Hi Everyone

Female NC OBC

IIMk interview was not great. I have been shortlisted for great lakes PGPM. The fee can be refunded till april only. Do i stand a chance in new iim or should i take up great lakes.

Please reply .....

anyone who had attended new iims interview, did they collect documents and caste certificate?

93.37 percentile pe all India OBC me kitna rank hoga?

the post from last yr-

how many total seats are there for OBC candidates in new iims and how many were called for the same?

comments:

2592 OBC students have been called for 216 seats....i.e 27% of 800 seats.......& 27% of 9600 calls (in total) .........

same students have been called for old iims.

yes.....and they also have calls from other good institutions like XLRI, MDI, NITIE etc.....so there will be heavy overlap......

Probably the 1:12 ratio called initially will come down to 1:5 or 1:4 afer overlap I guess ...

SP Jain, IIT-B & IIT-D will also be in that list ..........

Moreover there will be some drop outs too to take next year to crack top IIMs, some would have joined already at other colleges etc...

including all these it may come to 1:4 finally ....

For 900 obc seats in all IIMs, 2592 have been called. It is already 1:2.9. If we add IIT's, FMS, NITIE, IIFT, XLRI, MDI, SP that ratio come down to 1:2. ATB to everyone.

ur calculation 1:2.9 is correct...but i am not sure about that 1:2......

NO...its not 2592 for 900 obc seats in all IIMs...its 2592 for oly 216 new IIMs...wrong calculation of 1:2.9....for 900 all IIMs th call will be 9000 range...

900 seats means considering all the 13 IIMs......surely the persons who have been called for old iims would be having calls from new IIMs as well.....so 2592 candidates have been called for interview by IIMs (all together) ......

for their 900 OBC Seats.........

For a X candidate, the status will be like this....

Old IIM(s) + new IIMs call

Or

New IIMs call

there wont be any person with call from Old IIM(s) and no call from new IIMs.....

thts ok I agree...bt im disagreeing with the count of oly 2592 for 900 all IIMs...it should be more than that....if its this ratio, then easily half of the people will get selected in new IIM s ??s tht true as per ur calculations ??

. thats the reality...accept it.

96.82 cut-off is for general, for nc-obc the cut-off is 81....and cut-off for IIM indore for Nc-OBC is 80+ with good acads.........the number of non-engineers shortlisted by iim rohtak this year is 181(for nc-obc) out of 2188 nc-obc candidates called by iim rohtak not even 10%.....even after considering them ...the total obc candidates called would not exceed 2700(2592 mentioned in previous comments)....so 900:2700 = 1:3 ~ 1:2.9....almost we are r8.......

So our logic is not wrong, this logic is not applicable to General candidates...... refer: www.iimrohtak.ac.in/cat-2013-list-of-candidate-for-wat-pi.html...

When should we expect the final result of IIM-A/B/C to come out?

what about L/K/I?

P.S.: IIM bangalore says the result would be published on 20 March

with a low percentile in (nc obc) 82.69 do i stand a chance for getting into new iims..seniors please help!

hi guys..can any one highlight about the median CAT score of 2014-2016 OBC students in 6IIMs??
