IIM Indore PI/WAT

12th 72.3%

Engineering: 62.5%

CAT 94.44 percentile. (NC-OBC)

Verification Process

We had to sign an attendance sheet on arrival. There were three people verifying the certificates. Names were being called out by them and the candidate had to go to that particular table only, no random first come first serve thing. The table number decided your panel. Like if the table 3 guy called out your name then your interview panel would be panel 3.

The verification guy checked in the following order:

Filled interview form.

CAT Admit Card.

CAT Scorecard.

Personal Identification Proof

10th Mark Sheet.

12th Mark Sheet.

Grad Mark Sheet.

Final year proforma if applicable.

Work-ex if any.

Category certificates if any.

Extra Curricular Certificates if any. (Best 5)

(Self attested photocopies were being collected simultaneously while checking of the originals)

WAT

It started at 8:35 a.m. 30 minutes, 300 words.

Topic: It was a lengthy topic. So let me summarize it: It asked out suggestions about the education reforms and the skill-set development that our PM has planned and how can our thoughts contribute towards its success.

After that there was a 5 minute tea break.

My name was first in the interview list and I was the first one to be interviewed from my location.

There were 3 different panels; I was allotted to panel 1.

Interview: Panel one

There were three panelists, all three middle aged men, late 40s/early 50s would be my guess.

As soon as I sat down, the first question came in " Tell me something you have done in your life which has changed it completely"

Answered with how I revived a dying club in college and took it to higher ranks at the university level; how these event management things drive me today also and I continue this at TCS.

HERE I TRIED TO DRIVE MY INTERVIEW, BY MENTIONING THAT THIS IS REASON I WANT TO MBA, AS I WANT TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR IN THIS FIELD.

Second Question: Then why you want to do MBA? You have good experience in Event Management and you can start right away.

Explained. Point wise. They looked satisfied.Third Question: Even the things you do at TCS will help you establish your company. Marketing and everything can happen. You know the strength of your company?
I answered along with the reason.
Fourth Question: Which Entrepreneur do you idolize? Did they need MBA?
Richard Branson was my answer. And regarding MBA I stated how IIM Indore has produced brilliant entrepreneurs and gave their names and of their start ups as well. They looked convinced.

Fifth Question: So you did B.E. . Do you know the difference between B.E and B.Tech? The difference between engineering and Technology?

Answered but not up to their satisfaction.

Sixth Question: What did you learn in Engineering? Your Favorite subject?

  • Answered.
  • Based on my answer they asked me good number of questions on the subject; half of which I was unaware and half I answered. Was also asked to prove an equation on paper; tried but failed.

Seventh Question: Tell me one more subject, which you love?

- MY WORST ANSWER COMES UP NOW: "No Sir, no other subject I loved!" (WTH I just said!!!)

Eight Question: Why no other subject? Did you not love engineering?

  • Explained how Engineering was the only option I had to go ahead with if I had to go for higher education. Small town guy with the town and society having zero awareness. It was the truth so they looked somewhat convinced.

Ninth Question: Now lets talk about Current affairs; What is happening in Bihar?

  • Explained.
  • Based on it what will be the scenarios- Explained.
  • Explain Presidents Rule and Governor's role: Could give a brief picture of it. But was too much grilled on this. Questions like What does the Indian constitution say regarding it were also asked ; and that too thrice! (Every time it was asked, my heart missed a beat). 😞

Tenth Question: So what are your hobbies?

  • Writing Hindi Poems; Dramatics, Street Plays; Watching Bollywood movies.
  • Based on that was asked my favorite poet? I quoted Mr Harivansh Rai Bacchan's name and then they asked me 5 poems of his. I started with Madhusala and they told me not that one. Agneepath , NO! Then one more, NO!
  • Okay tell me some other Poet? Javed Akhtar!P 3: you are Filmy guy! 😛
  • So you write plays? Tell me 5 play-writers?Who ever I quoted , they did not want that and wanted some one else. Basically I was being put under lots of stress. :/

My plus points: I smiled throughout and was not bogged down by stress! ++ My Communication Skills

And that's it! Some hits, some misses. Lasted for about 15-20 minutes. Cordial and warm. I might just sneak through or not, who knows!

My advice is to brush up on academics and GK. Know yourself well, Why MBA and your hobbies, in and out!

And stay calm, smile and just go in and have a nice chat.

Best of luck to everyone!!

I Have obc reservation from u.p but have done my 12th from Delhi.. Will I get reservation benefits in FMS Delhi?

Hey Guys!

I have seen lot of people asking questions on this thread about OBC certificate, eligibility, income criterion and especially the validity of certificate.

After answering quite a few queries below on this thread, and getting irritated of the people who ask same question instead of scrolling down and finding out the answers, I thought I'll write this down. Firstly I'm not an expert in this, but I have done some research about this after I faced few problems during my previous admissions.

1. First and the most common question I have seen on this thread is "I have a certificate dated 20xx, is it okay to submit that during my interviews? "

Ans: Nope, unless the certificate is of the current financial year, it's not okay to submit it. And Yeah! Financial year 2014-15 starts from March 2014 and is till March 2015. So, for the IIM interviews of the CAT-2014 season, you need to get a certificate dated after April 1st 2014. People preparing for CAT15 should apply for their certificate after March 2015.

2. Why is it like this? I have a certificate which is valid for 5 years?

Ans: Yeah! It is like this because OBC reservation is applicable only for Non-Creamy layer applicants, which is decided based on their annual income. So, you need to get it renewed every financial year. And also note that five year validity is for OBC certificate, not for the Non-Creamy Layer Certificate

3. My father is govt. employee and my NCL certificate is not based on salary. Should I get a new one every year? And why I should I get it renewed simply?

Ans: Yep! You need to get it renewed irrespective of the method of deciding NCL status. This is firstly because it will not be mentioned in your certificate how you qualified the NCL criteria. Secondly because if your parents get promoted before the age of 40, then you might lose the OBC cover. So it's necessary for everyone to get a new certificate every year.

4. My certificate format doesn't EXACTLY match with the one on the CAT website.

Ans: No problem, until unless all the wordings and the resolutions match with your certificate. And I'm pretty sure all the states issue the certificate in the same format, though the heading "for the admission to IIMs" might not be present. Thus this won't be a problem. But please note, if your certificate doesn't match the wordings and resolutions as given on the certificate on CAT website then, I doubt if it's a Valid Central Govt. Certificate.

5. Often people get confused with State OBC and Central OBC Certificate. Few queries are like I got certificate from my tahasildar, is it okay?

Ans: Guys, Please note State government OBC is completely different from Central govt. OBC certificate. And for Central govt. institutions it's compulsory that you submit Central govt. certificate. Please check NCBC website (www.ncbc.nic.in) for the central list of state-wise OBC (Few castes which come under Central OBC quota in few states, don't come under in few , so the central OBC list is state-wise. But note this doesn't mean state govt. and central govt. lists are same)

Coming to second part of the question, note that the State government issues both Central govt. OBC certificate and state govt. OBC certificate. But the eligibility criteria for both is completely different in many states. And about issuing authority, usually Tahasildar issues the certificates. But anyone equal to or above the rank of tahsildar can issue the certificate.

6. I have a certificate with a heading "For Central Govt. Jobs". Is it okay?

Ans: As per my previous experience, YES, it's okay! Content of the certificate is what that matter. Even if it's a rare case, they will allow you after an undertaking.

7. Should I submit income certificate?

Ans: Nope! You don't need to submit any other documents other than Non Creamy Layer Certificate.

8. My income is more than 6 lakhs. Am I not eligible?

Ans: OBC certificates are issued on the basis of your parent's income and NOT yours. And also income is not a criteria for all the cases. For govt. employee it is based on Class, not on salaried income.

9. My certificate doesn't has signature of competent authority but instead it has a barcode. Will it be accepted?

Ans: Yes! It will be accepted. This is esp. in case of certificate issued by states like Karnataka where the certificates are digitally signed. So, no need to worry, it will be accepted.

10. Now there are few people appearing for interviews this season with outdated certificate. What should they do?

Ans: Risky Business. But no need to panic if you have correct central govt. certificate. Usually you'll have to submit an undertaking during your interviews, if your certificate is outdated. But I'm not sure if every IIM will do the same. So those who have interviews late in March and April, please apply for new one.
And those who are preparing for CAT 2015, it's a kind request for you people to get a certificate BEFORE you register for CAT15, else you may simply get rejected during interviews and ruin chance of another eligible candidate. So applying for certificate in July/August 2015 will be a safe option.
