Can somebody tell for undertakings we have to give in 15 days like character certificate ,1st class etc.Is it 15 days after getting admission or 15 days from now
I had my GD/ PI on Mar 13 for oth PGDIM & PGDISEM. My group was the first one on that day, so finished with whole process by noon.
Kudos to IMPACT team for their cooperation & assistance. Great work done by them at every step.
GD: 12 people, 18 mins, 6 panelists.
Topic: "Life lived for others is worth living" :)
Discussion started off well but soon became a fish market. Few people were speaking just for the sake of doing so. Then things calmed down and everybody had a good chance. Guess the topic was not worth discussion of 18 mins so few irrelevant points also were discussed. Overall the things went off well & GD ended on a good note.
PI for PGDIM: I was with Panel 2. Again 6 panelists.
P1: Tell me about your job profile.
M: Started describing, cutoff in between.
P2: What Statistical tools do you use for that ?
M: Some gyaan...
P3: You already have M. Tech from IITD, why MBA now ?
M: explained, but the prof. was not ready to buy any reason.
P3: You mean that a course from IITD is not good enough ?
M: (Caught on negative) Tried explaining to him. P4 came to my rescue.
P4: What did you study in Constructon Finance (M Tech) ?
M: Some gyaan...
P4: Hiow do you calculate End Value ?
M: No Idea...
P4: How do you calculate the cost of an activity ?
M: Explained.
P6: How does your company operate as a leading partner in Gulf Countries ?
M: No idea abt that but explained convincingly abt various JV & COnsortium formations within India.
P4: Explain about your current project.
M: Explained.
P4: What is your reponsibility there ?
M: Some gyaan...
P2: What do you read ?
M: Told her. Then she asked abt the recent book which I read.
P2: Which newspaper you read n tell me few articles which you like in that ?
M: TOI ...some more gyaan...
P6: Your company recently sold few businesses...your take on that ?
M: Could explain him convincingly.
P6: Your company also organizes middle level management programs, are you aware ?
M: (Caught !! as I recently appeared for selection for that) told him frankly.
P2: We are done. You may leave.
The whole PI lasted for around 15 minutes. I was pretty satisfied with the way it proceeded.
Waited in Audi for 1.5 hours and then appeared for PGDISEM PI. It was with Panel 5.
P1: Tell me abt urself.
M: Told. But he wanted more. So started blah..blah..
P2: (The lady) Hope you remeber your engineering a bit.
M: (Praying for few easy ones) sure Madam.
P2: What are various steps in a water treatment plant ?
M: (She gave me a hint) n I started telling. But could not explain in detail.
P2: Ok, any idea about Green buildings.
M: Could explain convincingly.
P3: How would you reduce air pollution and emission in Mumbai ?
M: explained few techniques & solutions.
P1: Started asking about a building in Mumbai somehow related to Hafeez Contractor (considering I reside in Mumbai).
M: Told him that I had no idea about that case. P4 informed him that I have been working in HP.
P4: How does hydro power project affect GHG emission ?
M: Could explain convincingly.
P4: Ok accepted, then how much effect of one molecule of Methane would have on global warming ?
M: No idea on this !!! (P1 whispered that he would not be knowing this).
P2: Don't you think Civil engineering is the closest to environmental issues ?
M: Could discuss in detail.
P1: Ok Nitin, We are done.
Came out with some satisfaction. Hope I did well.
Many thanks to IMPACT team for their wonderful support.
Cheers,
Nitin

GD:
Topic: e-governance and the common man
the whole group was clueless about the topic and no one even came up to initiate the topic
but then a daring guy came up with some words which really proved that initiating a GD is a high risk high gain game....and man, that guy really lost it there!!!
I hardly remember what happened in the GD, but by the end of 18 mins, we were out of points to talk abt and had been beating around the bush for over 5 mins. The conclusion also had been drawn upon by the tme we were asked to conclude

Hi everyone! had my interview at NITIE on the 14th
and man, the arrangements were awesome! Especially the quiz and the funny movies - man,I want that 750GB toy π ( me,and a lot of other folks....
)
Anyway, was lucky enough to have my process scheduled pretty early - My group was among the second set to be called for verification,so I got done with that pretty quickly. Also had to get a character certificate undertaking π Anyway, after verification, we moved to the GD. My panel consisted of 6-7 male professors, who all looked pretty sombre - I was number 1 in the group, and picked out the topic - " Fluctuating Sensex - Where is the Indian Economy headed? ". Made a lot of good entires, but felt there was a lot we didn't delve upon. The GD was rather one dimensional, mainly moving around the influence of the subprime crisis and how increased domestic investment and investor maturity is essential to avoid being badly hit by problems around the world, and how the fundamentals of the economy remained strong. The moderators did ask a couple of those who'd kept quiet to speak :)
On to the PI then. Well, this one had 6 professors - felt like facing a CBI panel, this! the desk for sitting was sit a little further apart - they could see clearly even if I twitched my feet! Anyway, the discussion began,as ever, with my name...
(I'll generalize and use P for panelist π )
P: RVRK? What does that stand for..
Me: Ahem...blah,blah, blah :D
P: (smiles all around) Well. You are from Andhra Pradesh eh?
Me: Yes Sir - But have been all around the country - since my father is in the RBI :)
P: So, you work at HCL then. What about your work there made you decide to pursue a career in management?
Me: Sir, I have a minor managerial position at HCL, where I train a couple of juniors and give them knowhow on the tools that we have been using. I am generally recognized as being an effective communicator and technically skilled.
P: What sort of Knowledge transfer? and what sort of content management?
Me: Described work, told about some tools we are evaluating...
P: Hmm.If you are offered a seat, what field of management would you be interested in?
Me: I would most probably go for Systems Sir - since it is a core competency of mine - but I also have developed an interest in marketing
P:( perks up - apparently, a marketing prof π ) Ah. Any ads you liked, young man? seen the latest Fevicol ad? ( saw the one after getting back π - the one with the tree leaves hanging on π )
Me: No Sir - but there are other ads I like - UTI Bank Home Loans, for instance - and I remember the Fevicol ad featuring a politician.
P: UTI?
Me: No Sir - Axis Bank.
P: Okay, do you read any business magazines?
Me: Have only recently begun sir. Read about things like the subprime crisis
P: What is it about?
Me: (talked about it, accidentally said 'disinvest' instead of 'disburse'....corrected upon prompting π - pretty good here - although I bored them a bit ;))
P: What are 2 essentials for a good ad?
Me: (started talking about humour being essential, tried to cite examples - but was interrupted by another prof and asked to get back to the question π ) - Hmm - possibly Sir, it must inform the consumer of all terms and conditions involved - and it must highlight some distinguishing factor that spearates it from the rest :)
Ps: Right abhishek, you may go :)
- Also, some mention of my prize from IIM Indore :)
Dunno - a very okayish interview, in my opinion π
P: What will happen if I superimpose FM, AM and all other modulations
M:I have no idea what you are talking abt
P: a few more technical questions which I had no answer to....
hehehe... was the panelist a lean guy with a hair-do resembling a crow's nest?
If u superimpose an AM and an FM wave, the amplitudes will get added provided the waves are in 0 phase and are of the same frequency - which is unlikely because the Frequency of an FM wave is not constant, it's variable and generally has more than 2 components. So probably u shud ve asked for more details

By the way, what was ur answer to the superimposition question?
u can PM me if u want!@ All, by now u must all be done with ur calls - so sit back and relax. As koolbuddy has pointed out, the results can be expected next week!
All the interviews posted here look pretty decent and considering the usually high conversion rates at NITIE, all of u can afford to be fairly optimistic!
Regds.
Billy
NITIE has got an awesome campus...the people i met there were all great people to be friends with...hospitality was great...seniors were ready to go out of the way to help you out...even when you told dem that u had IIM calls...n other options they would not force NITIE down your throat but gave genuine suggestions based on facts n figures.
i might not join NITIE...coz saala shayad hoga hi nahi....but i'll always remember that 1 day i spent there.
ohh haan n not to miss andaz apna apna and khosla ka ghosla:)
btw now looking at your campus i realize y you dont have gd/pis in centers across india:) taaki log aaye n fir wahi ke ho jaayein:)
thanks a lot.

billybolimeeaaaw SaysAllow one day for the (b)hangover :)
LOL...:p
My take on the GD/PI process...
1. Held in the college itself, chance for the aspirants to live life@NITIE for a day. Gives them ample time to see the college for themselves. Seniors available readily for consultation. NITIE proved a point by showcasing their infrastructure. I am not comparing b-schools here, just their admission process when i say that if any of you gave the other exams, you may have noticed that for 2 pune colleges (top ones
) and one in Mumbai, the admission process wasn't held in-campus. One in a swanky hotel-like lobby, one in a dingy classroom and another in an adjoining college. My theory: Have it?? Flaunt it!!
2. I feel its much easier to..ahem..manage people when they are all assembled in one place. And please people, you really can't say you were bored in that Audi. I really loved the concept that the seniors really gauged the pulse of engineers by organizing quizzes and showing movies like Andaz Apna Apna which is the cornerstone of any engineering hostel resident movie buff. Apart from being an administrative success, what i admired the most about it was that the part about NITIE was 1 hour, and the rest of the day was pure fun. No 'selling-their-college' by repeatedly showing glimpses of their college.
My theory: These guys are so self-confident...and rightly so.
3. To all those who were pissed of because of the wait, guys please consider the fact that NITIE is probably the only institute which provided accommodation. Think of the nitie admin which waited all night, night-after-night waiting for the interviewees to show up, even at unearthly hours. Outstation candidates saved about 1000 bucks easily.
My theory: admission form ka paisa wasool π
My personal negative feeling is that my interview lasted roughly 5 min. Have pmed CatSaidPurrr and KoolBud(weiser). BBM's response really helped me calm down and enjoy the post MBA season peace.
EDIT: Got through !!!
Date: 13/03/08 Time: 08:00 ( L )
It was a tedious process, what was the point of calling ppl at 8:00 when the process started after 2:30 for many of us..There was some brain wash, showing about NITIE NITIE and NITIE.Applicant already knows most of the things210+ applicants present in the hall. After the morning presentation, and some breakfast, for which one has to shell out twice the money for whatever stuff you havethough movie and quiz sessions were relieversthough one hardly gets to watch any movieas verification, GD and interview sessions start. For me nothing happened till 2:00 was just sitting and listening.post lunch I had my verification done and won some chocolates in the quizzing session.
GD Topic: How does BPO industry affect avg. citizen?
Group members: 12 Panelists: 6
Sitting Arrangement: C shaped chair arrangement
Decent amount of discussion, came up with many points, were getting into fish market few times but avoided soonergood for the group primarily discussed economical aspects, but also brought in social aspects.. I came in 4-5 times, had to raise voice to be heard initially, eventually shutting others up and making my pointwere asked to summarize in last 2 mins, every one tried their bit panelist asked one of us to summarize again, who did not speak. During the GD
The interview: Panelists: 6 (2 had left for a tea break so 4 for me)
Old guy (OG), young guy (YG), Young observer (YO), Old Observer (OO)
Sitting arrangement: A table and chair 5-6 feet from the panelists
Me: Good afternoon sirs
OG: Good afternoon rajkul, take ur seat
Me: thank you sir
OG: Tell me something about yourself. (4th icebreaker in 7 interviews)
Me: spoke about birth place, family, accomplishments, sports etcall tht couldnt be accommodated in the form
OG: Tell me about your work profile
Me: blah blah
YG: ahmedbad? Surprised. Look
Me: I am in the mktg wing of SAIL, we have a unit at Ahmedabad
OG: How long have you been working with SAIL?
Me: two years sir
YG: have u been to any of your plants?
Me: yes all of them
YG: why MBA?
Me: experience, exposure, explore other sectors, dont want to be restricted to steel this being my first job.
OG: You are a s/w engg.ppl from different fields come to s/w, I had a civil engg working for a s/w co. b4 u
Me: thats the que I always have to face, but its the management profile at SAIL that attracted me, and moreover wasnt interested in s/w profile, sitting at one desk
OG: Why nitie?
Me: the faculty and operations being the core, heard from a friend who passed out 2 years back
YG: who?
Me: blah blah(YG was noddingguess he remembered her)
YG: so desk job or field job?
Me: (instantly) field job
OG: but MBA will land u up into a desk job, sitting with a laptop, replying to mailsetc..
Me: it depends on wht profile I choose, operations and marketing need decent amount of field job, though its immature for me to say anything as I havent explored the reqd. yet.
YG: so you have a sales profile
Me: no sir, its a logistics profile
YG: its more or less part of sales
Me: ok (shoot your que)
YG: tell me what is customer satisfaction?
Me: whtever customer expects, if he gets that he is satisfied, may it be quality, time, appearance etc.
YG: so I need a pen, so this wud suffice (showing me a pen he had)
Me: no sir, youll need something more to it
YG: (smiling..seemed happy) so there shud be customer satisfaction or customer delight
Me: customer delight (smiling)
YG: (smiling) so you have to preempt customer needs
Me: yes sir (smiling)
OG/YG turning to the observers if they had any que
OO: Are you married?
Me: no sir
YG: when do you plan to get married then?
Me: post MBA sir
YG: wont that be late?
Me: I am 25 sir, 2 more years is not much
YO: you ae born in 82 (looking into my form)
Me: yes sir
All 4 of them look at each other.
OG: nice talking to you rajkul, you may leave
Me: Thank you sirs

GDPI on 13th (ITM)
GD - BPO + foreign countries + help to Avg. Indian
We should have focussed on Economy contribution, Jobs, Cheaper alternative for foreign organizations, etc.
But discussion went on to sustainability and avg Indian drinking problems.
I happen to introduce the economy point, but we still contributed towards sustainability.
One person simply ensured that he spoke for around 5-7 mins in the 20 mins discussion.
Was jumping in after every point being raised, wrap the point in different context and present the same. Also was raising his pitch when others tried to contribute.
PI - the biggest shock of this season - just 1 min interview
1. Introduce Yourself - cut short after 20 seconds.
2. As per the data avavilable with us, you have all 6 calls. What is your preference list.
3. You may leave, Thank you.
Moi SHOCKED.....
Don't know what to expect from this.
Will be really happy to know the results before HOLI. If the result is in my favour, will be able to enjoi more.
2. As per the data avavilable with us, you have all 6 calls. What is your preference list.

Hey shrirock7,
What is ur %tile & sectional?
In my IMT Interview,
I was asked @ other calls and I told them @ B & SP. And they grilled me deadly on to joining SP & not IMT.
Here at NITIE,
After Thanking me at the end, when I was about to leave the room. One ma'am asked me.. :whatthat:"What all other calls I have" to save myself from the same grilling, I said "I have one from IMT."... ;-)Didn't mention B, SP, MDI.
Seniors and PUYs,
DO NITIE TRACK DATA OF CALLS OF ALL THE CANDIDATES??? or shrirock7's case was just a guess from his %tile score? Pls let me know.

even I was asked the same question to which I replied with honesty.
and after listening to my answer, one of the profs in the panel treid to convince me that one of my optins is a worthless institute for my kind of profile (read engineer wanting a marketing and finance profile) π ....
wonder what he wanted to convince me on....
But to answer his concern, I did comapre NITIE and the other college finally concluding on NITIE as the better option....and the prof seemed happy abt it !!!
