I am joining NITIE as of now. When will we know about the final fees breakup and can apply for loan? I will try to pay the initial DD by myself for now - which is tough!!! I don't want to loose this opportunity because of temporary monetary constraints. What other options do I have - can you please guide me.
havent u recieved ur call letter yet??? I believe it has the fee break up?(not 100 perc sure as mine is at home town).. and from wat i know, wit this letter, u can apply for loan.. Itz very difficult to get a loan sanctioned now as the last date is by 17th.. But as soon as the loan gets sanctioned, u will get bac the money u had to pay from bank!!! Looking at the fees of various colls, i believe NITIE is indeed the best college tat u can get wit the most nominal fees...!!!

Received the call letter - but it doesn't have the final fees break-up... so, cannot even start the process of loan application. I understand that I will have to arrange the initial payment myself somehow but would like to at least start the loan processing also now.
I found this in the process to know sth more abt NITIE.......
Convert Nitie into an IIM: Mahindra Smita Deshmukh Saturday, September 01, 2007 01:22 IST Noted industrialist Anand Mahindra and HDFC chairman Deepak Parekh have suggested the upgradation of Powai-based National Institute of Technical and Industrial Engineering (Nitie) to the status of an IIM. Following up their demand for an IIM for Mumbai, they felt conversion of Nitie would save both time and money and India's financial capital can boast of an IIM sooner than later. The duo - two of India's corporate honchos and leading members of the Citizens' Action Group - met the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh with their suggestion. "For long, the students of Nitie have been petitioning for the status of IIM, for which they also ran a signature campaign for the same," said Mahindra, incidentally an ex-director of Nitie. He told DNA that the institute has good infrastructure as well as funds. "Also, its proximity to the Indian Institute of Technology campus is also an advantage," added Mahindra. It is learnt that Singh has promised to look into the issue. The CAG wants the Centre to expedite the implementation on the report prepared by an expert committee of the finance ministry to turn Mumbai into an international finance centre. It wants Singh's intervention for a Constitutional amendment to ensure that the Parents Teachers Association get to vote for the teacher's constituency in the upper house of the state legislature -----------------------------------------------------------
@seniors(KOOLBUDDY, BILLY) - any news on whether NITIE will withdraw the first list of admission??? R the students who have recieved admission safe????any info????
Hey PUYS, Posting this for the 3rd time. Please respond if there is anyone around. Anybody from Kolkata who has received the call letter? I haven't, and my education loan processing is stuck because of this.
On 18th April, alongwith the waitlist update, do we expect the final list of the candidate who so ever has confirmed their admission by sending DD to NITIE?? It will take out the anxiety of DD accepted or not / reached or not in written.

My 4th attempt @ posting this message. Attempt 1 thru a frenz id. Attempt 2- server error. Attempt 3- deleted mysteriously
I got thru MDI (rather wl
Now I understand that you cannot compare b-schools @ PG but I think for the benefit of all those who are in the same boat as me (and I am sure there are many!) this analysis is necessary. Plus, I have a few queries which only seniors @ MDI and NITIE can answer. And, I guess it will help people make an informed choice.
I have noted the following points regarding the 2 institutes:
Average / Median salaries:
NITIE: 13+ MDI: 12+
One should be LEAST concerned about these figures.
Fees:
NITIE: 2.6 MDI: 7.93
(I can finance my MBA myself if I join NITIE J)
Summers (Now this is important):
NITIE had a pretty smooth summer placement process last year (over in 2-3 days). MDI, on the other hand, ran into some problems getting their 180 students placed. I personally know some guys (2 in number to be precise) who finally had to take the help of their parents in getting placed! The whole process did not get over even in a weeks time (correct me if I am wrong).
Moreover, at NITIE, you are required to do a 2-month and a 4-month internship (total 6 month internship). So you easily get back over a lac while doing your MBA.
As you all will agree, summer internships are important (not like the ones we did way back during our engineering days :D)
Market Perception:
Both Institutes have a strong brand name. MDI spends a lot of money in marketing which is not done by NITIE (as it is a Govt of India institute). NITIE is one of the 15 centres of excellence in the country along with 7 IITs, 6 IIMs and 1 IISc.
NITIE has also been acknowledged as the best institute in Asia-Pacific for Operations (No IIM can boast of such an accomplishment). But NITIE itself chose to be silent on this issue (God knows whats wrong with those sarkaari bums!)
Rankings- both instis in the top 10
I heard there has been some proposal of converting NITIE into an IIM.
Student Perception
MDI has a bigger name. Every year, many students leave NITIE for MDI and vice-versa.But in the past, students have left the following institutes for NITIE:
1.IIM I 2.IIM K 3.IIFT Delhi 4.SP Jain Mumbai They must have done a lot of research (like me :P) to leave these instis. Not too sure of MDI on this front.
Final Placements:
At MDI, 240 students of PGPM + 60 students of PGPHR + 20 to 40 students of PGPIM will sit for the final / lateral placements. Total of around 330+
At NITE, 180 (PGPIM ) + 30 (ITM) + 15 (SEM). Total = 220-230 Moreover, NITIE is known to keep a few seats vacant even if the second waitlist gets exhausted. They are under no obligation to fill their seats. Last year a total of 140 students were given admits.
The point is that I feel I have a better chance of getting a profile of my choice (when almost the same companies visit the 2 institutes for the same kind of profiles) at a place where the number of students is less.
Niche Courses
NITIE- Supply chains mgmt. Their fin placements are actually better than that of I & K. MDI Marketing
Campus
Both institutes can boast of having a very good campus. NITIEs campus is on a hill whereas MDI has one of the most impressive campuses I have ever seen. The only difference is (which shouldnt be a big problem) that at NITIE, one gets a shared room in the first year and a single room in the second ;-)
My take those who want to go into marketing, MDI is ur place. For finance guys, NITIE is the obvious choice.
For the others, the Returns are much higher at NITIE. But MDI has a bigger brand name.
@ Seniors, This analysis is done without any prejudices and biases. If you think this analysis is misleading or that I have not covered points in favour of MDI, please correct me then. And please dont be mad at me. Its regarding our future. So please help us make an informed choice.

A very very good comparison i would say..!!! THANKS A LOT It ll help many decide to choose over these 2 brilliant colleges:gunsmilie:

Nice market research report man... I think you know quite in and out of writing a report.
Ok, other points that I would like to add a)You have almost covered 95% of the things in the comparison done above. Now it's YOUR call and YOU have to take it. Don't expect seniors to guide you to choose one of these insti... b)Ultimately, I believe that the placement I'll get after two years will not depend on whether I have an MBA from MDI or NITIE, but will depend on ME and what I am c)You missed out foreign exchange program @ MDI which is not offered @ NITIE. But personally I believe it is more of a fun rather than learning. (and you have to spend another 3-4 lacs from your own pocket):w00t: d)Now this is the point that you missed out completely. NITIE takes only engineers where as @ MDI you can find at least 20% of non engineers. Now this is both good and bad.
BAD because you might not get an opportunity to see and analysis a problem from a non-engineering perspective. From a perspective of a CA, an architect, a doctor, a lawyer..etc
GOOD because if you wanna go for FINANCE then its better not to fight for placement in financial sector with a CA or a B.Com grad. You'll have better chance to get placed in financial sector@ NITIE where all of us will be at same level (same engineering background)
Note: I have tried to be as unbiased as possible while giving out my points. but personally I favor NITIE
A simply brilliant effort..!! Truly appreciate your work...
As a representative of NITIE, I won't be able to comment on MDI (No doubt, its a great college, and I have some really good friends studying over there)... but as for NITIE, some more points that one can surely look into are:
1. Extremely high Cut-offs, so u have to be always on ur toes as u r competing against the top brains... 2. Every one in the final admit is a first class degree holder in Engineering... Even CAT has a requirement of only 50% in graduation... 3. U have advantage Mumbai... The Commercial Hub of India... And mind your this is a real big advantage 4. Loads and loads of Weekend Projects, apart from those 6 months of Summer and Winter Internships... So lots of opportunities to learn directly from the industry..!!
All these have been put up earlier also... but just felt like adding it up...
