poik, First of all, congrats on the admit to the class of 2006 at the ISB. Welcome on board. OK, over to the issue vexing you at the moment: This is my recipe for a 700+ for you in 5 days: 1. go on leave immediately (if you have not already done that) 2. rush to the nearest store and get these 2 books: a. Kaplan 800 b. OG. 3. work thru. sections of the K-800 one at a time...this definitely is possible. I think no one section on this book should take more than 6 hours. The densest ones are those on CR, RC and SC in that order and the second half of DS. 4. you should be done with K-800 in 2 days flat. 5. rummage thru. the SC and CR sections - completely - on the OG and the last 50 each in PS and DS (caution: this is very dense): serve as per time constraints.
I think you have the stuff to do this. Assuming you do this, I guess you should safely sail thru. the target score.
Happy GMATing. vin.
PS: Take at least one PP on the afternoon before your test.!
Thanks Ving...wish i'd read your advice earlier man!!!!
Well this is what i did do....
1. Bought the Kaplan 2. Downloaded the PP 3. First took two tests on the kaplan..first one got me 670..and the second..one friday night..netted 600! 4. Psyched...didnt do any more. Saturday all day and sunday morning :Went in on the CR DS SC sections from the kaplan book, took all the tests (1 from the book and three-six per section from the Kap CD) 5. Sunday night..took a PP test. with essays and all. Gruelling procedure. but scored 740. 6. Extremely relieved. 7. Today - Monday evening 7th march: Dire straits concert followed by two three section tests..one from each may be? 8. Tuesday evening : will do my final PP test. Actually am debating what to do since this is is the eve of the exam. Do a PP test or a Kap test? (the kap scores low man!) or none at all? just section tests?
would appreciate your views on the last ...:-)
PS: Leave is an impossibility, since i joined last month and am on probation. ALready took leave for AIM and SCMHRD interviews. If i take any more, i might be sacked. !!! Thanks again mate!
Thanks amit for the frank response. Yah..it was me who had been offered an admission last year too...but then personal reasons didnt allow me to join. Do you know of anyone who might be in the same position as mine so that I can have a genuine discussion with the guy. In any case, it would be wonderful if you can send across the address for the yahoogroup of ISB. i will look out for it in any case as well. Thanks again...
Hey Wari..i am going to stick my neck out here and suggest some thing: Just do it.
Thinking about Numbers is good, but you have another thirty years of work to go. Try and rationalize the cost over the entire duration and you'll realize its not a bad investment, even if this education nets you an additional two lakhs in salary. (factor in your sal increases as well..obviously far more rapid with an MBA than without). Even if this analysis yields a break even, you are okay. That's an education and an attitude you have got for free.
Immediate cash concern: man..believe me i am stone broke. 😃 But you know something, its all in the gut. You gotta do what you gotta do. And really, you dont want to be in a situatn where you regret throwing the offer away.
From a cold analystical P.O.V, you are best off doin an MBA from ISB or better with three years of WE under your belt. - both from a learining and a placement P.O.V.
I am sure all this didn't help. had to throw in my 0.02 US$ in anyway.
5. Sunday night..took a PP test. with essays and all. Gruelling procedure. but scored 740.
right on track. Dont worry at all. Just try to repeat the performance. PP are the closest you can get to the actual thing. You will def score more than the minimum required. All the best.
Am visiting PG after a long while. Just wanted to let everyone know that I made it to ISB- Co 2006. Hoping to see the other admits at ISB for a rollercoaster ride of a year!
This is for a friend; has anyone taken a look at the PGPX IIMA application? Any ideas how to go about filling it, it requires a lot of figures and proofs. Someone with 4-5 years of work-ex may not have much of managerial experience. Does project lead position hold as much weight or is IIMA looking for experienced managers alone?
Would appreciate a response. Thanks and Regards kk_coolj

Should have seen this a bit earlier...OK, how was it poik? my guess is you've leaped thru. with a comfortable margin...crossed 750? (I had 750 and 770 on the PPs...so a 740 on the PP should definitely...).

GMAT: An unexpected 720!
Congrats Prameet. Welcome to the ISB club.
I am so happy for you....meet you at ISB. Your 720 is all the more incredible since you had the added pressure of a pass-or-fail situation unlike the vast majority who take the GMAT. I think the pressure would have shelved at least some 20-30 points off your true scoring potential.

Tough luck on Ashraf...hey..you out there, mate? ....650 is not an indication of a CAT 97%iler but like i told you, methinks you'll get in. Super background and marriage to thank!

Hi All, I received mail today from the Indian School of Business that I have been admitted to the PGP class of 2005-2006. Thanks a lot PG guys and gals for your very supportive and thoughtful statements and opinions about my interview experience.
My profile in brief: GMAT 780, Electronics Engineer(Cochin Univ.), 75% with 100/100 Math scores, 3 years IT Pro with Top MNC.
Anyone in the ISB boat, please post here with brief profiles... !
Regards, vin.
Hi Vingmat, Congrtas, I am planning to write my GMAT this time CAn u pls guide me I have done my BE in Comp Sc and for last 3.5 yrs I am working with the Top MNC in Bangalore. Pls let me know,
you goin for the Alum meet on the 13th? taj residency..3.00-6.00?
Seems that one is for the R2 admits alone...did not receive any invite mail for that from ISB. also, attended the R1 meet at the Taj some weeks back. That was very informative and we had a very good time too.
This is for all you guys organizing your funding throughh bank loans. You are probably getting all your docs together to send it to ISB, so that they can send it over to the respective banks.
I just figured you dont have to. All you have to do is pop over to the local branch of that bank in your locality, and presto - you have loan approval in four -five days flat.
This would work for people who are working on getting their loan sanctioned at breakneck speed, cos you are going to quit your current job only AFTER all logistics are figured out.
Since the bottleneck in most loan sanctions is incomplete paperwork, you are probably better off dealing with a local bank who understands the value of your property, and gives you less headaches with docs. Also, you can just hand over the reqd docs personally and make sure they are okay even before formally applying.
Also confirmed with ISB that they have no issues with another branch. They did try to sell me a wee bit on using their local branch, but didnt insist too much.
And yes, the terms are exactly the same. The terms offered for the ISB tie-up are not binding on the local branch in hyd.
Guess i am full of beans today. All this organizing is giving me a rush.
Well...this is the deal. After the euphoria of the admit dies down, one realises 15 lakhs is a massive amount to put down for a...degree. One could almost start a small business for a huge amount like this. A few other guys were also talking to me about it..and this is what set me thinking.
So this is a basic analysis i have arrived at, and you could take it and look at your own situation to arrive at your own figure. (Knowing you guys, this'll set off a chain of about 300 mail, and arrive at an extremely refined mode of analysis, but its the approach i'm talking about)
Its simple, so dont murder me!
Current Earning of ISB admit: (Let's say) 5 lakhs Expected Sal at the end of March 2006: 6 lakhs
Translated to a take home of around: Rs. 35K 13 lakhs loan EMI : Rs. 20K Rationalize your margin money -Rs. 2,00,000over a two year period: Rs. 10K
Your "Operating Break Even Salary": 60K.
Translating roughly to a 9-10 Lakh pay pack (Break even as defined as net earning unaffected by expenditure on Bschool)
So until your salary hits this figure (factoring in increments in your pre-MBA salary for successive years), you are running an "operating loss".
I am not going into get into further refinements like IT benefits cos the net impact on the figure wouldnt be too much.
Hi..All Well first of all congrats to all of you who have got into ISB .Three cheers to you guys.. Now that you have cracked GMAT,i guess you are in the best position to advice all of us who want to crack GMAT,i mean how much time does it take for the preparations, what all books does one need for the preparation.
Would really appreciate all possible info that i can get regarding GMAT as i m planning to appear for it in the near future.
Looking forward to all the info from u guys.
cheers Sameer
