Will recommendation from an ISB alumni or the CEO of my company add any value to my app?
How do I get myself added to the facebook group? Apologies. I might be missing a previous post on the same.
Puys. How does one confirm whether ISB has received the initial deposit from my end. I made the transfer on Thursday, should I be expecting a confirmation?
Hey! I got selected for ISB in round 1 but have been allotted the Mohali campus and a merit waiver. I wanted to know if the students of Mohali campus are treated at par with the students from Hyderabad. Also if it is indicated in the degree or the transcripts that you are from Mohali? I am in doubt as to whether I should go for ISB or apply next time since I have only 2.5 years of experience now. Any information will be very appreciated. Thanks!
Doest the admissions office work on
This might be useful for candidates with family background who are trying to get an admit in ISB.
I have a 5.5 year experience and handle operations in a manufacturing set up. The one thing I learnt was that your essay must definitely be more than the garden variety of I did so-so running around if your experience if over 4 years. They know you get more opportunities than people working for someone than a family run business, so more is expected from you. They also like to see you have taken an initiative (I wrote of setting up a manufacturing plant in my essay 1).
Now coming to the interview. I had a pretty stressful interview and thought I was dinged for sure. The interview was all over the place in terms of questions but he made it sound like he didn't believe me when I said I did some of the things I said I did. A brief of the type of questions they asked are below Two alums interviewed me. Older guy (OG) about 45 years old and younger guy (YG) about 28. YG didn't pose any difficult questions and asked the basics while OG gave me nightmares
OG: I feel you are thinking, its been 5 years since I started working, lets just go for an MBA for the change of scenery and relax
Me: I pointed out how being married where my wife will be staying back does not allow for some of these luxuries and relaxations.
OG: Give me the business plan you gave your boss for the new manufacturing set up.
Me: Gave him rough calculations and estimates. He quizzed me on how I claimed break-even I 6 months and recovering the investment in 2 years. Great poker face so didn't know if he agreed. YG was smiling throughout anyways so again great poker face.
OG: Give me a rough idea of work flow in the factory Me: I drew a sketch explaining how the work flows and why I designed it in those ways.
OG: I am not from your industry but looking at this sketch I can give you 3 great suggestions to improve work flow.
Me: Ofcourse you can sir. Your experience is much higher than mine so I would love your suggestions. But I believe, given the constraints, I did the best I could do in this.
After this the interview went spiralling downwards, or so I felt.
OG: I don't think you are a good fit for ISB.
Me: Why do you think that.
OG: You don't have what it takes to get the best out of an ISB education
Me: And why would you say that sir.
OG: I know it. I have more experience
Me: Taking that into account, how would you then help me in getting the best experience out of ISB.
OG: Imagine I was living in a cave for 30 years with no human contact ever. Can you describe to me how sugar taste?
Me: Gave him some adjectives on how sugar tastes and feels like.
OG: Ankit stop, I don't even know the meaning of the words you are describing to me, how will I possibly understand what sugar taste like. There is nothing you can tell me that can that will make me understand what sugar taste like. Similarly, there is nothing that I can tell you that will make you understand how to get the best out of ISB.
Me: "Didn't know how to react"
OG: Ankit I will make you an offer, leave your file here and tell you AdCom that you don't want it considered for this year. Work for two more years and then come back again. We will not even treat you as a reapplicant. I am giving you this offer since I don't think you have done enough.
Me: Sir, with your experience I am sure there is something that you can see and I cannot. But based on what I know and have achieved, I believe there is enough in my file to take me through. So I will see my way to the very end. If I succeed, great, but if I don't, then I will definitely ask for your opinion and then plan using your advice.
These are some of the tough questions he asked me, there were some more that I cant remember. What I can suggest is to appease their egos and acknowledge their experience but stick to what you think is correct. It's a 20-25-minute interview, if they can break you there, people can break you outside. And maybe that's what they want to see for family business candidates is whether you have done actual work to be knowledgeable and confident in your ability.Every transparent organization has a feed back mechanism. I thought i'd receive a reject mail which would enunciate where i lacked. Only if i know where i missed, will i be able to improve. But i came to know that ISB does not send any mails to "non-admitted candidates". I admit that i'm feeling snubbed. It's ironical that you write almost your life in 4 essays and the college writes just two words. Reeks of hubris. Expected more from ISB.

Hi.. I need some help. I need to know the payment schedule after payment of this admission fees. When do we have to pay the first instalment? Thanks in advance!
Hello...I have one query regarding the fees. someone informed me that it is 30 lakhs for this PGP batch. To all those who have been admitted in R1, please throw some light on the fee structure for class of 2017..
Iin ISB essay 2 we have to write about our interactions with people from a diverse background and what we learned from it? does diverse specifically mean about your international experience. I successfully worked on a critical software project for an Ivy league university where I lead a team of people with hearing disability, does my interaction with people who have hearing disability fall in this category of interaction with people from a different background? please suggest.
Hi Guys, I have got an admission in Sauders School of Business (University of British Columbia), Canada in addition to ISB. Any suggestions, which one to go for ?
Guys, is there an active Whatsapp or Telegram group of the folks joining the 2016-17 batch?
All R1 admits, I just learnt that most of the banks will be closed for holidays on Dec 24 and Dec 25. So it may be better to arrange funds and make payments before those dates. It is strange that ISB would set the acceptance deadline on Christmas day.
