ISB 2017 Aspirants

Okay Puys! As we can see, the last question was one side of the story! Here comes part two! Let's now look at the applicant split in terms of years of Work Ex. After this we shall be able to build all sorts of fancy pie-charts!

I had a general question about the interview. Does the panel/ISB expect candidates to carry along supporting documents in proof of, say, participation in various activities, awards, and other statements made in the Essays? Do we need to take them along during the interview? Or is there a separate process, if any?

When: Skype Interview 14 Nov

Panel: 2 gentlemen alumni

No straight forward questions on why MBA, why ISB, what are your strengths etc. Work experience and hobby related questions. In short, essay 1 and 2 were questioned, essay 3 and 4 remained untouched. Interviewers were mostly expressionless.

Overall experience is similar to what Suman Kakkar has mentioned in his post below.

Must thank @Llewellyn75 for all the guidance. Wait begins...

I have applied from Delhi and no interview call yet. Cannot understand this at all given that I have got calls from A,B and C. Can someone give me and idea of what is happening here.

I have 10+ years of work-ex in IT and semiconductors combined. GMAT is 730. Decent academics throughout. Extracurricular includes a blog, couple of NGOs, college fest organiser, academic certificates and scholarships from school and so on.

Congratulations to the people who have a call for an Interview...

As requested by @shreyakapur.17  @nathshaonli and @ankita1905  here are some tips for the Interview:

1. The interview at ISB is a test of what you know and not what you don't . This is the difference between other schools in India and ISB.

2. By design it is supposed to test your strengths and not grill your weaknesses.

3. It is not a stress interview unless you are stressed out or get intimidated. Yes they do try to get under your skin especially if you are from the IITs or from one of the special categories.

4. Most of the questions (90%) are based on what you have put in your profile. So read your application in detail ... Not just your essays but the entire app.

5. Remember the panel gets only about 10 to 15 mins to read your profile so your application and essay quality matters.

6. Panelist know that you are not looking at ISB for NETWORKING and KNOWLEDGE but Career Progression. Be candid it helps and save yourself the trouble to camouflage your aspirations.

7. Most evaluation at the interview is aimed at finding out if you can be PLACED post ISB. This is natural. Especially people with 7 plus years of work ex need to be very clear where they see themselves after ISB and how do they plan to get there even if the Placement Team from the School cannot help.

8. Your Plan B should inspire confidence and not stress them out. Usually your long term goal is of little interest to anyone but interviewers have a tendency to ask for it so that your plan A & B can be tested. Ideally Plan A & B should lead to the same long term Goal.

9. Every MBA worth the salt wants to be an Entrepreneur in the long run. So this is a given... How you plan to bide your time getting there is the interesting part that interviewers are interested in.

10. You may want to anticipate questions but do not forget to practice your answers at mock interviews.

11. Remember the key is crispness (not sharpness) of the response.

12. It is better to give a short answer and then be probed than give a long answer that makes panelist switch off.

13. Never argue at the interview... you cannot win.

14. Last but not the least ... 7 out of 10 times you may think you aced the interview but at ISB you can still be dinged on the basis of the rest of your profile.

15. Also remember unless you practice right and get your answers validated by a pro there is no sense practicing. By doing Mock Interviews with your friends you are getting nowhere.

Wish you all the best...

I live for a 'Like' from you and if you want more 'Follow'

Hi, I am working full time as a fellow with Teach For India right now. I have graduated in M.Sc Mathematics from BITS Pilani, Goa. I have applied under EEO 2015. My future goal is to enter the public policy sector. My essays are centered around that only. I still haven't received an Interview call for Delhi. Does ISB treat candidates with social work background any differently? Please advise @Llewellyn75 @ISBmantra.com

Total Work Experience (by March, 2016): 10 months

GMAT: 710

GPA: 5.31/10

Xth: 90.6%

XIIth: 87.2%

In one of my essays, I have mentioned the 'Healthcare and Pharma Conclave' at ISB. and although it is still mentioned in the ISB's website, I think it has been discontinued after 2010 (I could not find any articles around this conclave after 2010).

Can someone please confirm if this conclave is still an active event at ISB or not?

Did anybody get interview calls for Kolkata location?

For d people who are saying that it shows that they have been shortlisted but have not received d mail yet....WHAT EXACTLY SAYS THAT YOU HAVE BEEN SHORTLISTED? WHERE IS THE DAMN OPTION ?

Hi folks, Are Delhi interviews going to be conducted from 20th to 22nd Nov only?

Hey,

Any ideas as to how many Chartered Accountants applying to ISB this year?

Wats the date to apply for isb?

@Llewellyn75 @ISBmantra.com guys any idea on the conversion rate from interviews?

Have the calls for Mumbai been given already?

Three important tips when you go in for the interview:

1) Go through your essays carefully and prepare in advance the expected questions. Someone from family background maybe asked "Why invest in ISB MBA when you can put that money into family business" or someone with entrepreneurship as short-term goal "Why not start now, Why after ISB?". These expected questions vary from profile to profile. Nail them.

2) Know your goals well. Multiple questions have been asked to see candidate's clarity on "Why only consulting?" or "Do you think your short-term goal is feasible given your current profile"? . these are indirect ways of asking "Why this short-term goal?". We always suggest candidates to research well and give a logical goals ambition in the essays.

3) When asked for a weakness, do not turn your strengths 180 degree and try to fool around. "I work too hard sometimes" WILL NOT cut it. Instead focus on real-world skills that you have worked upon. Weakness question is to know how you take critical feedback and how how you improve.

All the best!

Does anyone have any estimate of how many EEOs are offered each year? @Llewellyn75
