I am planning to apply for deferred admission at ISB. What would be a good score for me in GMAT? The main reason I am asking this is because ISB is very selective while considering the deferred admission cases. Also how are my chances?

just out of curiosity, is placement report of isb inflated in any way? They dont follow iprs standard and the salaries seem to be way higher than what iim a shows in its report following iprs standards?Could anyone shed light on this?

has anyone who is reapplying got a feedback for last year?I submitted the request but have not got anything yet?

What are the kind of questions/fields in the evaluation form of the ISB application?

ISB 2015-2016 MBA Essay 3 and 4 Analysis:

Essay 3: What are your post ISB career plans and how will your past experiences and the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) contribute to taking you there? (300 words max)

This is a clear goals question with focus on how an MBA from ISB will help you achieve these goals. The idea behind such a question is to judge candidates from the perspective of clarity of goals and purpose of an MBA.

This is an extremely important question and hence it is important to have a clear and well-researched answer in place. Whether your goal is to continue in the same industry/function or to make a switch, there should be a clear identification of gaps between one's previous professional experiences and goals for the future and it should all be knit very logically with an MBA from ISB serving as a bridge.

A great essay is the one that manages to clearly link the three aspects - 1) career progression, 2) career goals, 3) why/why now MBA and why ISB.

. Career Progression: AdComs are seeking applicants with clear paths behind and before them. You may have worked for a few companies and held different roles, but it is important to clarify "why you made these moves" and "how each one added to your professional knowledge".

. Career Goals: It's good to be realistic about your goals and hence it would be great if you talk to alumni and do research on school website to align your goals with the positions offered at ISB. To discuss the development of your career you should emphasize briefly on how did your experiences shape your goal and how do they reveal the appropriateness of your goal. It should highlight on how you developed this goal, why it appeals to you and how an MBA from ISB will contribute to your goals.

If your goals are very different from what you currently do, devote space to explaining how you have prepared for the career change, why you are suited for this work, and how you have discovered that it is a fitting career for you.

Imp: Many candidates are given the feedback that they got rejected because their goals were very broad and generic. Hence, it is critical to explain your goals in detail getting into the depths of the industry scope, role, etc.

. Why ISB: Finally, this essay demands that you explain how ISB - better than any other business program or career move - will help you prepare for those goals. The purpose is to convey the message to the AdCom that you are making an informed decision in applying to ISB. The underlying theme of this essay should clearly convey that an MBA from ISB at this stage in your career is very important. Explain how specific learning from the ISB PGP will enable you to attain your goals - make a mention of specific courses, clubs etc at ISB. In case you have interacted with ISB alumni or attended ISB information sessions or scheduled an ISB visit - mention how your decision to apply to ISB has been influenced by these events.

Essay 4 (Optional): Please use this space to explain any career breaks / provide any other information not covered elsewhere in the application that could significantly impact your candidature at ISB. Note: It is not necessary to write this essay. Please use this space only if there is something really significant that you would like us to know. (200 words max)

Use this essay to highlight something significant not covered in the previous essays. Use this space to explain any gaps in your career or to share an extracurricular or professional experience that further demonstrates your exceptional qualifications and ability to contribute both to ISB and a recruiting company in the future. Instead of giving justifications for a low score in a particular academic year, use this space to highlight on your strengths.

Can we start our application for cycle2?

Hi all, hoping to get feedback on my profile for applying to ISB this year.

Chartered Accountant, Male, 24

GMAT: 710

Work-ex: 3 years (1.5 as investment analyst in $100 mn PE fund, thereafter as equity research analyst in a US-based startup).

Also did 4 years of full time internship as part of the CA course (pre-qualification, 2008-2012).

Had strong leadership experience in the internship as well as the PE job, but none in the current role as it involves working independently.

Academics: CA, B.Com. from IGNOU (62%), both in 2012

Extra-curriculars: Senior volunteer for Child Rights and You (CRY) for providing analytical services; wrote a reasonably popular finance blog (unnamed to preserve anonymity); mentor for current interns at the firm where I interned; currently working on starting a t-shirts business targeted at a very specific niche segment.

Post-MBA Goal: Private Equity

My concerns pertain to low CA and B.Com academic scores, and explaining the seemingly backward move from PE to equity research. I made the move because I was working far too much in PE and wanted to live life a little, but not sure if I can say that to adcoms. To be fair, all my extra-curriculars started only after changing my job, because that's when I could find some time for them.

Hoping to get some feedback on the strength of my application and my concerns. Thanks a lot!

HI All,

I am a Mechanical Engineer from NIT completing 12 years of experience in the industry. Looking for doing a one year MBA from Indian B School and ISB is top on my list. I have average academics (10th 85%, 12th 80%, Btech 64%). I have work experience in two different sectors (Manufacturing and Intellectual Property). I also ventured into retail business, which had to be closed for some reasons, but gave me very important lessons in life. Besides this, I am a Stock Market trader and have been a student of the market for 8 years now, learning and contributing through Forums and Blogs. I also operate a site related to stock market which I created primarily to keep track of my trades on the move, but later expanded it so that general public could access and use the features as they wished.

I am currently working in a niche area and want to do an MBA in Operations to improve my employability in the future. I am planning to give my GMAT in August and aiming for 700+.

Kindly provide me feedback on my profile.

Thanks!

Thank you @Llewellyn75 for replying to my previous post.

I have a few more questions for you...

Firstly I would like to find out if ISB will be reading my last year's essays and if so then how do I put across my changed point of view.

Also I have a 700 GMAT. Do I need to retake it?

Hi guys,

I am a bit confused regarding  LOR of ISB. I work for DRDO (central Govt). To select my recommending officer what will be the better strategy from the below mentioned.

1. Selecting two mid level managers who give a good letter of recommendation with all positives feed back.

OR

2. Selecting two top level managers who give a moderately good recommendation with moderate positive feedback.

I am in a bit of dilemma here. which type of letter ISB prefers when shortlisting . please help me out.

thanks in advance

Praveen Kumar V

Hi Guys,

I'm a re-applicant, got the interview call last year but got dinged eventually. Please find bellow a summary of my profile -

GMAT - 740

Class X - 85%

Class XII - 80%

BTech (Computer Science) - 75% from Jaypee Insitute of Information Technology, Noida

MBA - 82% from Jaypee Business School (PS - It was a 5 year dual degree course)

Job 1 - Marketing Manager, Indian six sigma training provider (7 months)

Job 2 - Senior Research Analyst, Technology & Communication, World's 2nd largest executive search firm (2 year 4 months)

Job 3 - Associate, Knowledge Management, Bain & Co (BIG 3 of Management Consultancy) (Feb, 2015 - present)

I have the following major questions regarding my candidature -

1) How much is a negative is the fact that I've already done an MBA before.

2) What are my chances of getting through at ISB? The only major change in my profile from last year is the addition of Job 3.

3)Since, I'm working for a management Consultancy firm now, I was planning on changing my post MBA short term goal to a Consulting role at a top tier firm, which is a slight deviation from my last year goal. Is that an issue?

4) I did not request ISB for feedback on my application last year, is it okay/possible to do it now or am I too late?

Hi,

I have over 3 and a half years of work experience now. I recently took the GMAT and got a 730. I have some ECAs in college but no awards to show. At my work place too I hardly have any out of work activities to show. In over three years I have only one promotion to show. I have spoken to a few ISB pass outs and they are not very encouraging. However, ISB has been my dream college since 2008 and I would like to know what can I do to ensure an Admit.

Regards,

Ravi
