ISB 2015-2016 MBA Essay 2 Analysis:

Essay 2: Describe a (only one) defining moment in your personal / professional life when you had to make a risky decision, and explain what you did, why and the outcome? (300 words max)

A risky decision is a decision with the possibility of failure or loss and no certainty of the outcome. This essay offers applicants an opportunity to demonstrate their risk taking ability. Also, what is important is to highlight on the thought process behind the risky decision - was it based on some research, gut, or some other analysis? An impactful essay will be the one wherein you can highlight on some successful outcome basis the risk taken.

OR
Describe a (only one) situation in your personal / professional life when you had to interact with people from diverse backgrounds. How did it affect you and what did you learn? (300 words max)

B-schools give a lot of consideration to any international work experience. Working with people from different backgrounds is an integral part of the B-school culture and hence showing an ability to work with a diverse team is important here. Hence, this essay is a great opportunity for those with international work experience to highlight on the cultural diversity they have experienced and the learning from the same.

All the best!

'Your Dream, Our Goal'

has anyone got back feedback for last year, i did submit the feedback request recently but have not heard back anything yet?

Hi Experts,

In need of some guidance here.

I applied to ISB last year but was dinged in the interview. I am planning to apply in R1 this year again.

Here is my profile:

10th - 76%

12th - 78%

Engineering (B.E.) - 72%

GMAT - 700 (2nd attempt) [Q47, V40]

Work Ex - Close to 6 yrs. Work as a SAP consultant.

Extra curriculars - Achievements in sports at school level, Music at Company level, Performance based awards - nothing much to boast about.

My questions are:

1)What relevance do my essays of last year have in my application this year? How much can | deviate from the esaays written last year, in terms of long-term and short-term goals etc.

2) Do I need to take GMAT again?

3) What areas should I highlight in the applications, given that my work-ex will be at the higher end of the spectrum.

4) What other schools can I look forward to? I want to come back and work in India as soon as possible after I finish my MBA. Also, I am looking only for  year courses.

5) And finally, will ISB be a feasible option in terms of ROI? (I earn 15+ lpa currently)

Thanks in advance

Blabber

Hey  @mba-help  ,

Here is my profile:

10th - 77%

12th - 71 %

Engineering (2008-2012) (B.E.) - 61 %

GMAT - scheduled- mid August

Work Ex - Close to 3 yrs. Worked in a Start Up for a year in Marketing and sales (where I've performed pretty well) and currently in Reliance (World's largest Manufacturing Division) as a Technologist at (Chemical Engg).

Extra curriculars - Achievements in karate at national level until 2010, Junior Diploma in Hindusthani classical Music, Masters in Bharat Natyam, Performance based award, and a bit of social work.

1. I need to know if I stand a good chance to satisfy ISB pre-qualifications.

2. Also, what more do I need to work on to make my application more appealing (until Oct)?

3. Is August mid right time to take GMAT (first attempt)?

4. Help with Mock Tests (if at all free ones available and also the best on line tests series).

Your guidance will be of great help!

Hi guys.. I'm new to the whole concept of GMAT and ISB.  Can somebody help me with a query ? I have a work ex of almost 4 yrs(3.11).  Can somebody let me know what would be the ideal work ex range ? Is it 4-6 ? Will 6+ be considered too much ? Thanks in advance !

Hi Every1,

At what point of time should one ideally start preparing for GMAT for admissions to ISB.

As my aim is to join ISB, when should i take my GMAT exam & apply for the admissions process??

I have very limited idea regarding this & hence, your valuable inputs will be highly appreciated!

Thanks in Advance.... 😃

I am aspiring to join ISB for PGP 2016-17. I have few concerns with regards to the impact of my past academic scores on my overall profile which would be considered for admission. Below are the details:

12th - 73.18 % (Maharashtra State Board)

BE Production - 65.81 % (University of Mumbai)

E-Cell CRCE - Mentor 2010-11

Students Placement Committee representative - 2010-11

Active Member of NSS

Nominated for BE Student All rounder of the year - 2010-11

I am planning to give my GMAT in coming months from now.

I have been working with Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd. since 2011 in Global Procurement and Supply Chain Management domain. I have decent extracurricular during my engineering college. Within 2 years of joining Godrej, i was nominated for Enterprise level project of Master Data Management and Spend Analytics for the period of 1 year.

I am currently working as freelancing Sourcing and Procurement  Strategy Consultant for a company located in Dubai for a one time project.

Other than this, i am working on one tech startup for the field of education.

Photography being my hobby, I do product and Wedding Photography as a freelancer.

Considering my overall profile with mediocre past academic scores, what would be a good GMAT score to get shortlisted for the interview and subsequent final selection. And how much impact can my 10th and 12th score have on my overall profile.

Kindly evaluate my overall profile for ISB Hyderabad PGP 2016-17 batch admissions.

Best Regards,
Omprakash Jha

All,

I have given GMAT in January and scored 740. My profile looks like:

Thanks!!

I opted fr a course on coursera. Com but misses my first weekly deadline. Will there be any implications?

Hi All,

I gave GMAT last week and scored 690. I saw last year stats and found min. score was 600 and max was 770. The average score for the class was 700. But it also means that there are many students with less than 700 score who got admission in ISB.

12th: 93.6

BE-IT(CBIT):84.5

Work Exp: Technology Analyst at JP Morgan Chase & Co. It has been exactly 2 years till now and i would continue working till I join.

Good Overall Extra Curricular Activities

Please help me evaluate my profile and help me analyze whether I would need to write GMAT again as per my profile. Any another feedback about my profile or any other suggestions are also welcome.

Hi, I was planning to opt for applying at ISB R1 this year (3+ years work ex with PepsiCo; CA, 680 GMAT). I have just received a promotion to a new role. So far, my role had more to do with reporting and MIS. The new role offers an opportunity to work more directly for the business and impact the leadership team's decisions. The scope is wider and deeper and definitely more empowering.

I am on the horns of dilemma now. With such an opportunity, should I still pursue an MBA this year? Or should I wait for another year and ensure this role makes my profile even stronger than this year (that will mean 5 years of work-ex)? My short-term goal post MBA is become a GM Operations in an FMCG company within 3-5 years. My long-term goal is to someday lead a business as a CEO. A plain CA qualification may not help me get there. I need to go to a B-school!

Any advice...?

HELLO  Team I have been working as a mechanical engineer in a core company , and its been 4 years of experience. I have appeared for CAT thrice but didn't got expected results . This year I have started for preparing GMAT and its going well . My academic 10th: 81% 12th: 78% Btech (mech): 7.77 CGPA could you suggest me Best colleges and minimum GMAT score for Operation Management . Does my acad profile affect my admission in those colleges . Thank YOU!!

Hi, Need some advice on applying for ISB. I gave GMAT recently and got 710. But I had taken GMAT before 4 years and scored a mere 560 because of personal reasons. I have read that ISB considers only the highest score. But wanted some opinion if my earlier score will haunt my chances while applying

Thanks,

Yogesh
