Institute of Actuaries of India-Actuarial Common Entrance Test (ACET)

@piyushm807 hello, hw was CT3 for u ? i recently got to know abt IAI and gave acet in dec, expecting to clear it. Could u mail me CT3 material if u have ?
@KhattamInsaan ; But boss after clearing ACET ,you have a lot of papers to pass, atleast 3-4 papers to get a job at reasonable package (5 lac pa ) and that would take another 1 year if u able to clear all ur papers in one attempt .BTW,how many IT experience u have ?spy007
@spy007 @Blu_Dragon i am BE (CSE) & MBA (Fin.) and currently working in finance & operations profile(1.5 years exp.) , recently got to know about actuarial profession (liked it) and sat for acet in dec 2012, expecting to clear it. U r saying that even after clearing 3-4 papers one can expect 5 lpa, then does it seem beneficial for me as i already have that ctc and expect it to be atleast 7 lpa after clearing 3-4 papers.. actuary people pls reply ?

Dear Friend,

My sincere advise would be, jump into the Actuarial bandwagon only if you are really fascinated by the knowledge you would acquire over the years by studying hard for these papers. Go through a few CT paper notes, assess your career goals and then take a decision. CTC's will be taken care automatically once you have relevant experience in the actuarial work and also have decent amount of papers cleared.

Just to let you know, there are people with even 4-6 papers and still unable to get a good break.

read the post above. Your query is answered very well.

Actuary is the one of the few profession that will fetch you 1 cr salary and more. So think of it like this, if you have 1 cr rupee would you give it to any one, certainly not. You would give it to someone who can double it. If you are interested then don't worry about the initial package, think about the final one and elevate yourself to reach that level. By the age of 35 you would have a salary of 50 lakhs and above if everything falls into place. At that time you will laugh at this query.

But get into actuary if you like maths and is good at it. It is not CAT or MBA. One night study before exam will not ensure your passing here.

what if one clears all the exams....???

At least 3 yrs work ex is mandatory(not relevant) before becoming Fellow actuary. So your salary depends on the relevant work ex you have. Should start with more than 30 lakhs though provided all papers are cleared

can someone please tell me as to when is the next acet 2013 exam??

in june
@vik143
I also had the same query before leaping into this field but now, when I know about what actuaries are and what is their level of knowledge, I have determined myself to give 100% to it.
U may have a CTC of even 10 now, which may rise to say 20-25 after 10 years but if u keep on clearing actuarial papers in time with ur actuarial job, believe me, u'l be paid at least 30 in 10 years time.

can some one help me with US/UK registrations plz...

guys i have no idea about actuarial science..m an engineer pls tel me abt ths wnt tobe a part of this field...

Hi

What is minimum marks for passing ACET ? I have given test on 4th Dec

there is no minimnum marks for passing..that question has been asked n times mannn..

@ all ACET takers : ONCE and FOR ALL :

1) ACET does not need you to be specifically from a particularly maths or financial background. You just need to have interest to learn maths and probability. They will provide you the material once you have registered, which is what everyone follows and is ethical(IMO). So the earlier you register, the more chances there are for better preparation.

2) There is no minimum passing marks fixed by the IAI for the exam. It depends on how your batch performs and based on that the cutoff will be decided. So you should not worry about. Concentrate on strengthening your concepts and knowledge.

3) ACET comprises two parts :
i)STATS Pack which includes Probability and Statistics
ii) FAC which includes Algebra and some higher maths concepts, which can be easily completed in 20 days' time even if you are not from Maths background.
So do not worry, keep preparing.

4) Moreover , ACET is generally an MCQ online test, of 100 marks. There will be negative marking of 50% of the marks alloted and hence be very sure of your answers. This implies that you have to prepare well before it.

5) All questions would be asked from the material. So do not worry. Try to grasp as much knowledge as you can and practice as many questions as you can.

Please let me know if you have any other doubts
