Institute of Actuaries of India-Actuarial Common Entrance Test (ACET)

help me in aect exam....
@cj1093 : It also depends on the understanding of the subject one clears . I know one guy whom i met at the AGM last year ,he had cleared some 4 papers and he was able to land a job of 7 lac at an actuarial outsourcing firm .
@nisha0207 : hey nisha ,are u planning to take coming ACET ?
@cj1093 : Are u working somewhere & since how long ?

Hi All Experienced folks ,

I work in a boredom industry with some 2.8 years of experience .DO u think ,it is advisable to change career after say 4 years of experience at a starting low package ?

@spy007

I have around 6 yrs of experience in the IT industry. My problem is I have hit a rut. Moving to management (drudgery) is the only option that I see for myself. If I stick to technical work I am sure that I will be without a job within the next 3-4 years.

I have always been interested in Maths. I have decent amount of knowledge of intermediate/advanced statistics also (because of my forays into ML). I recently developed some interest in Finance also. I was very seriously considering doing a course in Quant. Finance when i heard of this profession. Spending an year away from work doing a full-time course didn't appeal to me very much. Thats when I decided to give these exams a shot. Given my interests and knowledge and what the exams test, this profession seems like a perfect match for me. Would my programming experience help? I am not sure about that.

5 lacs at entry level does seem very low. I make about 8 now.
@spy007 no...i m still in the undergraduate level in 2nd year ....r u asking me this because i wrote abt some job thingy in my last comment....?? wht is actually happening is that most students take up actuary and they think that clearing 2 0r 3 papers wil give them a high paying job...its not the case...

i didn't understood your problem. 5 lacs at entry level? how are you so sure about it. chose the field you really love. Money will automatically come and so will mental peace. You have more work ex than me, so rest is your call. And one more thing you can become actuary with decent knowledge in maths. You really need to be good at it.
@spy007 : Do you really love what you are studying right now? If yes, then I would say keep in touch with statistical subjects, because they may help you for other things as well, like if you wish to shift to analytics/consulting. So right now if you have taken the course out of interest, then I think you may stick to it, for your own sake at least
@Blu_Dragon : I second you thought in this regard. I also think salary is, to an extent, dependent on how you sell off your knowledge to the recruiters. So right now we all should aim at gaining as much knowledge as we can and clearing off as many papers as we can

i would get about 60 in ACET......would i be able to crackk...??

@Barmy : Well,it depends on the score's of other folks .Chances are 40(pass)-60(next time) .

All the best :)

@KhattamInsaan : I think u can start preparing for ur exams with full entho ,may be u can be hired as an actuarial trchnical consultant at good package .
@Blu_Dragon : thnx for ur reply,how much experience u have in the insurance sector & whats ur educational qualifications .

@spy007 ..oops...thanx nywayz

I have joined in April 2012 as a Management Trainee. I have graduated in Mathematics from St Xaviers College Kolkata and after that completed my MBA from FORE School.
