Iam in my final year BE and having job offers from both TCS and Infosys ,please advise which Company should i join ( which will offer me greater opportunities say after 1 or 2 yrs)

Hi Mohit,

I understand the dilemma that you are going through. Having said that I can only empathise with your situation. The decision to join a company will be and should be totally yours.

I will talk about Infosys here, as a fresher Infosys' training is world-class - there should be no doubt about it!!

As far as opportunities are concerned they will be more or less the same in Infy and TCS.

So, don't worry about opportunities. If you want to stay near your home then join TCS as they have centres in almost every state in India. And if you want to experience the grandeur in terms of infrastructure the join Infosys.
Yes, it might be the reason but may notbe the only reason. What are your percentages in X, and engg.(till date)?

Bharat, can you throw some light about percentage criteria; I have forgotten this stuff.

The story so far. Xth (ICSE) - 84.5% XIIth (ICSE) - 63% 3 yr gap BE (mech) currently in 3rd yr at a govt engg clg in bihar. 74.5%(upto 2nd yr). Sat 4 the test (it had 2 papers logical ability and english ) . Solved almost all the questions in the 1st paper and managed decently in english as well. Attempted all questions as there wasn't -ve marking. And here i am kicked out in the written stage itself. All pissed & all confused. Trying to figure out what went wrong.

AFAIK, gap b/w education won't be the reason for elimination.! But yes, they do have percenatge criteria in 10th, 12th and grad, i think which is 65. But all the universities do not have the simple average funda but weighted averages also. But, in that case also it has to be 65.
I think ur 12th marks did the harm.

I think your class XII % is the culprit in this case as they require 65% at every level. Don't loose heart. Infosys is not the end of the world!! There are many other companies like TCS, Accenture, Cognizant, Wipro etc. All the best for future tests and interviews!

Syed, Sharad and Palak,
scores are considered by Infosys only during the verification stage at Infosys Mysore campus during training. Yes they do have a minimum marks criteria. but, if Syed didnt meet the criteria, then he would have not been allowed to write the test in the first place.

buddy, you most probably have not answered many questions in the 1st test correctly. thats what has got you eliminated. as Palak said, infosys is not the end of the world. All the best

Infosys do check the marks before letting the candidate take exam. That is really confusing if he is later rejected on that basis. Bharat I agree with what you have said, that he might not have answered correctly or have not shown the workout for the puzzles correctly.

Anyways, work hard Sayeed. You will surely come out with flying colors.

After joining infosys is there any test before training for non CS people to decide whether they will be in short cycle or long cycle batch during training. If there is any test, please tell what sort of test it is and how can i prepare for it.

Hi Mohit,
The people eligible for that test are either from CS background or have attended the infy campus connect program. For other it is advisable that they go for the long term cycle. Because in short cycle your life will become H***....Their is no difference whether you pass out of long cycle or short cycle....So take ur time off and party before joining the training, because infy trainin is real work...

yes Mohit.

u have heard it right, there will be a test after you join infy, before ur training begins, in case ur from CS background and that will decide if ur gonna be in long cycle or short cycle.

the test is on general basics of CS. it has everything from algorithms to web technology and the test type is objective questions. in case u want to prepare for it, then start going through ur Engg text books. All of them :)

The test will comprise of basics of Computer Science -- all that have been taught to u while your engg or MCA. Like Computer Fundamentals, OS, Algorithms, etc.

what abt ppl from non CS background (like electronics) but having work experience of more than 6 months in any IT company? do they also have some tests? also how long the training will be?

Any experience less than a year is considered as gud as fresh. So if one have experience of less than one year then one will be considered as a fresher and same rules apply to him too.
That is non CS will have to go for long cycle.
For long cycle training is usualy about 4 months. And no tests for non-CS they are by default put into long cycle. It is better to go for long cycle if you are in Mysore campus. 😃

What happened no activity on thread???

Any Reasons??

Any Reasons??

Most of our clients, who are based in the US, are not having much business-thanks to the sub-prime crisis-but still they are required to have a decent quarter to quarter performance. one easy way of achieving this is to reduce costs.

so Infy is now in a situation where we have clients, but they are not giving us any new projects. no new projects = no new requirements.
no new requirements = no new recruits

all those who have been selected, are being told to wait for the joining date. some joining dates have been post-poned 3 times already.

Ok. I was already thinking why are they hiring and hiring more when we dont even have projects in some IBUs and accounts. Hmm, so atlast they realised!!
I feel sad for the people who got selected for Infosys.

Well its not all projects and accounts that have been affected with the downfall. while it is getting increasingly difficult to get new accounts and deals, the existing ones that have already been signed are going ahead as planned.

while on the one hand, i am hearing about ppl whose joining date is getting indefinitely postponed, on the other hand, im in an account which is pulling in people from the Mysore training campus, as they need about 125 ppl for an upcoming project.
