May I get an idea of scope, career path and growth of an average SE with respect to time at infy? Say, after how many years of joining one may expect to get into band C?
I know, it depends mostly on individual's capability and fortune and other factors as well...but, still...an approx idea will be of immense help...
one more thing, this is a thought generated due to a chat with one of my profs yesterday...he is a good old engg having more than three decades of indudstrial exp (no IT), now trying hands at acads...though his daughter works for wipro.
somehow a few points raised by him is pinching me and I'm not able to ignore them. Let's have a discussion on them. All exp techies are welcome to share their views.
points are:
1. as a matter of fact the major portion of softies are youngsters. now, why there isn't proportionate no of aged ppl? do ppl burnout early in IT industry or is this an industry ruled by the young? what's the future of the massive no of freshers that are being recruited these days by IT giants?
2. indian or for that matter, whole IT industry depends heavily on US market. now, what's going to happen to indian IT industry if US suffers a depression?? (this is not a thing beyond imagination...in 2001 the 9/11 incident shook the whole IT industry...many indian IT workers lost their job. n yeah, outsourcing is one major issue in this US presidential election..)

It takes two CRR Cycles for one to attain a band change. So, atleast 3 years is the answer you are searching for.

This is true that most people here are youngsters and number is much larger then those of older people. There is nothing like early burnout in any industry. It depends and varies from person to person. Nothing to be linked to a specific industry. The reason for youngsters outnumbering older ones is because industry got its boom very late that is 90s, making the company to hire more people. So the people who joined were directly out of college as no (great in number) work force for IT existed then. The people who joined then would be aged around 35+ now. So, don't think that this is an industry only for youngsters. Industry hires people with skills needed for proper execution of teir activities. So whoever fulfills the criterial can be hired.

This is a fact that America has been the single handedly largest market for Indian IT Companies. But companies are working on reducing the dependencies on American markets and looking beyond it towards other geographies as well. Markets are emerging in Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin Americas, Canada and Indian Subcontinent. It will take some time but sooner than later we will be able to play safe.

You are just out of college and it is good to keep track of everything, but if you are not working as economist then these things should not bother you much. Just concentrate on your work and work hard, honestly. These things are trivial and will be sorted out.

Hi Parsik,
all eligible employees (Ppl with 1+ year experience) will be put into a CRR process, wherein he/she will be compared against his/her peers in the same project (can also include 2 or more similar projects). the idea is to see how good u have been in the past year, as compared to ur peers who have been doing the same/similar work.
a regular CRR group consists of 28 ppl, and 14 out of this get CRR 1, which is the best class. the remaining get CRR 2,3 and also 4. now while ranking ppl, the CRR panel will judge employees based on several parameters. while work will have the maximum weightage, other activities like being a part in initiatives, learnability, leadership communication etc also play a big role.
the CRR band u get also determines the salary hike that u will be eligible for.

about 4 LPA will be ur pay after 2 years. how much u get from other company depends on how much u demand, and how u haggle after that

First let me know your qualification and post at which you will join Infy and ur current CTC.
I sat 4 the on campus infy test last week and didn't make it even to the interview round. Now i have been preparing 4 mba and i did quite well in the written test. I can't understand what went wrong. I am a 3rd year mechanical . I have a gap of 3 years after my 12th (in which i managed just 63%). Can these factors be responsible 4 my rejection as i thought that the written test was damn easy and was pretty confident of clearing it. I'm really frustrated . please reply.
Iam in my final year BE and having job offers from both TCS and Infosys ,please advise which Company should i join ( which will offer me greater opportunities say after 1 or 2 yrs)

Yes, it might be the reason but may notbe the only reason. What are your percentages in X, and engg.(till date)?
Bharat, can you throw some light about percentage criteria; I have forgotten this stuff.
