hey thats a very tough decision dude. plus a valid answer to that cannot be guaranteed. IBM folks say IBM is good, infy dudes wld say Infy is good. on the whole they are both a software company. so i guess we're on the same boat.
my details:: I am an ECE graduate(passing in 07),dont hv ny sftwre knowledge barring C n C++(basics)... also here is smthng abt IBM.... trning-2 weeks den on d job....from wt i knw,ECE people r being put into testing.... package-2.85 p.a....

hmm....testing is considered not a very lucrative option. but then again some of my friends who are on testing field say its great. the reason why they say that is cause they feel a testing job gives better business understanding and also have greater client interaction. unlike developing where ur interaction is limited to only ur immediate seniors, very rarely with clients.'but then again its ur call. but hey.......i see that ur pretty good with quants dude. go on.........crack CAT 07
waise dekha jaye to IBM......packagewise IBM may b is better. but, if its only testing job in store for u ther then infy has few benefits. infy's training is just too good....especially for people like us....non-comp background.....4 months of trng is quite a value addtn.....my opinion.
2ndly, if u plan to appear for mba entrances in coming yr. then i gues in infy u wud get time to study for t'm....even after being in project (frm experience.:))

i dont think so. every job has its own difficulties and complications. u just have to hope and pray u get into an easy project or something like that. and yeah, they do teach u most of the things, they have to, thats cause most of the companies use customised softwares. so teaching u how to use them is a must.

well maybe.....it also depends on the responsible positions u have held in the company. if u thought that work-ex that is prefered for MBA is just about the name of the company u have worked for, then ur wrong. work-ex is the exposure u have got to corporate governance and management while u were working for a particular company, and needless to say the quality of work u have done too IBM might play a slightly better role. but its more to do with u

Boss, its not that difficult. What is your long term view, i.e. around 3 to 5 years down the lane?
If you are planning to go for an MBA, it shouldn't matter which company you go into; assuming you have checked out what type of job you are going to get. (that's something that you can't determine at this stage, whatever your friend or someone from here says; everybody's case differs) In that case, then go for the company which provides you other benefits (e.g. IBM has sick leave, infy doesn't have that; quite a useful thing if you want to fall "sick" before the CAT exam, how far the office is from your house, office present in same city, in-hand salary, friends-who-are-giving-cat-too, etc )
On the other hand if MBA is something like what you are planning to do as an alternative in case you don't like the software life (typical case of majority mba aspirants) then look at more specific facts (job profile, quality & type of work, in-hand salary, future options-onsite/job band change, etc) This is something that can be found out in case of IBM i believe, but in Infy, it'll be determined during & after your training.
Forget about how good IBM or Infosys looks on your resume; in all my interviews, the first statement I get is "why do we get so many Infy junta trying for mba!!!" I am pretty sure IBM mba aspirants would also be getting a similar statement; so would TCS & Wipro & CTS, etc. To the interviewee, the company you work in is just a single aspect, there are lot more aspects to judge you on.

1. its subjective....sum like testing bcoZ of free time u get it may not b case everytime thou. and if u wish to mek career in s/w itself (alternative to mba ofcourse) then it may not b that great option either.
2. no. it doesnt mek any diff. coZ everybdy knows what wrk we do ther.......IBM is not Google. BUT, in case u plan to go for mba ABROAD then IBM wud b bettr brandname.
3. even infy hav sum of t'm. but whats the use of that........how r u goin to benefit frm t'm?
4. for thes, ponder over points raisd by ninja. its personal call. as i donot see clear winner here. i can tell frm infy's perspectiv that, if u r sureshot goin for mba then it is a gudd option, atleast studies point of view. and u wud get guud no. of like minded colleagues.

Yeah they do consider, but the reasons should be genuine. also i know of only 2 instances where the joining Date had been postponed. one was when a guy from our batch had not got the results of his 8th sem exam while joining. and the other was because the guy had some medical problems. you might have to talk to the HR in advance and get this doubt clarified. but as far as i know, YES they do postpone

but the reason why i said that is cause, u cant have flunked ur 8th sem exam and then postpone it saying, i have my results yet to be announced. or like one guy who i know, he got a call from another company and he said he wants to join in a different batch giving the reason that he is unwell. once he joined, infy made their doctor conduct some examination on him and also asked him to produce the medical certificates and proofs. he cldn't and they asked him to leave.

Do you have a confirmed call from the above mentioned B-schools in hand now? If not then go for a job. you can always prepare for mba along with the job.

Since you are planning to give CAT 2006 it is better you join Infosys and leave when you get a convert from a B-school then join it.

i wanted to kno as to how rigorous the training period wud be like..heard a lot abt that its gonna be tough....jus want to be prepared n how n on what shud the non IT guys be prepared for before joining? shud we get any buks along with us like those mentioned in the offer letter? also if we perform well are there ne chances that we cud be sent for foreign projects within d 1st 2yrs? also as to wat kind of skills are required to perform well n progress in infy?

infy gives u all the facilities during training and even ur pay is good, so in turn they expect lot from trainees in return, and one of the most important thing u need to keep in mind is the trainee turn around time. what does all this mean to u? simple........lot of stuff to learn in very little time. so it is tough but not impossible. infact if u plan well its very easy.

yes u can learn C programming and C++ and also fundamentals of database if u already didnt know they are the fundamental concepts for programming.
infy gives u books u need for completing ur training so u dont need to get any books, plus we have a very good library there in mysore

no.. performance in training can increase ur salary after completion of training. but not ur onsite trips.
