I am having 3 years of work experience in Mahindra Satyam. Now am looking for a job change and I got an offer from both Infosys and Cognizant.
I attended the interview for manual testing in both the companies.Now am in a sort of confusion on which company to join. Pakage wise Infosys pays more around 70000 is the difference. Designation in Cognizant is Programmer Analyst and in Infosys is Test Engineer.
But since am in a state of confusion to where to join. Kindly let me know your thoughts on the companies and tell me which one will be the better choice in terms of work and growth.

In Cognizant Programmer Analyst is the starting designation, ie, it is the lowest designation in Cognizant and hence equivalent to Test Engineer (System Engineer) in Infy, Associate Software Engineer in TCS and System Engineer in IBM, etc.
So, don't worry about the designation. Work would be more or less the same. Calculate the cash in hand. And join the company that pays you more. Because at this time you cannot say which companies work culture you would like so only option is take-home salary. As far as designation is concerned, even if they call you Commissioner of Police and pay you less and ask you to do testing, will it make any difference. 😃 Just kidding!!

I think the 70000 figure difference should say it all. Don't know much about the work culture at cogni....but at Infosys it is pretty damn good.
After getting extension i have got 27 th sept as my new joining date.as i m 4m jharkhand what is probability of getting bhubneswar as posting after completion of my training as it is nearest to my native place

Postings are completely random (though at times they do consider placing you close to your native place)

Will i get time in the first 2 weeks at mysore to study for xat? Is it true that we have to work in weekends for first few weeks??
I wud like to know that could a person, selected as a system engg., be posted, anytime later in SETLabs? If yes, then how?
I'm not a 100% on this, but yes, if you do display a high level of technical proficiency and inclination towards research, then you will get posted into SETLabs after some years in production

1st week is always hectic......the orientation programmes last from 8am-8pm at times.....as far as i know, the ppl from CS background have the 1st three saturdays working while non-CS people have 6 saturdays working
can anybody who is currently undergoing training at mysore confirm whether we are allowed to use the GEC computers after work hours. And are we allowed to log on to all MBA websites like TIME and CL for giving tests in the evenings. Coz i got news from someone that everything you do on their PCs are monitored and many websites are blocked. I need to know this coz it will affect my mba preparation a great deal if true...
also the training is 26weeks for non cs it and is of 3 levels, with 2 breaks in between. what and how long are these breaks? does anyone have an idea?
Don't worry about that, even am preparing for cat this year and am currently into the middle of my training, u can obviously open all the sites including pagalguy and TIME website, but the timings are restricted for using internet i.e. evening 5p.m. to night 11 p.m.
don't worry u've to attend the sessions even on saturdays but it would be just an induction program, without any technical stuff, so if u r serious enough den u can easily read ur cat material during the induction sessions... no xamss for the first few weeks..

Receipt should be fine.......they are not very very hard and fast about these things....ppl even get their NSR work done 'after' joining
hey guys.. I have my date of joining as 29th november. My brother's wedding is on 2nd december. will it be possible for me to take off on 2nd and 3rd december? To be honest, i don't think you will get an off in the 1st week itself The 1st three days are spent in orientation programmes while the 2 days after that are spent in Soft-skills training. Please check with the helpline if you can take an off because AFAIK, you can attend the soft-skills sessions later.........only problem being you will have to come all the way back to mysore(from wherever you may be posted) at a later date, to just attend a 3 hour long session.
i know this is foolish...but which public holidays are given at infy?
Do u get compensatory off if public holiday falls on sunday/saturday? (I'm asking this because a number of holidays fall on weekends in 2011)
Public Holidays given at different Infosys campuses differ according to the local needs. Like here in pune, we have 2 holidays for the Ganpati festival while others don't. Similarly the center in New Delhi has a holiday for Janmashtami which we don't.
I have given the infosys interview on 13th september and they told that they will confirm through mail whether i am selected or not.
So can any1 here reply how much time do infosys takes to reply as it is already 12 days past. And also can u tell as how much infy pay during the training period and what is the ctc given by the infosys. Thanks
My initital ODJ at infosys was on 2nd AUg 2010, but as I was doing my internship in Germany till July end I applied for extension, and supplied all the relevant documnets on Sep 9 (letter confiriming from college director, project guide and marksheets), now the infi people have told me that the next DOJ is in the hands of the company , I mean they should atleast tell me a rough idea for how long should I wait, can anybody help me in this regard?
