IIFT , Delhi

ok..Enuf with the public enthusiasm of being allocated a center.

Anyone has any insights into startegies suitable for IIFT.
I swear I'm desperate for the last thrust b4 being finished for the year.

Add to it a score of 47 in CAT and about 50 in JMET, and I'm hinging on just this and XAT.

Anyone else in my condition ,then please write in . I cant be the only one left out 😞

hello junta, the interview schedules are decided randomly from the people who clear the written test

the EXAM is normal but the point is the competition and not normality
as it is normal for everyone. if u have read the currebnt affairs in a way normal human being would do ( n not only the sports page and P3 )
then you can score off easily in GK too so best possible strategy is to focus on what you know the best ( as there wasnt any sec cutoffs at least till last year) BUT do read the instructions on the Q paper carefully to look for hints on the sec cutoffs.

LAST year there were 35k+ applicants for the test The toughest part is to get through the written part . This year i have got unconfirmed news of around 48K+ applicants and last year calls were 586 ( as far as I remember) that means

80 applicants for one GD birth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

however the GD is quite long ( around 1 hr long) and start up is helped by mods so everyone gets a fair chance.
Last year the waitlist was stretched off to 200
Total no of seats are 120 however last year only 100 candidates

this effectively leads to a sucess probability of 1/3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that effectively means Unless u don't F#$k your interview YOURSELF
YOU ARE IN.

so give it a good shot and keep it separate from all other exams
( whether ur CAT was good or bad, it doesnt matters to IIFT )

keep on workin...........

LAST year there were 35k+ applicants for the test and max marks scored were just 64 withlowest cut off going at around 45 ( lot of clustering in 45-50 marks bandwidth.
The toughest part is to get through the written part .

r u sure that the cutoff is 45?
bec. i think paper is quite easy and quant is of 40 marks and this secton is very easy...so getting 30 here in 50 mins is not tough...apart from this 20 marks each of di, eu and gk... so getting 25-30 out of 60 here must be plausible... that makes it 55-60...plz enlighten whereever i am wrong

these r just my rough estimates
i have never given iift

also plz tell how should we prepare specifically for iift and wat strategh we should adopt while attempting the paper

thanx sumit fr ur insights. I juz wanted to ask a bit more insight into each sections. Like how will be quants, di, verbal and ofcourse GK. Will gk cover only current affairs or anything else?? Also how will be a maths, a quick maths or a long solving sums like cat or jemt. Wats the level of difficulty in verbal??And also DI?? Also do u know ur rank or mark in IIFT test or u just presume things. I suppose u arent allowed to take the qpapaer is tat rite?? Thanx in advance fr answerin any queries and thanx a lot fr takin time frm ur busy schedules. Takes lot of good will to do tht.

Hello catdude,
Its easier said than done. Plzzz don have any preconceived notions and juz go out there and do it. Forget the rest. Actually the exact marks split up is like this:

QA = 36 (48q wit 0.75 marks each)
DI = 24 (48q wit 0.50 marks each)
VA = 20 (50q wit 0.40 marks each)
GK = 20 (50q wit 0.40 marks each)

So totally 100 marks.
No reason why it shd not change this year. Till 2003 there was no negative markings but in 2004 they have changed it and had 1/5th negative marking. So donno how will it be this year. Also considerin all this i believe 45 will not be a cakewalk unless u are a cat expert.

hi lomi

i was actually saying wat i have heard from a couple of my friends who had taken iift last year.. they had said qa and di part is quite easy...so i said that getting 55 should not be very tough....but these r just my rough estimates from what i have heard

Hey.. for anyone currentlty in IIFT, a few questions..

1. Placements are for what kind of profile? and of course pay packs for top 20% of class? highest/lowest?

2. I have IB experience - 3 years. Helps?

3. Test questions..

A. Are there sectional cutoffs?

B. How many people writing IIFT this year>? How many seats?

C. Is the scoring the usual +1 and -1/4? besides, Whats a good score for a call?

Poik, Kindly scroll back the thread a little for most of your answers.
Better still, a few basic maneuvers like fwd and back on the thread will give you ALL the answers.Me's risking a few -ve karmas to suggest more reading b4 participation out here.

Thanx.

What other options are available for those who don't get through IIFT for IB? Is Somaiya's IB program any good? Which other insti's (besides SIIB) offer a decent if not reputed IB cource?

I've looked over the cource contents for IB-but what I'd like to know is what are the job prospects after completion of the cource from a place other than IIFT.

For instance, a general managemnt diploma from a B grade school like(somaiya, welingkar etc) be in more demand than an IB diploma (from a school at a similar level)?
