GIM gd/pi

hey guys

wen i walked in 4 my interview... the guy wrote 8 on a piece of paper........ sure it was the marks for the int of the previous guys...... guess each interviewer gets 10 mks(which i feel is little less, so good XAT makes a huge difference) to allot 2 each student.......
hope it helps
srinivas

Yes each interviewer has 10 marks for him to give.......thats 100% sure.......

But this is also true that last time a student with 80 percentile also made it........so i dont know how he managed it...........?

So i just dont know whats the procedure.........

P.

hey guys..i was prepared with my acads, budget(though being n engg), my work ex, i read a complete godfather novel in a day (my heads still aching 6-7 hrs non stop) for 2nd time jus in case they wud ask me bout my hobbies viz reading, did cricket ka stump pitch bat ball dimensions...all current news..thgt it wud be stress intview..but hey i never got a chance to show my aptitude, they didn ask me bout any of these..can any1 plz tell em that keep this intview n all slightly difficult frm next time so that we can rate out chances..:bad-word:

you guys are telling there are 10 marks for each interv, but what is the total composite score 100?. i had a bad intev(technical), one good, good xat score(97.35). can i expect a call. going by the composite score formula

Pack your bags to GIM buddy

well in that case me with a average gd, good pi and a mere percentile of 91.88 shud consider himself virtually out of the GIM race. what u guyz say

hey ppl, i am a bit late on lettin ppl know my experience at IIMB on 8th march...but not my fault- i sat there in a Iway in Blore typing the whole stuff out and then in the end the blasted system crashed...felt like it again today so here it is:

abt 13-15 ppl and 5 absentees...three pgites present - nithin, rdkp and me...gd topic - entrepreneurship is the way to go in the 21st century...good gd - introduction and conclusion in order and a good discussion in between them...rdkp played a nice trick by being the lone person to go against the topic and diverting the attention to him but in the end all came about to one conclusion...wrote it out in a piece of paper...hope they dont have marks for handwriting otherwise i am going to flame email providers...

pi1: Mr. Gopal - he was sleepy and the interview went fine-

G: ur annual salary - 48000/- not a mistake?
M: no.
G: some more questions abt my work and the companies we had worked with. tried to stress me in one of these by going into the management details of Gokaldas Hi-images...
M: answered confidently.
G: Xat Scorecard.
M: (First shot in the foot) Sir I have forgotten in my bag outside.
G: Get it.
M: Entering with the scorecard - sorry sir! I am extremely sorry for the goof up.
G: Don't be sorry. But it could have been avoided. We oldies like to crib whenever we get the chance to.
M: No sir. Its our duty to learn from constructive criticism offered by elders like you.
G: The interview goes fine. abt hobbies - reading what books and stuff. net browsing -
M: like to search info for my dad and myself and love to discuss abt my hobbies and my work on discussion forums. here came the first mention of PG.
G: hooked up on PG. what sort of discussions abt GIM? (looked enraged by the mention of it. may be trying to scare me. but I managed to hide it if i was)
M: they've been going on since 2002. mostly abt its good college and decent faculty and stuff.
G: any GIM student offering advice?
M: yep. nick is fabulist. forgot the Spiderman. added that most discussions were positive in nature.
G: we are not interested in such positive discussions. rest of the interview went fine with one or two questions on hobby and acad stuff and then he handed me the opportunity to ask a question.
M: clarified that this question had struck me on the spur of the moment(coz they had asked at GD time too when none of us spoke). out of Finance, Systems and Operations what is best taught at GIM - as I am looking at these.
G: everything is taught very well in GIM and don't worry abt picking up the electives right now. worry abt it next year. u may go.
M: thank you sir. been pleasure interacting with u.

P2: Ms./Mrs./Dr. Dsouza was too cool. The interview of the previous candidate with her had been short and I went in immediately without any break.

D: So u're coming straight from the other interview? looks kindly as if gonna gimme a lifetime of rest.
M: Yes ma'am.
D: This firm you worked for. What field did it work in.
M: Her coolness made me answer this question at real length. explained how it was my father's own company and what we worked in and the circumstances it had to be closed down in.
D: You've graduated in Mechatronics. what is it?
M: accustomed to this question so answered it very easily and explained well.
D: So what knowledge from Mechatronics did you apply here in ur work?
M: applied the basic engg fundas in development of innovative equipment and stuff like that and then moved on to say that my spec in automation(thats what mechatronics is) didnt come much handy in environment field as most companies don't want to make a compulsory and vestigial expense more expensive.
D: Do you choose your words very carefully?
M: I don't make a desperate effort for it but I like to convey the exact message I want to convey through my words.
D: Few more questions (can't remember) then out of the blue - Are you very emotional?
M: I suppose so.(She looks aghast :wow:). So I change it to - I believe I am an emotional person, I am also told so by ppl who know me. But I know when its ok to allow them in the thought process and when not.
D: Are you feeling very emotional right now?
M: No. (True coz the coolness of the interviews had made me forget any fear/anxiety.
D: So you are not worried about what is at stake here?
M: It is not that I do not know what is at stake here. Its just that I have left the emotions back at my hotel because i know they'll hamper my thoughtprocesses here.
D: Laughs loudly. She had been smiling thruout but this time she laughed out very loud.
D: you've had a break of two years since the last time you appeared for an acad exam. Are you not going to feel the going tough at GIM?
M: Emphatically denied it and gave a quite satisfactory explanation.
D: What other calls do you have?
M: mentioned XIMB. I have one from LIBA too but forgot mentioning it.
D: So what if you have both the calls simultaneously?
M: I tried to duck the question saying if GIM sends me a call before XIMB which is very much likely to happen then I am not going to wait for any other thing and am joining GIM.
D: not what if you get both the calls at the same time.
M: (Second Shot in the foot). then I think I will choose XIMB. hastily explained that we aspirants were outsiders and we had to go by different mag rankings, general impressions of colleges and our own amatuerish research. These might be the things that may affect my decision. But in all likelihood I should get the call from GIM much before that from XIMB.
D: Today's GD topic must have been very much close to your heart.
M: Yes ma'am. Told her abt being an emotional partner to my father in his company and that I had tried to dabble into entrepreneurship myself but the market was not ready for pollution treatment products that i was gonna float.(I believe this to be true). And hence I believe that successful entrepreneurship is coming togather of many factors but an entrepreneur never fears failure. This all was my stand in the gd.
D: some more questions and then asks me for a question. same question from me. she repleid that Ops faculty was a bit depleted otherwise they had very good faculty in other two.
M: thanks ma'am. been nice talkin to u.

Whew! That was long. anyway I felt good after it and am still feeling good abt a few things in the pi. but I have a few doubts. I wanna ask ppl - esp fabulist and spiderman - whether the shots i have listed above would lame me so badly that i won't be able to run thru. Also did I do the right thing by mentioning my entrepreneurship failure and a euphemistic sentence or two abt the corruption in the pollution control depts?

Also I thought the results were going to be out in April first week but now that all here are posting anything from 18th march to 23rd march I hope it does come out early. Not as early as 18th but 20th is fine for me.

btw on a lighter note...last year I appeared for SIBM on the day India started batting in Multan...this time it Pakistan in Mohali...I lost out on SIBM by a few marks...but India won the test...this time it was a draw! Yesssss!

Don't worry I aint that superstitious...just being funny...

btw my profile:
XAT: 93.59 %ile CAT: 90 %ile(was asked) B.E.: 61%
XII: 82.4 % and X: 77.4 % Work Ex: As menitoned above in a family firm in Environment Consulting for 17 months.

it seems like an excellent interview and what a post

sachin is god i suppose! 😃

Any ways is it sure gim is gonna come out with its list by 20 march!

cheers and best of luck all!

hi,

a sincere suggestion to all. First of all stop contemplating abt the weightages attached to component / whether PI carries 10 marks or 20 etc for the simple reason being "U JUST CANNOT PREDICT". I did the same thing for my intvw and realised later that it is useless. The way u have performed isnt gonna change an u ppl i am sure have done your best.

to sachin is god,

i dont think u have committed any major mistakes. The promoter of this isnt was founder-director XIMB and most of faculty here had worked with him at XIMB. So they knw its a better inst(GIM is still a young inst and has a long way to go) so dont worry. However, be very diplomatic in case of inst. comparison questions and never say point blank that you will reject GIM for another inst unless the choice is obvious(say GIM vs SPJ, GIM vs MDI etc). I too had taken a lot of time searching for my score card in the folder in which i had kept and showed it after the end of the PI to the faculty. Things like these do reflect some attitudinal aspects like prescence of mind/ meticulous nature / whether u r an organized or disorganized etc but judgements on personality cannot be made on that basis. SO dont worry. After looking at the excerpt of your interview, i think u have done well.

best of luck,

fabulist

Hey frnds
I hav through my GD/PI on 13th. We were just 12 ppl out there so no hodge-podge. 6-6 ppl in each group. Now they r approaching towords Abstract topics as in ISI the GD topics were SQUARE and "Cockroach". Our topic was "saffron". One guy was trying to dominate the GD, he was showing too aggression in my openion. But finally the GD was gud and i made 4 rellvent point in GD.
Mr. Mirchandani's PI was cool he want to ask me in eco but i took him in acads an dmy job profile. But he began asking me in my hobbies and ask me

hey ....i hv had my GIM GD/PI on 9th Mar .....we had a GD on the topic "Page 3" n then two interviews , one being HR based n other on domain knowledge ...any idea wen the merit list will be out ?

hey gary or fabulist can u confirm with the authorites when the list would be out!

yes even i was told the same by my interviewer..last week of march.

isnt 15 days too much for computing the final list! :wow:

and any ways every one has a feel good factor after the interview so its very diff to analyse the chances!

nithin Says
well we were told during our gd/pi's that result's will be out during last week of march, sashi/gary can u guys plz confirm it???

It is very unprofessional on the part of GIm to conduct interviews in such unpleasent way. When you enter the interview room ,it seems the 2 faculty assigned work are doing it just for sake that its given to them without any interest.Someone interview is of 5 min.2min......30 min............whats all this............at isi it was just that the interviews wanted to finish work as soon as possible and relax.........its just playing with future of all candidates.........i didnt really expect such thing from GIM...........sorry fabulist and gary but its true..........

me thinks time of the interview is never a constraint!

so 15 min int does not assure u a seat nor does 2 min int kill ur chances!
what say guys!

all this confirms onething, gd/pi's are more of formality, the most important is the xat score, it willl be the deciding factor. the interviewers were looking to complete the process as soon as possible
