Any of the current batch mates get any time to play football for any local team in Goa? 6. What is the general breakup of students for the new batch regarding their location.

Hey adit, lets take all ur queries one by one-
1. In classrooms we have wi-fi ( so no need of eathernet jack etc). And about hostel, connection points fr net r provided in all the rooms... (wi-fi signal is also available in some hostel rooms... but not all... secondly its not strong in hostels, so we use the connection points (or eathernet jacks) provided in our rooms to connect to room)
2. Room alotment is strictly on the basis of first come first serve basis. So i will advise u to come to join GIM one of 2 days before 23th (ur joining date) if u want to get a room of ur choice.
3. we have trimester system here... First term - June to Sept, Second term Oct - Dec, and third term jan - March. U get arround 10-15 days vacations between 2 terms.
4. NO. Currently none of us is playing fr any local team.
5. General breakup... i m not aware of anythng like tht... but we have poeple from most of the parts of india... and so will ur batch too.

As of right now, the Internet is thru the ethernet in Hostel rooms. The classrooms are already wi-fi enabled. The library & surroundings are expected to be wi-fi enabled when this new session starts.
Last year, the students were given the option of rooms to choose from. This year all the Single seaters have already been occupied by the PGP2s. So there are only double seaters & triple seaters left.
1st Trisemester-->26th Jun to 15th Sep. Vacations------->15th Sep to 1st Oct 2nd Trisemester-->2nd Oct to 20th Dec Vacations-------->21st Dec to 1st Jan 3rd Trisemester-->2nd Jan to 23rd Mar (All dates are indicative, the respondent can't be held liable for any legal responsibility) :)
R51 is fine according to the present standards. But the new standards might demand something better than the config of R51. Wait till u get the letter containing the indicative min config.
Depends, but there are many footbal enthusiasts & they have been playing for/against local teams.

We had got IBM R52 fro 45K. The market price was somewhere arnd 65K. It has turned out to be an excellent machine. The config is just perfect for our LAN infra. The performance has been superior, beyond expectations.
Yes, all the students who had bought the machine through the insti got the same model, same config.
I can personally say that the machine is worth every penny spent since I have used(Manhandled) it quite extensively. Personally, I would suggest you to take a lappie through the insti, unless u want to make changes in the config negotiated by the insti, which would entail you to buy your own machine. Refer to the post on buying a laptop on pg. It is quite good.
This year, the config is again expected to be quite good.

Yes sir , I take ur word for it , me never used a laptop that much , Was a fan of that ibm rather lenovo ads, all abt that air cushion on the hard drive and the blue button etal.. Ya me a regular on that buying a laptop thread , no posts though , with a nerd like neo2000 , who needs professionals.. Well I am joining GIM cause till now that's what all my friends and well wishers have told me to do. I plan on doing a specialization on marketing + finance.

donno when navratri is this year but there are some solid plans coming up to make sure that u enjoy ur navratri the corporate way. 😃 . u will understand when u join.
abt the hostel rooms: well when u guys reach the institute, u will be asked to check all the rooms that don't have locks and then go and tell the warden which room u want. the room allocation and roomie allocation takes place based on some rules like same section, different academic backgrounds...though the rules will become fuzzier once the rooms start getting filled in.
R52 is a sturdy machine and yes people who bought it thru the institute got a really cool deal. but u all are advised to start pressing the laptop button immediately...i mean start enquiring it as soon as u send ur first dd...coz last year they were slightly late...
and the schedule posted by girish - there mite be some changes in there otherwise it stays that way...

letter is at my residence at baroda and i am here at my workplace near bharuch so i haven't seen the letter myself yet, my parents told me that it came yesterday evening. so i won't be able to have a look at it till i go home which is tomorrow afternoon. i suppose most u will reveive ur letters by then.

nnanakbbng: well i landed up in GIM while tryin to obtain ICFAI Hyd form. I was buyin it at Career Forum last year where I was doin my correspondence preparation and they advised me against going for ICFAI (any center). They said if I can't wait for the IIM's then I should do the MBA from GIM as its atleast respected in the industry. Mind you they didn't mention IMI, TAPMI or BIM. Their advice was straight - Go for GIM.

navratri is last week of september so if the schedule posted earlier holds good then might be able to rush back home and play a few rounds of dandiya . btw navratri in corporate ishtyle seems interesting though i don't have any clue what that means

I dont think it will be that big a problem studies wise if u miss a few days of classes and you can catch up later.However my sincire advice to you is to call GIM and ask them to connect you to the Dean Mr Ramesh .You should try and clarify this matter about not being able to come in 1st week and then it will be all OK.

welcome aboard bro. seems like the GIM - PG club is gonna be the biggest among all institutes this time. tough luc abt xlri, me rejected at xlri too. though my interview there was a horrible affair so the rejection wasn't much of a shocker
