Well, If you are so interested in Football, You have come to the right place. Football has a large fan following here at GIM & U wll certainly enjoy the WC Finals. It would be an experince for all of us.
The Classes for PGP2s starts from 26th June, 2006 & this might be the case for PGP1s also. PGP1 refers to the Batch of 2006-08, i.e. U ppl.
The new batch can expect to start their 1st Term at GIM from 26th June, 2006.
Regarding, Laptops.
The Insti does provide you with the option to participate in a Bulk Buying exercise, moderated by the insti's IT infra incharge or bring along your own Laptops.
The deal clinched last year by the insti was quite good (IBM).
However, students bringing their own laptops have to ensure that their laptops confirm to the MIN tech specification given by the IT infra incharge. The min specs would be disclosed along with the offer letter or with the second letter.
Loans.
The loan process differs from bank to bank. But in most of the cases, you are required to submit a copy of your offer letter, a copy of your past acad docs, a copy of your guardian's employment proof & a copy of the guardian's income proof. These are the most comman requirements. Andhra Bank & SBI Bank generally do clear all the applications for students from GIM.
We will try to share the views of an student from PGP2 who has already taken a loan.
Fees.
There has been no change in the fees as of till now. In case of any, the same will be intimated thru formal channels. The amount mentioned in the Brocure remains valid.

as far as i know the PGP1's are supposed to report to the institute around 23-24 June. But wait for the letter to confirm the dates.
laptops: you can buy the laptops urself provided you have licensed versions of XP and Office 2003. If you don't have the licensed versions then the software can be separately purchased from the institute. I had purchased the laptop and XP (OS) from a separate vendor and purchased the Office 2003 from the institute. But the institute also offered a very good deal.
loans: well there's no better way to explain this other than tellin u what i did - i tried to get the loan sanctioned in my town of residence - Chennai but faced some problems. in the meanwhile i got a mail from SBI, Panjim stating that they would be interested in offering an educational loan. I reached Goa a couple of days early and gave my application to the bank along with the necessary documents (listed in the mail). The loan was sanctioned in 24hrs and I was made to open a Savings account in Panjim SBI for the ease of transactions. The bank disbursed the initial 50 odd thousand that I had paid as the first term fees immediately on my producing the receipt for the same. Since then the disbursements have been smooth and there hasn't been any problem whatsoever.
baroda: i see from the discussions going around that a lot of ppl are coming from baroda. well even i used to stay there before shifting to chennai a couple of years ago. u guys are not gonna miss the Inox as Panjim has its own Inox and an annual international film festival too.
vipin: if u r interested only in finance and ur ambitions lie only in the field of finance then you can go ahead with MFC but if u interested in business and management and how finance as a field affects them alongwith other disciplines then jump onto the PGP program of GIM.
personally i think GIM is a great institute and it certainly is the most beautifully located. there are very few institutes in India for which i would dump GIM.

I won't like to go into the comparison game again, but talking about prospects for students who want to specialise in HR, GIM is host to some of the best faculties in the country.
Mr. C M Ramesh, Dean & Ms. Ranjini Swamy both have been visiting faculties to IIM-A & other top B Schools. We have a new Fac joining us who has considerable corporate experience. We also have amazing visiting Facs, facs who have considerable corporate experience, which has helped ppl specialising in this field.
Students who want to specialise in HR, the Learning will be great. Expect amazing value addition.
The placement scene for ppl specialising in HR was good, with students getting placed with Wipro, Infy, HCL, SBI MF etc. This Year, the scene is expected to get only better.

u are right at least 3 ppl frm baroda for sure, might be some others too i mite have missed out. inox at panjim with annual international festival is great. won't miss baroda much cos there are many new things to look fwd at goa. btw thanx for that info abt sbi, panjim loans. was discussing with "peace" today on that issue and i think getting the loan from goa itself wud be a good option

To dear copper smelting is now a thing of the past , (mera bhi heat treatment hi tha) and lets slog hard and sometimes party too and start minting money
yaar tell me one thing .. will u be going for a loan from goa , if so whats the procedure , and when are we supposed to reach there.. I think we should be there atleast a week or so earlier to get the loan or something .. waise bhi ab dont feel liek working

hi rashmi... as u are from baroda might like to keep in mind that fore has not got a hostel... so u ll have to look for a pg or an apartment.

Well we have a batchmate studyin with us who forefeited Rs. 55K at Fore to join GIM. His PG id is highrisk (or high_risk). I dont think he is ruing the decision in the least. No comparisons but as I said in my previous post there are very few institutes in India for which I would dump GIM and Fore is certainly not a part of that list. GIM = the best location, one of the best faculty in Fin, Mktg, and HR. , great placements (find the report in my sig)., and most importantly - the amazing GIM experience. Now the choice is urs.
loans: u will certainly get a loan from Panjim, so don't fret unnecessarily. If you wish you can find out Panjim SBI or Andhra Bank phone number and enquire regarding the requirements. If i get it I will post it here. if you really have some fundoo jack with a banker in ur hometown then go ahead and get a loan from there but i would advise that getting a loan from Panjim also helps in timely disbursements.

U told that that the first receipt has to be paid by us and then on showing the receipt,the bank will reimburse the money...Isn't it possible that the bank itself pays the first instt..without me having the onus to arrange that approx 50,000 bucks on my own..
