hey guys. i know this is kinda late to be teling you all this, but i have it from very good sources that goa institutte this year is havin some major financial problems. if any of you check out the the aicte site wrt post graduate mba programs you will find this mentioned in appendix 29. it goes on to say that gims recognition is under the scanner pending any immediate turn around. sorry to be the bearer of this kinda news but i felt it my duty to inform my fellow pgs of what i have come to know. anyways all the very best for all your future endeavors.
Hahahaha.... FINANCIAL CONSTRAINT !!!???!!! Last year itself we got donations close to 1 crore from the Goan Industry (companies like Sesa Goa, Dempo, Marriot Goa, etc), so we really have a lot of money. All the cash has been used for the major infrastructural facelift that GIM has gone thru in the past year. Hence students did NOT have to pay for the same as it was sponsored by the industry. Also GIM is a no-profit organisation, that the reason for the low fees. AICTE has (strange) rules with respect to minimum cash-reserve that an institution should have. Now because we get EASY funding from the Goa industry, we sometimes dont do so (which also means students also have to pay LESS). Also if u ppl noticed 2.5 Lacs for the course is one of the LOWEST outside the IIMs and other state run b-schools (FMS, JBIMS, etc). Most institutes charge between 4-6 Lacs, don't want to name any. We can easily hike the fees and no one will even notice or object. So if there was a financial constraint, wouldnt we have done so?
Also we are currently seeking a 3/5 (not sure) year accreditation from NBA. Till now most institutes are offered recognition from AICTE subject to renewal of recognition every year. We are trying to change that by applying for 3/5 year accredition from NBA/AICTE this year. The AICTE chief had visited our campus this year and also spoke to the students. He was (very) happy with everything.

Hi Srini, Thanks for putting all the doubts to rest. I always believed that this were baseless allegations without any facts and figures. I think GIM rocks and the very fact that no one panicked is a proof of our strength.
Hey Srini, Nice to have u back on PG. I wanted to come down to ur place the other day with UK and grp but then was caught up with sme wrk. Might drop in sometime this weekend, or next week. But i wanna meet ya before u leave for Pune.

Welcome to the wrld of Pagals. Jokes apart, we have been (read our batch and the immediate seniors) getting IBM Lappies from the college at absolute throwaway prices. If i am to quote the lappie for which i paid 44k, the selling price that time in open mkt was arn 70 if i am nt mistaken. Plus the warantee schemes beats everything arn the corner. My take; Go for the same.
just a "me in too" won't suffice, trying to create a record for shortest post or something ?? kindly post your name, educational background, xat score, work-ex (if any) and location and then be ready for a hearty welcome.

Nw that u are entering the wrld of Mgt, u shud learn to take all this. If u doubting my post. U can ckh our bills wen u land up in Goa and try getting the quote from a dealer abt the same. Ask him abt the price of the same arn i yr brfore. Moving ahead as Rahul pointed out we purchases 150 lappies and thats too huge a deal for any one to give in.
At the end its a matter of u trusting us, and believe me we got our lappies from IBM only. So the fact is well established, they have given us lappies of 70k in 44K. Rest all urs. Trust us or nt..

A major part of costs is the distribution cost for any computer company. When you are selling 150 computers at a single point there's a huge huge cut in these costs. And this is just one of the factors why prices go low with increase in quantity. It's a demand supply equation which you will learn indepth in term1 itself.

Saurav, I can see VSNL helping you improve your analysis skills. Also evident is the fact, that the CA article inside you is still alive & kicking(regulatory conformance nature). The error highlighted by you was a typo. My sincere apologies. But slogging is a wrong word. Even they are entitled to the managerial transformation over the period of 2 years of stay at GIM. Cheers:)
