Hi I am Chetan been working for 15 months with Persistent Systems, Pune. in all ive got bout 22 months of work ex.
I just checked the TAPMI results didnt make it there so its got to be GIM although am also awaiting KJSOM results.
GIM was always my first preference as i am from Goa and secondly i know a couple of seniors so it kinda helps.. especially wen ur completely lost touch with studing and exams..
I have done my whole education in Goa and now i am also gonna do my PG from Goa itself wow entire education in Goa.....
Regarding the lappie i intend to take it from the insti itself coz it turns out quite cheaper and i believe most of u'll will also be doing that..
So is there anybdy joining GIM from Pune ???

:-so much has been said & written abt this college being more than a decade old, also it boasts of one of the finest faculties in the country...etc. but if we bar this year's placement stats & look at the placements upto last year the avg has been around 3.77 lakhs INR, which somehow do not conform to the standards of an 'A' grade B-School. lesser known inst like IIMM(pune), BIMTECH(noide), CHRIST COLLEGE(b'lore), LIBA(chennai) etc boast of a similar avg package. why so???:shocked:
:-the college provides laptops/notebooks at a subsidised rates to all those interested. do all of these r of the same model/brand. can the college provide a discount on a laptop of my choice or is it otherwise? can i go with a machine of my choice? is ur insti wi-fi?? do we need these laptops at the start of the session or its purchase can be delayed for some time???
:-at the time of submitting the 1st installment (15 Apr) do i need to be personally present at the college or can i simply courier the draft to them or can some1 on my behalf submit it???
:-i am a B.Tech in Computer Science with no bkgrnd in commerce. what all things do i need to study b4 i join. plz help.

I don't want to say about the other B Schools, but there is a distinct difference in their & GIM's growth model.
There is a manner in which a B School should function. If the focus is on placements alone, while the product is not good, the prospects of the recruiter coming back to the campus would be almost negligible.
Last 10 years, GIM has developed many an internal processes which have helped it become a top ranked B School in India. The focus was on a strong foundation. Indeed placements are important, but the main product, the learning the Student gains during his stay is more important. Hence, the focus had been on putting in place good Learning infrastructure and methodologies.
The Laptops are not provided at a 'Subsidised rate'. The insti negotiates a Bulk buy deal on behalf of the students interested in buying the Laptop of the same config and of the same brand. The deal is negotiated with a single brand only. No, the insti can't help you with an individual discount, unless there is some specific scheme of any brand in this regard & which requires some endorsements on behalf of the insti. During your stay at GIM you can buy & use a machine of your choice, given the fact the machine confirms to the min tech specs mentioned by the insti. In case you want to buy the laptop from the insti, please follow the instructions given in the offer letter.
The Classrooms are already Wi-Fi enabled. The whole of the Admin block is expected to be Wi-Fi enabled when you join. It is better if you can bring the laptop along, in case you are buying it on your own. The academic assignments would start within a few days of your arrival. The laptop would be beneficial in reducing the workload.
There is no compulsion for the student to be present at the time of submission of the DD towards the 1st Installment. The same can be sent by courier or someone else can also deposit the payment instrument on behalf of the student.
Although there is no need for you to worry with regards to studying for commerce in advance, however, for those interested, reading some chapters of Accounting by TS Grewal & Economics by Dwivedi would be helpful.

Please dont expect us to invite you into it. Go to the group and enroll yourselves in.
As for schedules at GIM. Yes it is very hectic. There will be assignments every day of the week sometimes several (we have had 9) assignments all to be submitted on the same day. If you have a laptop then it would help. So dont take too much time in deceiding where you want to buy the laptop. The Intitute will get you a really good deal like most of my colleagues got, trust me you will not get a better deal anywhere else. If you want one on your own make sure you have the following. A processor which is equiv or better than a P4, >256 MB of RAM, >40 GB HDD, Wireless Lan, 10/100 Ethernet Port. You will definitely need licensed copies, I repeat again licensed copies of Windows XP (home / professional its your choice you can find the pros and cons of using home / professional on the microsoft site) and Microsoft Office (Version is again your choice, we all have 2003). Alternatively you can also choose to use OpenOffice.
Test methods at the intitute are assignments, critiques, presentations, quizzes, written exams, projects, viva, etc. It depends purely on the course faculty. Here at GIM, the course faculty is the final authority for the course he/she is offering and the college will not interfere as long as its absolutely required.
As for playing loud music. As long as someone is not disturbed by it its ok. You will see when you get here.
