Dear all, I have also recieved my letter ..... and cool work shailesh .... Well, But what i cud infer from the letter is that we wont be needing our certificates till the date of registration i.e. 23rd june .... i thought i must confirm this any1 pls tell me m i rite?? I am planning to take care of loan matters b4 the second installment and 4 that i think a visit to goa wud be compulsary any1 with me ?? but i am not clear what certificates the bank will need -- cos i dont have my migration certificates and original degree with me. And i am not clear whether the insti . will provide us the documents needed 4 the bank on the same day as v pay installment cos in that case v may very well proceed and get the loan sanctioned then and there ... any comments??

first of all u dont need any academic documents except ur final gradelist/marksheet of graduation or if u r yet to appear for the exam then ur academic performance till date (most probably an attested photocopy will do but carry the original)...BANKS DO NOT ASK FOR MIGRATION CERTIFICATES...school leaving is necessary if you don't have any other document to prove ur age...
As far as I was concerned the bank didn't ask for any document that was to be obtained from the institute...i just presented them with my residence proof, my dad's income proof (he is my guarantor), some list of assets and liabilities (for myself and my dad), and my academic performance records till that date...see if your dad can accompany u to the bank coz then the procedure should be a cakewalk...so u can get it sanctioned before paying the second installment too...btw i applied for loan after paying both the installments...

again no institute comparisons but once u get to GIM, all of u will know that location disadvantage in Goa is the biggest myth floating about. first of all from an aesthetic perspective there are few places as beautiful and full of life as Goa. secondly if it is thought of as a disadvantage to corporates then that too is a myth and it is proved by the number of corporate interfacing events hosted by GIM every year and the number of corporates who are willing to come down for the placements. and yet if some corporates are reluctant to come to Goa for any purpose then GIM has good video conferencing and interviewing facilities to mitigate this reluctance. and if the disadvantage cited is in terms of the industrial exposure that the students get then it helps to remember that Goa houses some very good industries - almost every pharma co. has a manufacturing unit there- and then there are HLL, MRF, Titan, Zuari Fertilizers, Reliance to name a few.

Kise doubt hai sirji...i was more than happy to leave Tapmi n Kj for GIM..(woh alag baat hai ki Tapmi ne khud laat mardi...)Thnx for clearing the doubts of some sceptics..Btw where are you doing ur summers...What is scope for specialisation in Marketing..as i am goin to do that only..what are the companies that recruit for marketing and who are the faculty for this specialisation... Thnx...
i am in Goa for summers...the prominent faculty for marketing are: Prof. Parulekar (Mumbai Interview panel), Prof. Mirchandani (one of the panels in Delhi), Prof. Anirban Sengupta (Kolkata panel). You can read about them in the admissions brochure. A couple of other marketing profs are joinin in May and June. and there quite a few visiting profs who actually practice marketing out there in the industry.
job profiles: most financial services companies recruit people interested in marketing. then when it comes to IT sector they are also interested in people with marketing as one of their specializations. more details in the placement report (my sig.). and to put it in perspective
Peter Drucker (as far as I remember) Says
"There are only two major areas of business - marketing and innovation."
so whether u specialize in it or not but it helps to cultivate a perspective in marketing which u will (by default) after completing ur marketing 1 and 2 courses. hope this helped.
btw, i didnt take a NOC for my bike and i still drive around with the TN number plate. like Raj said it hasn't been a problem so far.
also, of course spidey loves GIM but after two years in GIM let him enjoy his job as a manager. don't force him to be ur batchmate 😃 .
adit: the decision about specialization is taken late in the first year or still later (or never at all) so u don't need to fret abt it rite now...abt interacting with the alumni, u will get a chance to do so in August during our annual alumni meeting in GIM...
mobiles: well when u guyz land in GIM on 23rd June u will find Airtel and Idea people roaming around hunting for customers...and u will get a great deal...connectivity wise, Idea is great and Airtel is good...but Airtel has its own benefits like GPRS and some cool plans...
EDIT: to Harsh: if ur father can't accompany u then there's no problem...the bank will arrange for the forms to reach a branch near ur residence where ur father will have to complete the formalities...but normally bank managers do need ur parents' credentials to sanction the loan...

Well MICA and GIM have very different profiles... you should decide based on your interests ... whether you want a media related or otherwise. Dont go there just becase its goa.... Besides if you leave it I might just make it as i'm on the waiting list! Just kidding... ATB

Jokes aside... SIIB and GIM are two different colleges...SIIB is a specialised college in IB..so if u want to specialise in IB..then go for SIIB... Otherwise..In every sphere GIM is 200 times better than SIIB.... Believe me i am not saying this bcoz i took GIM.... Cmon yaar not even a comparision....
