abt me, i ll start paying back the loan as soon as i get the job... allahabad bank offers this facility that u can start paying after 6 months of getting a job (which i havent opted fr).
my monthly installmement is 10,000. but actually manager told me how much can i afford to give per month. he was quite flexible fr that. in fact that all depends on in how much time u want to repay.
anyway we r meeting on monday (if thats agreeable to anish and neha).
and we will discuss again the effect of VAT on alcohol in Goa 😃 . i ll come prepared with some facts

I too have taken a loan Similar to Nil . The only significance is that I am paying the interest on the loan to the bank on a monthly basis so that at the end of 2 years , the total amount of loan will still be the same as at the start .

Yes it's been late since I posted.
My bangalore trip was excellent except for the GIM meet. Somehow couldn't make it. (Couldn't make it to the Hyd one either--shame! shame!)
I was literally pub hopping the entire 48 hours I had in Bangalore. Must say the pub culture at Bangalore is awesome.. unparalleled by any other city, atleast by Hyderabad.
I got this letter from one Mr.Unni who is offering loan at 9.75%.
Was wondering if taking the software along with the laptop is mandatory..

With due respect to GIM let us not be chauvinistic.
SIBM is a better choice today and that is what matters.
tenalirama, I suggest you pick SIBM if placements are something you look at as an indicator.
Not that GIM is not good. It is one of the top schools and this is beyond any doubt. Just that SIBM today stands better. I am not really sure of the MBA-CM course though but I guess the brand name should help.

Well Assuming 120 ppl would be joining GIM, we are PG represent just about 35% of the total selected candidate base.I think speaking to GIM about negotiating for a lesser price of laptop + OS would no doubt be a good option but we need to take a few points into consideration
1. Negotiating for a lesser price could mean foregoing a Premier Laptop Brand (Like IBM) as against an inferior brand compared to it (Acer/Compaq)
2. Negotiating for a offer without the software would mean taking a decision on behalf of the remaining 65 % of the applicants who may have already made suitable arrangments for finance options to avail themselves of this offer mainly becoz either they wouldnt want to go in for pirated versions or have no access to pirated versions of these softwares
3. If you believe GIM is a premier institute, then you got to believe that the decision makers at GIM would be competent enough to ensure the availability of the best possible Laptop + OS pacakge for GIM 2005 -07 batch. So every decision would be in the best of interest of the applicants
4. A few applicants would be interested in buying their own laptops and adopting a non GIM route to do so.
This is what I feel guyz, jus an observation with due respects to all my GIM fellowmates at PG here. We 120 students(or all the students who would be interested in availing themselves of this IT offer frm GIM) need to come up with a collective decision before we could speak to GIM. Think all of us who are interested in gettin laptops thru GIM should submit our names and look at whats being offered to us, well incase we are no happy with that offer then I think we could voice out our opinions or buy our own laptops. What say guyz !

Rohit, coming back to your dilemma abt the SIBM-GIM wrangle i personally think there's not much of a difference.Although SIBM seems to have magically made it to the top of some B-School lists, it would be prudent to check with SIBM regarding their placement profile and compare it with GIM's.I dont think there's much of a difference.
All said and done you might want to get in touch with alumni from the two institutes or even speak to some of the people at IMS or Career Plan etc before taking a call.If you decide abt GIM do let us know.
Anyways do let me know abt a possible date when all of us can meet up.Do say Hi to Jeetu if u get in touch with him.

Regarding Laptops, the management seems to be charging for the software also since they dont want to get into a mess by providing pirated software. All the journals/ materials given are copyrighted material and these people take all the care not to indulge infringement of laws. That explains the care taken for software of lappies. If u ppl can get a much better deal in your hometown mebbe u can go for that option. However,u will not get maintenenace help from collge(altho the comp lab faculty would assist u if any small problems arise) So consider all above factors and then decide whether to buy frm college or on ur own. Also find out the exact lappy specs frm coll before taking a decision.
