i have never heard any +ve review of any JIM campus. rest is your choice. and next time kindly visit the which b-school to apply thread.
I am going to write this piece of crap ,without looking for advice from other ppl.All i want is a platform to curse the entire f... Indian education system from.
A system governed by a shitty admission process,an interview which begins and ends in the first few seconds from the time the candidate eneters the interview room till the time he takes his seat , smiles superficially at the bloody interviewers and wishes them a good morning very sweetly for at that point they apparently and ,well,in fact are the most important people in the joker's(the candidate's ) life.
Those bloody buddhas possess the mandate to make the joker's life by selecting him or marr his life by rejecting him.
There are a lucky few who happen to be in the best of their element on that particular day and who manage to impress the bloody buddhas with their mugged up/made up on the spot/superficial answers and a few like me who come across as ppl simply not fit for a bschool(NITIE).These m..f...ckers have the right to ridicule him by asking easy HR questions and acting as if it really matters to them whether the candidate is able to answer the question or not, whereas these bastards r actually laughing at the poor guy in the back of their minds and having the laugh of their lives as if it were a relax break from their busy schedules at their bschools where they teach.
Some bschool interviewers think they r pschics who can read into the character of the joker in the first 10 seconds of the interview and then dismiss him without a care in the world.
At the same time there are also people,(IIMI) who laugh at the candidate's answers as if they themselves have never made mistakes in their lives. These ...holes will go on to the next question with a stoic "Its okay" attitude whereas in fact they have already rejected the candidate because this joker was not able to recall his acds properly.
Sometimes there are ladies in the interview , for example FMS, who would look at their dean and wickedly smirk while the joker is given an extempore as if they were the most knowledgeable ppl around.
and some ppl who act as if they were the oracles of tomorrow who could properly predict which way the markets were going to tilt.
Then there r some ppl (MDI Gurgaon) who act as if they were the people who taught Manmohan singh his economics.
To hell with the Indian education system
Feel your pain dude, but this is the best we've got, and this is what we have got to work with.
In a country of 120 million people, when there are just about 20 good b-schools, things are bound to get f**ked up. Even Harvard has an acceptance rate of 10%+. Univ. of Berekely, which has the best English program in the world, accepts just 8-12 PhD students each year, but even then the acceptance rate is above 3%.
Here, you wont get into a top b-school even after being among the top 1% of the candidates.
There are no good humanities universities in India except for Delhi University, and to some extent, Mumbai Univ (don't say Calcutta, because that has gone to the dogs already). We need more colleges, we need more universities, and we need to seriously clean up the hundreds of completely messed up regional universities (like Jodhpur or Rajasthan University).
But of course, we'd much rather spend Rs. 28,000 crore on Commonwealth Games just because China had the Olympics..that's like buying a Nano to out-impress your neighbor who just bought a Ferrari.
Lets just hope that when you and I are in our 50s, our kids won't have to go through this excruciating circle of hell called the Indian Education system that takes up a good 10 years of a man's best life.
U cant feel my pain.
Lets cut the crap.I am not here to argue on whats justified and whats not.
not feeling very friendly, are we today?
hi guys..
im doing mech. engg 3rd year from bangalore ...
i had some doubts tat i lik to share...anyone having any sort of idea plzz do reply!!
1)What and how much difference(both on my MBA course and after MBA salary) does it gonna make if i join mba programme ri8 after graduation or after 3-4 yrs of work-ex??
2)I have heard from many of my seniors tat its better to join some small company rather joining a mass recruiter like tcs infosys congnizant accenture etc....bcoz in smaller companies u hav a better chance of getting recognized for the work u do.....get promoted faster and have a better job profile at the end of 3-4 yrs.
3)I hav a bit of interest in merchant navy frankly bcoz of three reasons----
(a)8-9 months of work...then the remaining 3-4 month are all mine...i mean i can do watever wanna do...i want to explore myself in the things like photography course...guitar ....learning spanish....and wanna try in modelling too.so this job gives me time do all these stuff too....which i think i wont be able to do if i join a company!! Later on i can use all tat stuff in ma extra curricullar activities while appling 4 a MBA.
(b)MONEY MONEY MONEY....salary is generally arnd 1-1.5 lakh per month...in tat way i can earn and save for my mba(india or even abroad)...would have arnd 50 lakhs by the end of 4 yrs!!....though i would spend some 10 laks on an imported bike!!
(c)I love travelling...though spending 8 months on sea wont be easy!!
Now the proble...ill b joining merchant navy as fourth engineer then theres promotion after every 2 years...so il be working til i get 4 years of work ex in my profile and apply for an MBA.So is the work exp. of working as an engineer in Merchant Navy would be on par with tat of a guy who has worked with any MNC for 4 yrs....i knw the job profile of both of us is completely different bt will he be superior to me in anyways...??
Thanx in Advance!!
Hi puys!
I have recently started my preparation a month back by enrolling into TIME and I am really working my ass off like anything!
But the bottom line is i am not getting gud scores in AIMCATs..on an avg between 50-70 percentile...although there is all the guidance available but still i felt like askin u people.
I am in my final year doing engg.
1)What and how much difference(both on my MBA course and after MBA salary) does it gonna make if i join mba programme ri8 after graduation or after 3-4 yrs of work-ex??
Many companies treat people having more than 2 years of work-ex as laterals. So upto 2 years, you would be treated as a fresher (either in terms of profile, or package, or both). Beyond that, companies normally pay around 50k-100k extra per year. So if you have 4 years of work ex when you join, then you should get the salary of a fresher + 2 years of increments (provided the company has such a policy of rewarding laterals with increased package)
This can't be answered in definite terms. They are right in saying that smaller companies give you more chances to be noticed and grow, but bigger companies have that brand value associated with them, which helps you in getting recognized almost anywhere you go. This thing may not really matter while you're working at a company but could matter if you try to switch. But of course, if you do learn a lot in a smaller company and do very well for yourself, you can do much better for yourself even while switching to a bigger company.
It's basically a choice, which varies from person to person.
Don't have much idea about this field but some of my friends are working in merchant navy and I guess they get around 5-6 months off at a stretch. Anyway, even if it's a 4 month break, you get ample time to rest at home and then do whatever you feel like in that period.
Around 50 lakhs in 4 years!!! Aren't there 48 months in 4 years?? Won't you spend anything from your salary??
(c)I love travelling...though spending 8 months on sea wont be easy!!
Now the proble...ill b joining merchant navy as fourth engineer then theres promotion after every 2 years...so il be working til i get 4 years of work ex in my profile and apply for an MBA.So is the work exp. of working as an engineer in Merchant Navy would be on par with tat of a guy who has worked with any MNC for 4 yrs....i knw the job profile of both of us is completely different bt will he be superior to me in anyways...??

If I were one of the panelists for a B-school interview, I would have preferred you any day over an IT professional, for the simple reason that you would add diversity to my class of students. Of course, you have to convince them that you did your job well enough and not just idled away, but if you and an IT engineer are at par, my guess is that they would choose you over him, and that is pretty logical.
But this is only about getting admission in a B-school. From the placement perspective (provided you opt for placements. I think there's some option in merchant navy to go for a study leave, do check about it), companies might question that since you worked in merchant navy, how would you help them, since almost every industry or work would be totally unrelated to what you did. Anyway, even then companies should see something positive in your experience.
Bottom line: Don't go for merchant navy just for the money, unless you're interested. Interest in travelling is one thing, staying at sea continuously for 6-8 months is an entirely different proposition. It's difficult for sure, since more than anything else, you would miss the company of your family and friends, which might not seem important to you right now, but may at a later stage. Of course you would be getting lots of benefits, lots of money, but sometimes you need to see beyond those. If you still think it would be good for you, by all means, go for it. All the best
@avinav...
thanx alot dude...
i jst wanna ask...being an engineer(top 50 cllg in india) i hav a chance of working in sm company and then gng for MBA...or i can directly go for MBA....i knw it differs from person to person...bt im confused!!
Can u help me in making a ri8 choice???

As you said, it's a matter of choice, but if you ask me, I'd advise you to work for around 2 years and then join a B-school. This means that after you have a work ex of 1 year, take CAT and other exams, and by the time you join a B-school, you would have 2+ years of work-ex.
This is ideal according to me, since you would have necessary amount of industry experience to be able to relate theory to practice. The only problem with this is that as soon as one starts earning, he/she might get out of the habit of studying, but that's something that can be managed.
yaar , not that i am not friendly but its like a cliche when u dont know something until & unless u have been in the others' shoes.
I was pissed off with the comparison with the system abroad ,not for the first time though(some one always comes by to moot this point ,because ppl can think of doing a stint with an Inv bank without an MBA degree ,they get loads of options to brush up extra curriculars, ppl can volunteer for the army. They get loans too.Damn they have trusts that give them loans when they go abroad as well.U cant compare the system here with that in the US.even Singapore govt has loan programs in place for its citizens.
Lets not argue on this.It doesnt help a bit
Actually, having studied in a US University for an year, I can tell you that education there is a really really difficult prospect for the majority of citizens. Yes, you can get loans there, but the overall cost of education is so high that the average graduate is neck deep in debt by the time he finishes college. Grants are very hard to come by for the average student. Most importantly, the job market there is seriously f**ked up. Trust me, in the current scenario, we kinda have it better than them.
At the same time, the system here is a colossal screw up. I'm not keen on doing an MBA per se, but I want to be an entrepreneur and for that, I need to have the backing of an MBA in this country (who the hell would entertain a B.A. holder in this country?). But I made a conscious decision to quit the US and come back here, so I can't complain - in the long term, I'm quite sure it will turn out to be a better choice.
Gaali galoch maine bhi bahut di hain is system ko, par kuch change to hone wala hai nahin. Bas thoda zaroorat ze zyada ghisna padega yahan kuch karne ke liye..bas yahi gyaan seekha hai itne saalon mein.
Cheers dude..and relax 😃

If this is bad then what is good according to you?
There are people in PG who have cleared IIFT, CAT, XLRI with 5.5 cgpa in engineering.
Go through the profile of the following person.
http://nishant-the-scouser.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Think about scoring 99%ile in CAT, XAT, etc. since you have more than 70% nothing else will matter. You have scope in all IIMs,
For your info: IIMC, IIFT, IIM ABM, XLRI PMIR, GM, TISS don't look at past academics.
Those who ask for 70 percent in academics
IIMB, IIM A PGP, IIM S,
IIML & IIMI have considerable weight age in academics.
wana share my view too.. Looser 4m beginning. I got 89% in tenth 4m navodaya vidyalaya. Thn got admitd in top skul of ranchi. Bt failed in class xi. Inferiority complex 😞 got admisn again in othr colg got 62 % in xii. One yr gap. I was preparing pmt.. Bt sadly... Not pmt selectd in any of mbbs. Got dental etc. Bt left.. Thn join agricltre colg. Go for Bank PO exams, Banks are taking huge number of agricultural officers in different field, there is just one criterion 60 percent in grads studies, salary comes around 22000 at starting, CTC is 4 lakhs, so ain't that bad, later you can aim for ABM program of IIMs, after building a reasonable profile.

Cheers up mate,
"It does n't matter how hard we fall, but what matters most is how strongly we rise after the fall. "

Hi Guys,
I had completed my MBA from a Tier D Institute in Pune
. I got no summer placements. So had to make my own jhols and jugads to get one done with the help of my family members.
Then I didn't get the final placement also
. I tried into a lot of firms with the help of my financial knowledge. The frustration started creeping in my brains. Because of that i even got an ATKT into one subject in my Last SEM of MBA.
I always wanted to get into Equity Research and Investment Analysis. But I dont belong to a good college nor do I think I have the right kind of expertise to work in this field. Thus not even small financial services firms were interested to consider my resume. I gave in all 72 interviews (I used to maintain a diary with all the appointments and interview schedules).
I also got into one of the biggest broking firms India in their Pune Branch as a Dealer, but i think it was more of a marketing job and just sucking the money out of common retail investors. Thus ran away from there within 3 months. Before that I got into a big US based KPO with their offices in Pune. They were hiring so called tagged "MBA's" But didnt like that job. There was much of Data Entry (which even a 12th pass student can also do) than accounting reconciliations. I ran away from there within 2 months.
As i did not get a job into the Finance field (I don't want to work into banking, accounts or other such finance streams), i switched to Advertising. I was working as a Google Adwords Specialist before pursuing my MBA. I had worked for two years into this field. But due to my interest into the Equity Research field, I planned to change my stream of career. So after a lot of searches I planned to takeup MBA as an option (then somebody had told me to either pursue CA/CWA/CFA). But I thought I would rather do MBA and get a job easily.
Now after two years of my stupidity, I am here with an MBA from a Tier D College (only i have a degree from Pune University & the irony is a Fail in Last Sem, I am going to appear for my one subject this Dec 2010).
I sat in Pune at my home for about 3 months after my Last Sem Exams and pondering over what I could do. I was completely frustrated and had frequent fights with all my friends and family members.
All those whom I considered idiots are today earning well. They are getting settled and i am just freakin around yet looking to start my career from somewhere.
Then is when i decided to get back to my previous career stream. I knew then, that this would be a wrong decision. But I thought, I'd rather get into some work (this would lessen my frustration). I tried in many Advertising Firms of my stream. But then I got to know that the Business has changed a lot. Nobody was ready to hire me. Those who were, they were paying peanuts (the amount which my first company didnt even pay me when i was not a B.com grad). So, i rather thought of giving up and get into my fathers small merchant business.
But then, I got a call from one of my friends in Delhi to come and enjoy for somedays. So I planned on that. At that point of time, I decided to apply for something in Delhi. I got into my previous career stream. I got it into Adwords Agency. Now I am working there.
But always, at the back of my mind I think about Equity Research and just feel like crying over my decisions in life. (At Times I regret - Why I didn't do CA/CWA/CFA?) Now if I have to do these, I again have to study, and spend time and money behind them. I dont know whether I am ready for it? Also, CA is not possible for me now as i have to again go through the gruelling 5 years of study (I am not ready for that. My Dad needs me.)
Also CFA is too costly as an affair. (Its not that we cannot afford it. But it is that I cannot afford it. I have lost trust on myself. I do not want to further embarass myself by askign for another 2-3 lacs from my dad to further study. As it is i have not proved myself correct on the MBA decision).
Now, I am in Delhi Working in an Ad Agency. I am planning to give ICWA in June 2011 (Don't want to ask for money from my Dad for the Nov 2010 exams, so couldn't register for it.)
Also, I am planning to give CMT which i think most of know is a certification into technical analysis. I plan to open my own tehnical analysis trading firm.
( I would rather prefer to work for my ownself than working for those firms who rejected me)
I have posted this here to all those guys like me to know that - I AM A BORN FAILURE! I WILL FAIL! BUT WILL SUCCEED ONCE TO PUT ALL MY FAILURES IN THE BACK!
But I just need to ask all you Puys -
1. Is MBA Really Relevant today (considering the finance stream)?
2. Isn't MBA losing its shine against the traditional certifications like CA/CS/CWA/CFA etc?
3. Is it true that if you want to pursue Finance as a specialisation, then you need some added qualification with your MBA (Fin.) degree?
I would not be interested to know about any other fields other than Finance.
Guys before replying on these questions please do look at the Linkedin Profiles of some financial guys. Even those from the best colleges in India or around the world have qualifications like CMT/FRM/CFA, etc. So, Again the same question - Is MBA (Fin) worth it?
I just need all of you pagalguy blessings and please dont be sorry for me. For I am not! I have made mistakes! I regret! I took wrong decisions about my life! I regret! But I know that the one sitting above when closes the doors for you. He has the keys to open them for you. You just need to be near that door in the right place right time!

Hi Chetan,
I am inspired with your courage to write about yourself on public forum... u should keep your belief in yourself and God..u will surely succeed friend...And don't quit and keep trying for your dreams...i think u have learnt a lot from your failures....even a bad interview experience help us to learn a lot...
All the best for your future endeavours 😃
Hi puys....
I have been following pagalguy since 2 years now and i never thought that 1 day i will end up asking for advice on this thread.
To say, I am frustrated would be to overlook my problem. I myself dont know what I am going through. My head has stopped respondng completely..
To tell you about my background
I have just completed my engg this year from delhi and have been placed in 1 of the makor s/w companies. My joining is in the month of oct. I gave CAT last yr too but couldnt convert any major calls.
I had planned to get my date of joining extended so that I can give CAT and other exams with best of my preparation. The reason was that I didnt want to work as a soft engg(I hate coding) and after my MBA wanted to start my own venture.
Now its been 3 months since June that I have been preparing for the exams at my hometown and my mock scores have been varying from 96-99. In short, I am quite happy with my performances in the mocks @ time and CL.
But the problem is, since the last week, all the motivation inside me has dissapeared. Now i get thoughts like Why am i Doing MBA?
Earlier I used to think of becoming an enterpreneur and was an active particiapnt in various B-Plan competitions, but now nothing goes on inside my head. All i keep thinking the whole day is WHY MBA?? WHY STUDY??
Yes, i feel lonely here as coming and staying with my parents for such a long time after 6 years has been tough as I dont have any friend here.
I think, I am just jealous of my peers who have started working and I still have done nothing on any front and I will be extending my joning too. So I'll be alone for the coming months too whereas my peers grab the eyeballs at their respective workplaces. I myself dont know, what i want to do now. I dont have the peace of my mind with me now and under such conditions, I am not able to concentrate on my preparations too.
Please, help me if you can.
Hey Cholebhature,I have read your post. It really makes sense that you go for an MBA.
Have a look at the Entrepreneur Thread On Pg - http://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/entrepreneurship-anybody-25007491
Also, don't think a lot. Just do one thing - Go for a trip with your school friends or childhood friends. Feel relaxed. Don't think about yourself and your life.
Just enjoy yourself. You will feel refreshed. Then sit with your options and think practically and with analytical reasoning about your options in life.
Check out this link, which I am sending you Business Today - Indias leading business magazine
Also, I have went through the same phase as you have. you can check that from my previous post.
Entrepreneurship does not need a degree in Business Management, A recent example of this is Facebook. A college droput again repeats history into the internet business. There maybe many more of this kind. You can also take cognisance from Narendra Murkumbi (Co-founder of Sree Renuka Sugars). You can find such first generation successful business barons.
So buddy buck up.
:You have to do a lot in life. So Best Of Luck!Cheers,
Chetan.
Dear Cholebhature
You have got 2 great replies, which in itself would have given you some courage & guidance to have an introspection.
You take some time & go to watch a movie, or go out of your 4 walls of your room, where you are always surroundede by negativities these days (go to some temple may be) & ask yourself why & what you want to be.
Do not worry about the how part to acheive that what you want as for that there are so many fellow puys to help you out, once you decide that why & what you want in your life.
Do not feel disheartend as you yourself are making you more weak in your thoughts.
Enlighten yourself with candle of self believe & yes ''I can do it" , "This was the thing, I was worrying for"," Oh Jesus!!!, it was so easy simple & easy" & come out with these phrases.
You yourself will feel the change within you, as our mind is itself divided in to 2 halfs of thought process-+Ve & -Ve & it is we only who give feed to either of these 2 to crop further course of believes.
Domination of either of these at a point of time, makes us feel, that ya it will be happening like this only jaisa hum soch rahe hain.
Positive socho aur dekho sab positive hi hoga
Have self believe & trust in God & have elders blessings.
Combo of all 3 will land you, where you could have never imagined yourself.
Hope these words of mine help you to come out of your weird thoughts.
Let me know, if I can be of any help in any ways.
Cheers
