Thanks mahip..
A much needed thread which helps aspirants like me focus on hidden oppurtunities till we prepare to reachthere following correct path..thanks all..

It is requested if every1 can add by writing :
1)Background of edcuation

2).Specialisation branch & Combo in Bschool( eg..Some take Finance and strategy , some Finance & marketing-----it can help us think what area we should specialise where we are suited..)

3) ALSO Importantly.. where they did here summers and also if they liked to do summers in differnt sector but couldnt do becaz they liked prior education in particular field..like IT background ppl if wana switch to FINANCE -are not able to as they dont have education background,Workexperince and CERTIFICATIOn..
It would be great if in such cases which u may have seen through in ur respective bschools as CASES..so u all could suggest us what could have been done alongside with education, workex etc to get oneself in those area.. say4eg if an IT guy do some NCFM certiciation+CFA levels etc so can that help us considered for the respective crieterias in fiance and how long..

Please note: if wishing to add important carrier advice/TIP/eg CERTIFICATION (if required) and they missed doing it in ther journey alongside with their preps and was much needed in summers/Placemnets interviews or they felt if that could be done would have put them into the desired sector so that way.. ..it would be great..

all striked me when i looked the thread and was searching for my answer..so raised this query as question..:)..as one of my friend joined bschool to shift IT to finance..but couldnt get summers in banking..and he got summers in Consulting..so he was not happy with that...though it was worlds best consulting firm..:).. so he told me if few things had done simultaneously he would have been in better position to get into desired sector..so PROFILE/LUCK lacked the oppurtunity..

******All above points could help us read in as example sets which we are going to follow as true story****** and can dream of then writing our own true story one day in this thread on the "D" day-"Differently ....*********

Thanks,
Abhishek

How is it different from a job as just a graduate? Does not involve anything technical. No coding etc. Lots of MS Office use though. Never worked as a graduate so will not know much. But definitely more respect within the organization and exposure to whats happening at slightly higher level

hello mahip... i m priyambhi and i have completed my MBA (finance) from Symbiosis institute of international Business this year itself. i have some urgent questions regarding my career... i will be glad if u can help

In my team, doing similar work as mine are guys from:

1- IIM Calcutta 2005 batch
2- IIM Lucknow 2007 batch
3- IIT Delhi 2007 batch

The profiles are absolutely same. Starting salaries were same. The only delta that may have come is due to the performance and seniority.

let me introduce myself.. i m MBA from Symbiosis Institue of International business in finance... i have got through this company from campus n they promised me international profile but after spending sometime in the company i have realised that the company sucks and at the same time they are giving me marcom work like just updating the website. is a very disgusting work. i just have to copy paste in the excel without thinking n knowing anything. i wanted to leave the company asap cause no one has work over here. even ppl being here for some are sitting ideal... i trying jobs through jobs website but nohing is working out.. what are the possiblities for the MBA finance Fresher to get a job if i leave the company ...

I think this is One of the most useful threads to see the real picture of Life After MBA

It provides u a clear and crystal picture ,shun of all the glamour and hype.

I woud request all Alumni to post in this thread.Let this thread not die away

@wsw

My friend did get Credit Analysis at DCB through PUMBA.

What kind of work you talking about?

And yes more often than not good profiles are hard to come by.

Cheers.

hmm..

@WSW I do agree with ya upto an extent...that IIM's/XL/FMS guys get the best fin profiles available (Companies as well)

But thr are good profiles available outside thr scope as well..Eg companie who have realised they dont get a good slot at these places are looking out towards some other colleges...eg..Deloitte, PWC etc etc

and dont forget banks like SBI..HDFC...etc who offer good profiles(Treasury, risk....Investments, Valuations etc etc)..

So its not the end of the world if you get into IIMS...thr is a good fin career ahead of you from an above average institution..

cheers

Helllooo everyone as everyone here is quite experienced so wanted to have an idea about indian placements as i have little knowledge about it. My name is ranpreet singh and i m persuing mba from cardiff business school, cardiff , uk also wanted to know if anyone has any idea about packages people get after finishing their mba from abroad. i have experience in hospitality industry of 2 yrs and i am specialising in sales and marketing.

hello.i agree with u to some extent but don't thing d iim's below in d slot match up d profiles......as to.ISB FMS IIMABC gets.....coz many of my friend studyin thr admits....is it true..?do u still get d dream comp n profile..if u in IIM LIK, SP,IIFT....d second best legue?

I am all for differences of opinion and a healthy arguement taking place...but m not too sure if this would be the right place to do it...

Frankly if i am still to do my MBA and i want to have a look at the profiles of puys who have passed out i would not want this thread to be too cluttered, having to sift thru pages to look at the actual profiles....

Any workaround for this?

Hey guys , I am in first yr of my MMS (Masters in Management Studies) at SIMSR , Mumbai....I am an IT engg with 1 yr of work-ex and no background in finance. I would like to specialize in finance. Can u guys , please guide me as in what way should I prepeare myself so that I can get a good profile in finance after my graduation...Please reply!!!!!

Hey thewise one..

Thrs no key/way to ensure that you get a free good fin profile...(subjective to college..the companies which come for placements..etc etc)..

As per my experience with MBa is concerned make sure that you know the fundas well (Accounts...FM1 soecailly)and please please make sure you are really good with Macro economics....(it is really really really important for various fin profiles after MBA)..

I think the rest all should be cool...Go thru Economic Times..be aware of the latest happening...and choose optional subjects which interest you..Valuations..Project Appraisal.. etc etc

This all should prepare you really well for the fin stuff in future..

Good Luck..

Hi Puys,
I am currently working in IT industry with almost 3 yrs of work ex. I am deepy ineterested in doing MBA from finance but I don't want a job in bank after that.
Can you tell me if doing an MBA in finance can make me eligible for finance departament positions in companies (Preferably IT).

Profile Name: Business Development Manager
Profile Description: Developing business for the company through presentations and technical demos, in India and outside too. Client dealings and technical support. Marketing positioning and planning.
B school Name: TMU, Pune
Batch: 2008
Sector: Biotechnology
Company Name : TwinOxide International B.V.
How is it different from a job as just a graduate? Does not involve anything technical. Never worked after graduation. But yes the degree and the designation do earn respect and support from all. Even mistakes are overlooked sometimes.

Hola People.....

my take on the profiles after MBA has as many as 3 angles:

1. My Example {representing the satisfied lot}- I am a Functional Consultant for Oracle SSI, Bangalore. No work Ex....B. Com for DU....I always wanted a chic job, though my heart lies in Marketing, i toook up HRMS module which was offered by Oracle. The kind of Knowledge building that Oracle offers the employees transforms their worth 3 times in the market. I am really happy and loving it.

2. The Well paid lot- DE Shaw, UBS, JPMC and the like offer huge packages {relatively}, they make you do a lot of work. Long work hours, massive applications etc. But people are not dissatisfied but they are too exhausted to complain.

3. The I-Dont-Know-What-Am-I-Doing-Lot- Many companies do not stand up to the expectations of the new joinees...co's like UBS, DE Shaw, HDFC, ICICI etc fall into this category too....its usually the people who dont like to perform in a certain role, call it a bad profile.

I understand, we all pay a certain amount for the MBA exam and invest a lot of energies in hunting the right kind of job and finally converting it. We got to accept certain un-controllable factors....market, economy, personal choices etc etc.
I hope my point it well taken.
Cheers

Hi
my friends with finance specialization got into Finance module of Oracle E-business. they are functional consultants.
doing good work in niche products.
so IT co's hire MBA's for this position.
Hope the info is of some help.
