I am a CFA from ICFAI and I am proud of it. With the recognition that goes with this degree, I have got into a top investment bank.
I am convinced that this can be the best investment that one can make in his/her career and I am talking on the basis of my own experience. I am not talking after reading some newspaper or some blog cursing ICFAI.

For every 1 instance you show me against ICFAI CFA, I can show you 1 instance for it my friend.
The case against ICFAI was initiated in 1999 and everyone in the market knew it wayback even in 2004 when I began hunting for jobs so even I had to face trials and tribulations on account of this case against ICFAI.
But from what I feel based on my experience, there is no "hatred" against ICFAI in the corporates as is popularly discussed and debated in the forum. If that was the case, then how could I have gotten into a top European investment bank dude?
Frankly speaking, I feel that what you get out of the course is what you perceive of it. I have never perceived the course to be "fake"/"imitation"/"banned in USA" and all that crap, so whenever I faced interviews, I have been able to convince the interviewers that I am as good as anybody.
You may not like the legal issue accompanying the course and you are fully justified in feeling so but then bad mouthing a course is also not going ot get you anywhere my friend !
2004 or 2009, you have to be who you are and get a job based on your strengths. Qualification can only be a stepping stone and I frankly feel that apart from my own effiort, and the blessings of my elders, ICFAI should also be given credit for getting me into a good position.

Thanks,
Laser.
You have to contact ICFAI and the Indian Embassy regarding this.
One of my friends gave these exams from Dubai and Kenya. I guess that if he can give exams form other international locations, then you too can give it from London.
Contact the SSD (students services dept) for more details. Hope this helps.
Regards.
Hi TumTum,
Your views are Gr8 and very motivating. But the fact is ICFAI people just want to make money so they purposely fail students so that they can earn through exam registration. One of my friend is doing MS-Finance since last two years and she is just completed Group Alpha. She is giving 100% to her studies but when she appears for the paper she goes completely blank as from where they set the papers. She practices past papers but its of no use... So, can you just let me know what are these people upto... or Can you just help me out on this....
Many Thanks

This sounds a bit impossible. Even the ICAI (the CA Institute) and ICWAI (the ICWA Institute) have very tough papers and students fail many times before finally clearing all exams. Do you mean to say these institutes are also after money? I doubt!
The catch with any professional course like CA/ICWA/CFA is that it is easy to get entry into such courses but its very tough to clear these courses.
As far as your friend is concerned, she has got the preparation part wrong. Just by solving past exam papers, you cannot clear the CFA. It is a myth that by just solving past papers, you can clear the whole of CFA. Has your friend been reading the text books? Has she been solving the examples in the work books? Has she been reading articles in the financial dialies/magazines? Has she been solving the model test papers at the end of the workbooks?
I am so sure that the answer to all of the above questions is no. How can she then expect to clear this course? It is not a joke to clear the course my friend. From what I feel, there are only 2 reasons for your friend not clearing the MS (Finance) course.
1) She is not preparing for it in the way it should be prepared. Her preparation strategy is wrong.
2) She is actually dumb and unfit to do the course- basically the course is much above her mental ability.
(I am saying this without any intention to demean your friend or to cause any hurt to your or her feelings).
Since you know your friend better, you can figure out the correct reason.
Maybe a little bit seriousness and correct strategy will help your friend.
Regards.
TumTum,
I know the course is tough but my friend is not dumb at all... She is capable of doing more than expectations... But she is not the one alone, there are atleast more than 10 student we got in touch with who are the same point.. 1 person may be wrong but not 10 people you can say are wrong.. I am not against the course I know its very highly acclaimed in the corporate world... Your views were hitting sum points but its not like my friend is totally incapable of doing this course....

Okay.
Let's do this.
Why don't you tell me the manner in which you prepare for exams. Tell me all details as to which materilas you use, what references you refer to and how you take the exams finally.
Try and be honest and Im sure we will be able to figure out the exact reason for the problem you are facing.
Puys, can anyone suggest some good books for: Alpha & Beta: Fin. Accounts, Eco- Macro & Micro, FM & QA; in addition to the CFA prep material? Awaiting responses.
ICFAI material is very exhaustive ..and more then enough...and you vil find trouble in finishing up those....leave about reading other material.....

What you need to realise is that she shouldn't take it lightly.....
She must read the Text Book's each and every line.....
She shouldn't depend upon Study Guides(Study Guides are of no use)...
I didn't even touched Study Guides......Initially praticed some problems from Work Book, but then later stopped.......
My entire focus was on Text Book and Training Classes.......and was utmost serious about the course......
In Group A I secured 85%
But then later grew over-confident........Did exactly the same thing but not with the exact seriousness.......in Group B I failed....
Will be appearing for the same in July.....

Am new to this forum & thread. And really amazed by your achievements and wud like to congratulate u for ur hard work and perseverance.
Would need your advice and help. Am working in a BPO from past 2 yrs and am now planning to do CFA from ICFAI. After going thru the thread and ur accomplishments, the doubt abt the course has vanished from my mind.
However, would appreciate if u could advice me how i shld go abt getting thru the course.
Also i fear if i'll be able to complete it.....after hearing those scary failure stories from my peers and colleagues.
Am in doldrums whether to do CFA or go for distance learning PGDBA which is a safer option (but does not have much value)
One more question, i've heard the CFA syllabus of ICFAI has been revised and it no more gives the MS finance degree which earlier accompanied it and has now become more precise as compared to what it was earlier.
Hope you can solve my queries.
Thanks,
Raunak.

This info is already available in the previous pages of this thread. Take some time out and go through the thread- you will find answers to all your queries.

Why should you even think of and listen to those scary stories of CFA failures? You want to study and you want to clear the exams and get the charter. This is all that should matter and rest all is crap meted out by the losers.

Frankly speaking, choice is to be made between equals. How can you even think of comparing a distance learning PGDBA with a CFA? You are comparing apples with oranges- this is clearly not right !
hey Tumtum,
thanks for ur reply...ur truely an achiever and a motivator.....will rethink my decisions and finally take the best one....(hopefully......)
jst one more question.....i heard the syllabus is revised and is now changed......any...idea abt it???
thanks,
raunak
hi, i am sku.
i have got a call from Genpact. i am through with the interview. I have been told that there is 2 months US training and a 2 year agreement to be signed. Also, i would like to know what is the work pressure, as in shifts and culture at Genpact. Please reply asap. I have been informed of putting in Treasury accounting. Also, how soon the company sends for US training after joining...i have been told to be sent after 1 month.
also, i have been out in night shift and told it will not be changed b4 2yrs.? is it so? also throw some light upon month end pressures and stretching in shifts...
I really request people who have worked with Genpact to tell me the scenario.
Hoping a quick revert.
Thanks
