Let me be the first one :)

@visionIIM-ACL

CAT 2010 : 83

CAT 2011 : 85

CAT 2012 : 86

X : 88 % (ICSE)

XII : 86 % (CBSE)

Work ex : Will complete 2 years this july (Infosys)

The only serious attempt was CAT 2012. But ended up with a shocking result (QA 99 VA 30). Had never in the worst circumstance expected such a bad VA score, though was very sure on a good score in QA. I will not say that i am bad at english, i always thought it was my strong point in CAT. So worked harder on QA(weak point).

I have no idea what my next step would be. I am very much confused on what to do next. CAT2013/GMAT/Switch my job.

Donot want to work as a coder all my life. Seriously need to start over in some other profile.

Can you help on this. Will high work ex matter if i get a good percentile next year? Or after failing at 3 attempts i should just leave CAT alone and try out something else?

10th-90.5%

12th-78.40%,

Graduation-74.29%(B.Tech)

Currently working in Infosys(Will complete 1 year in August dis year).Had given already 2 attempts for cat

CAT2011-87.59%ile
XAT2012-87.8%ile
CAT2012-90.98%ile

XAT2013-94.69%ile
Having an average profile(not much of extra curriculars too) and already given 2 attempts for cat I am confused whether to go for GMAT dis year or try CAT dis year again.I am not a coder by choice so really wants to shift from this profile.Kindly suggest.

I have avg acads, 4 yrs of work ex in IT including 2 years international. So i have become a senior citizen :(

2012 was my first attempt at CAT. Managed only 84.15
I am torn between gmat and cat and with increasing responsibilities at work, it is becoming all the more difficult.
Thanks for starting this thread Varun. We could kick start the prep together, help and motivate each other when needed.

Buddy,

You have decent acads and your work is just 2 years as of now!! So, I dont think giving up on CAT just because of work ex is a good idea. Instead, you should give your best shot and try to score as high as possible!!

All the best!

Buddy,

GMAT and CAT have their own points in favor and/or against. Rather than going by suggestion of anyone as such, you should rather do some research yourself .. Go through GMAT section of the forum to know about colleges abroad, ROI, fee, career opportunities etc from them and then decide that which is better for you!!

In case after research at your end, you have any questions, feel free to ask 😃

Cheers!!
@visionIIM-ACL Hi Varun,
Do you think it would make sense for me to take the CAT route after 4+ yrs of IT work ex ? My domain is Manufacturing and all these years working on an ERP has helped me learn quite a bit about supply chain and hence I want to take up Operations when I do land up in a B school.
Ppl always tell me to forget about CAT and focus only on GMAT considering my work ex. What would you suggest ? I know I have woken up late.. All this time I enjoyed my work and never did actually think about doing MBA, but I was stung by the B school bug last year just a few months before CAT and sometimes I do regret for having started so late.
Thanks

Sirjee,

In my opinion, with such high work ex, you should aim only at few top IIMs and few other non IIM B-Schools !! Going beyond 10-12 ranked colleges wont help !! Also, there are 2-3 colleges in top 10-12 that you may skip targetting.

Apart from above, you may have a shot at GMAT too but I dont think just 4 years of experience shall help your cause a lot... for GMAT and executive MBA from IIM-A, I think waiting for 2-3 more years would help your cause more.

Hope this helps! 😃

I am working as Scale 1 officer in one of PSU banks. I want to pursue MBA as post- graduations. i have total of 36 months of work-ex. Will such a long work-ex affect my chances to be a part of any B- school. Enough of banking now, I wish to go a top notch higher. Although I hardly have time to study but still I wish to make it to any top institute. please guide me

@vision_twist you are a faculy how can a faculty get demotivated by one failure .. common you should ... if u only get demotivated than students ka kya hoga !

Buddy

Since you have scored decent in 2011, I will suggest to go for another shot with full throttle and see how things turn up.

Rest, dont worry about profile at this stage, try to maximize your score and then give the best to convert the calls.

All the best.
@visionIIM-ACL my acads are 10-79%
12-76%

It might hinder for few old IIMs but that should not stop you giving your best and maximizing your score.

Try to get into the best of the options available to you after taking acads into consideration!

All the best! :)
@visionIIM-ACL can u tell me which good bschool dont more focus on acads...
@visionIIM-ACL Hello,

hi..

CAT 2013 would be my first attempt.
Profile-
10th-83%(cbse board)
12th- 80%(cbse board)
b.tech- 67% , 2012 passout

Have been working for last 8 months in a consulting firm and by the time i'll appear for CAT , i will have 1 year+ of work ex .

Joined weekend batch at TIME in January,,have been preparing haphazardly since then.

For me Quant is the most dreaded section, good at LR,,not bad at DI ,, have no clue about how to go about with the verbal section.

Office timings 8:30-5:30 , saturdays and sundays off..can easily take out around 3-4 hours daily for preparing. but while solving questions my speed is way too low and for an average student like me studying two subjects in one day is bit difficult.

Also bit confused about when should I start taking MOCKCATS and how much percentile to aim for.

Have read at couple of places that CAT is not just about hardwork rather its about the methodology of preparation.

So, guys need serious help here about how I should go about with the preparations !!
