Yup, its the same for the CAT/Aimcats/Simcats too.Their is an overall cutoff too, but invariably if you cross both S1 & S2 cutoffs you would be some where near that figure..so always try to maximize your scores in both sections.

Wow another NIT Calicut graduate!!
Btw update @[495113:joethaliath] when ure planning to 'bazooka' the CAT

P.S : Cant wait to see your scores after a bit of serious prep
Some Bakaar to lighten the mood !!

Aimcat 1308
Prognosis : A psychological victory
S1 : 42 R/W (15/3) - Low Attempts
S2 : 52 R/W (20/8) - Low Accuracy
OA : 94

Reasons for Prognosis :

First ever Aimcat i took at a T.I.M.E facility this yr.
After a dismal 1309, had something to prove to my self but had no idea what i was gettin my self into..

Amazed at finding every possible cliched distraction at the testing centre...mobile phones ringing , chit chatting invigilators , blinking screens , f**** mosquitoes sucking the life out of me etc.
U cud literally slap the guy next to you, if u raised your hand.. on either side!!
The only positive- seemed to have got myself sandwiched b/w the fairer sex on either side

In hindsight, amazed I sat thru the entire test (prob because of the moral support i got from the sides).
Bring it on CAT 2012 !!

@[533596:Kevin88] At which centre did you write ?

@[514195:seetharam7]Have PM'ed you ..

Q5) Vaibhav was writing the CAT exam.there were four passages of equal length(in words)and they had 5,8,8and 6 questions respectively.Vaibhav can answer exactly 12 questions in the time he takes to read any one of four passages.Assume that his rate of reading and answering questions remains the same across all four passages.By what percentage should Vaibhav increase his speed(reading)in order to cutdown his total time spent by 10% ?
a) 20 b )18.5 c) 25 d)15 e)15.625

Getting a different option as compared with the sol posted !! Need to verify the same.

arghh i had typed out a reply when my stupid laptop "ran into a problem " and had to restart..
is the ans e)15.625?

@[526706:pradyothcjohn] Even i got 15.625 but the sol is posted as 18.5

Anyway, this is how i got there.. assume time taken to read a passage to be 1x. then time taken to solve the 27 qn = 27*x/12= 2.25x (he can solve 12 qns in 'x' time)
Therefore total time spent = 4x+2.25x= 6.25x
10% of total time = .625x
total time spent on reading passages = 4x
.625x is (0.625/4)*100 = 15.625 % of 4x

ah..then our interpretation of "speed up by what %" must be wrong..

Got it 😁 we have to cut time spent by 0.625x ,which would make the time spent on reading the 4passages 4-0.625=3.375. Earlier, he read 1 passage in 1x time. Now, he reads 4x/3.375 = 1.1851 passages in 1x time i.e vaibhav increases speed of reading by 18.5% 😁

@[526706:pradyothcjohn] :Got it!! Thanks...

6) Two men A and B play a match of two games on the condition: if A wins, B pays him one rupee more than half the money B has and if B wins, A pays him one rupee less than half the money A has. If A wins the first game and B the second, then the difference in the amounts with A and B becomes Rs. 16. The initial amount with €˜A €™ and €˜B €™in that order could be
1) 35, 38
2) 20, 35
3) 25, 20
4) 20, 38
5) Either 1 or 4
I am getting only 4) but the ans is mentioned as 5)

Guys pls post your queries, concepts, shortcuts, tricks & questions which you feel will aid us all & strengthen the team collectively !!

Seems like very few are taking @[397955:rohan_bhasker] initiative to heart !!!

@[533596:Kevin88] Me giving CAT on OCT28th, Chennai

btw this is not another CAT question 😁 , its for the puys who are already working in IT , what are your thoughts on the ITIS sector?

I have been given an option of joining the ITIS section of the company ( CTS )

@[495113:joethaliath] Ha..Ha.. Nice dig on the Cat Question Think i deserved that one!!

ITIS Sector.. frankly i don't have much idea abt tht sector (Me being from ME).
You shud do a bit more research abt the job profile..
Try getting in touch with someone working in CTS ITIS Sector at PG or facebook.
There might be someone to aid you on the Career Discussion Threads.
However, i wud like to add that if you are focused on doing an MBA within 1-2 yrs then taking up the offer might do you gud..work exp is always a plus!!
When's the joining date ?

@[533596:Kevin88] check again buddy..... both 1 and 4 gives the difference as 16

Trial and error gives both 1 and 4.. we get 28.5 and 44.5 in the first case and 21 ans 37 in the 4th case..

@[397955:rohan_bhasker] @[319787:vinmohcetvmklm]

Both options 1 & 4 satisfy the conditions per say, however since we get 28.5 and 44.5 while using 35 & 38 as options, had a doubt whether we cud include it as a genuine case.

Had done a prob sometime ago wherein the sol (it was rupee denomination prob ) specifically mentioned that unless fractional denominations are mentioned in the Q, one shud solve only for whole number denominations!!!
Hence the doubt !!

@[533596:Kevin88]

that Q must have been dealig with coins alone (no doubt dividing the coins in fractional terms would be difficult )

so..
