Iam planning to buy a new laptop. I went through most of the previous posts and found that majority is going for dell. I went out and inquired about dell and none of the dealers have configuration, which Iam looking for, ready. They say that they can order it for me(which ofcourse I can also do myself). Now its very difficult to pay for laptop when you are unable to see it left and right, infront of you. they have other config and laptop may look similar but there is something missing.
Now all this story is to ask whether dell is really all and above the rest. Can we go for HP, SONY, LENOVO as they have all the configs ready and have demo of them all. Please advise. what are the choices in HP, SONY and Lenovo which we can go for.
My Configuration
Price: 40,000 14" Screen i3 Processor 4 gb RAM 500 GB Hard disk 1 GB GFX Card
Hey, Dell does have this configuration but in 15R:
Dell Inspiron 15R New Laptop (T540509IN Processor: Intel Core i3-330M Processor (2.13Ghz, 4 Threads, 3M cache) Memory: 4GB (2 X 2 GB) 2 DIMM DDR3 1333 Mhz Hard Drive: 500GB 5400RPM Hard Drive Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 - 1GB (India) Display: 15.6 Widescreen HD WLED Glossy Display with TrueLife (1366x76 Optical Drive: 12.7" SATA Tray Load DVD+/-RW
PRICE: Rs 41,200/-
So you can go ahead with this if you are ready to compromise from 14 inch to 15 inch screen.
Hi, Many ppl suggest that one shud go for a 3yr accidental insurance directly at the time of purchase......They say so because gettin dell laptop repaired without warranty is very expensive and also usually laptops tend to becum faulty post 2yrs of use.......also lets not forget that MBA requires a laptop to be used as a football....thus an insurance cover seems sensible...guys pls pour in thoughts....as cost becums to high with this insurance cover.....
Well you should get 1/2 years accident coverage at least if not 3. Personally I would be buying my laptop with a 2 year complete cover only as I feel thats enough.
Just ordered my Dell Inspiron 15R (config previously posted). I managed to avail an additional student discount of 3% (inspite of not being having a contact of a Central Govt employee, Infosys or having an IIM, NIIT or Symbi admit), just some old fashioned bargaining. :)
Also, I managed to get a Dell Laser mouse for 200 bucks (org price 700). I wanted a Bluetooth headset but that would've worked had my order value been over 50k.
So to all those who plan to order a Dell Lappie do so online so you can avail VAT exemption (4% default) and do haggle for the 3% and an add-on!
Do we get any free gift/ discount if I pay my DELL lappi bill via Credit Card ? And if so, why is that? They are getting same amount by draft/online/check/cash/credit card, isn't it ?

Hi, For me two things that will be an added advantage is : WEIGHT and LONG BATTERY LIFE. Bcz most of the time we need to carry the Laptops and its battery will be crucial when outdoor. Can any body suggest the best model in economic mode having a normal config of 3GB Ram. Probably near 35K. (Better if in Dell, Vaio and Lenovo). Thanks.

You can also purchase additional warranty later on...(evn at the time when your 1yr included warranty is about to end)... Ofcourse, if u purchase the extended warranty at the time of buying the laptop, u might get some discount which you might not get later on. But if it exceeds your budget right now, betr buy it later on.
For MBA, which one is better a 14'' or 15.5'' one? Pls reply asap taking into consideration the presentations and daily carrying.
Personally, I've seen both 14" and 15" laptops and I really don't think a 15" is that much of an additional burden. Plus if you're carrying it around in a backpack it's hardly an inconvenience. A 15" laptop will also double up as your entertainment center as a 14" screen is too small for watching movies (personal opinion).
Dell offers a 9-cell battery upgrade in 15" Inspirons and not the 14" ones, one more reason if you're buying one from Dell.

If you just scroll a couple of pages back you will find detailed configurations listed for Dell and Sony laptops around the 38k mark. If you remove the video card I'm sure they will fit well within your budget.

Adding to the above points----specific to dell. A DEll 15R has a numeric keypad which is not present in a 14R lappy. Also 4W single speaker in case of 14R is split into two speakers of 2W each;thus providing surround sound effect. The weight diff is merely 400gms.
Numeric keypad feature is provided by other brands too but in specific models. Also by experience , I can assure u that numeric keypad will be of great use when working on excel.
