Dell studio i3 350 / i5 with 1gb gfx card
Sony Vaio E series with 1 Gb gfx card

Why would i be kidding here?? And i know for sure cause I have two of them!!! One XPS and a STUDIO...both bought in quick succession...
And I agree that Dell seems to have the best after sales....but as I already mentioned it is true only till it is under warranty....the troubles start once the warranty is over.....you cannot purchase any spare part outside the warranty!!!
And even till it is under warranty....the onsite service is only available for recognised defects...like Adapter not working....or DVD drive not working....in short when you already know what part needs to be replaced....however if you have to get the defect diagnosed.....there's no onsite service for that...you have to go down to th nearest dell center....which are far and few.....
For all those claiming Dell's service to be excellent....kindly message me if anyone has experienced that beyond the original warranty!!!

And I forgot about the second part of the query......
I dont have any other brand myself....barring those Dells......but I have negative feedback for all other brands....Vaio seems to develop faults with its screen.....
I am yet to hear any sort of complaints about HP.....for me it seems to the most trouble-free laptop as of now and that coupled with an excellent service network......
And seems to be pretty much in budget as well if you compare similar specifications offered by other brands.....

I went looking for the sony viao EB16 in blue. Couldnt find one. The dealers told me that the model in blue is not available in kolkata. Is that so ?

Biggies like Vijay Sales and Croma offer carrybags, accessories etc. for their premium prices. But what I'm looking for is the barebones deal with the cheapest price tag.

Friends purchasing a laptop at this stage of our career is an investment not some expense.
So make an informed and right decsion.
Like.
a) I can promise, you won't get a chance to play graphic intensive games while your MBA, if you are getting then something is wrong with you or your college.
b) After your placements you will get even less time for graphic intensive games, if you are getting then there something wrong with your job.
c) RAM is the thing for every-one here, so don't compromise on this front.
d) Hard-disk is user dependent.
c) And please please don't take one with i5 or i7 processor as you will be wasting not only your money but resources of this planet as well which could be used for better purpose.
Processor is used for the tasks like zipping....
Now if i3 is zipping in 5 seconds then i5 will do it for you in 4 seconds...
if that one second once a week matters that much to you... then only go for i5 and above otherwise please save this planet and your hard earned money.
d) Take 14" if you have to carry it or want to use as laptop.
If carrying isn't an issue and want to use it desktop then go for 15"

I got the same laptop. But the battery backup is for 2.5 hours only.. The configuration is very good and its best choice for gaming.. but only concern is the backup.. Not sure about Dell or other manufacturers with this kinda configurations...

The sytem is quite fast and I am loving it. Window 7 is also amazing. I have never used Sony but I am finding Dell quite good.
One more thing my laptop has 9 cell battery and currently it is giving me backup of 4.5 to 5.5 hours(tested).

I ordered online and i also got discount too. The performance is too good.
Till now ive nt find any single problem wid it.
