A lot of apprehensions in wat to buy.
I have been using a Dell Vostro 1510 for over a 11 months now and have never had a problem.
I have used it in all possible places ranging from 0 deg cel to 50 deg cel
No probs at all.
My vostro comes with a complete cover warranty from dell which I think every dell buyer should go for since it saves u in case u r laptop meets with any mishap.
The vostro also has excellent graphics.
You can actually have a look into the vostro before deciding against it.
Also, the biggest drawback is that it comes with a DOS.

I have been a dell guy all my life. I have a Vostro. My sis uses a Studio 14. Even then, from my initial impression, i am sticking my neck out to say dat the Sony eb16 is a very impressive machine. I admit it is at a slight premium vis a vis the dell model. but dat killer luks, i would be happy 2 trade mine. Infact im goin 4 it (Sony Vaio E Series VPC EB16).

went to nehru place (new delhi) dell studio today,they said that they dont have a demo, currently no 14r laptop demo is available anywhere in india. on placing order it will be delivered in max. 15 days.
the agent also said that there is no discount available even if you order online (as mentioned by puys that ordering online may fetch 2-6% discount) he said that even if you order online, it will go through us, we are the dell agent who will contact you. the only difference in placing an order in the shop is that you can interact with us face to face, thats all, no discount whatsoever..............online or otherwise.
wanted to confirm from other puys, whether they are geting any discount in new inspiron 14r series in other cities???????????????????

I'm not sure whether its available in 14R or not,but i can recommend u the following -
PM me your email ID and i'll send you the Dell agent's quotations regarding different cnfigs(Studio 14 core i3 350M and core i7). that he mailed me . You can contact one and let him know about the cnfig u want ,and he'll mail you the quotations and price on that day itself.You can compare the price at the shop that u visited and then take a final decision.

I want to go in for a laptop with an i3 processor and i will only be using it only occassionally for playing games. My question is
"Should i go in for an external graphics card with the i3 processor or is the graphics engine of the i3 good enough for playing games like NFS or FIFA?"

The on-board graphics card is good enough for basic games. For graphic intensive games u need atleast a 512 MB dedicated card.

The later versions of FIFA viz Fifa 09,FIFA 10,Worldcup 2010 run at high quality only in case of a gfx card.That holds true for NFS too.It will be good if you go for atleast a 512MB gfx card.

4)2 GB RAM
5)320 GB HDD
Got a backpack as well and a USB mouse and headphones for free.The entire thing cost me 31k approx. What do you think? It was a decent bargain na? Also would it be sufficient for my bschool requirements?

2) 500 GB 7200 RPM Hard Disk
3) 2.4 GHZ (Turbo Boost upto 2.93)
4) i-5 520M Processor
5) 1 GB Dedicated Graphics Card
6) 9 Cell battery (upto 8 hours back up)
7) Blue Color with Black trimBack lit Keyboard
The model is usually for 44k with basic features and and an i3 processor. With the additional features (few others like 20 months antivirus, special bag etc.), it has cost me 54k. Should arrive in a few days!!!

it normaly takes 10-12 days for shipping. Iam assuming that u got a call from Dell customer care aftr placin online order & u confirmed d model with him on fri.
jus 1 more thing, did u try n bargain regarding student discount or othrs such thins etc??
Also let us knw whethr OS & drivers CD is provided along with d lappy wen it arrives.
as evn m plannin 2 buy d same model, bt 14R (14" only coz 'll b bit less bulky)

no resource dvd s are not being given. they said my lappy would have it in the hard disk. as dell has stopped providing dvd s for the same. and i asked for discounts. bt they said no discount is available. i have send draft and quotation on friday. today they confirmed that my order has been booked. i would get it by thursday next week. i will post pics after i get the lappy..
