Buying A Laptop

HP's battery life isnt gr8
Vaio is all candy Looks

You can get a Dell with core i5 430M / core i3 350M at the same price as that u'll get a core 2 duo / core i3 330M processor.

Regarding Dell services - It is the Best.

Rest is your wish ,if u do care so much for looks

P.S. - there's a gud difference b/w i3 330M and i3 350M.

I beg to differ my friend...
u seem to be obsessed wid dell..
i respect dell as a brand but wen someone is asking for advice u should be objective and not put up ur choice....
make objective and fact based claims....
ur only point worth following was wen u talked of price difference...
rest is all imagination...

HPs battery life isnt great----totally wrong claim...
VAIO is all candy looks----totally subjective and totally wrong...
man their build quality is one of the best and that too with looks...
generally sturdiness and robustness is compromised if focus is on looks..
but sony is a pioneer in this combo....

vaio is better than dell inspiron and studio series in following ways:
1)build quality...
2)temperature control...dell is very badnaam in this area, run a 1080p hd movie on vaio...its jus warm way comfortable than a dell oven...
3)keyboard...1 sony has isolated kb wid great tactile feedback, 2 dells newer ispirons have a very weak kb area....
4)looks and design
5)u have features like quick web access...where u can use internet without boooting into windows and wasting any time..
6)screen quality...though u cann add a full hd screen in dell to..but that wudnt be a free addon...
again sony is offering ati 5650...while originally dell is providing 5145...so more money for that upgrade...

i3 vs i5 wont be observable if ur not into grafix rendering and 3d modelling...
but 5650 vs 5145 wud be very observable...

also sony vaio e series has one model @ 57k wid i5+5650...

Dell XPS is bettr than regular dell but then we have F and FZ from sony...which are way better than dell's offerings....

SO man basically it all boils down to personal preference and budget...

but atleast u shud not make false claims....

hey mate how is dell xps 16?

man u can blindely purchase any model from HP DELL SONY APPLE....

of course do consider ur needs and requirements and ur budget...

hey thanks buddy

can u suggest me some laptop with range in between 50k to 70k
hey thanks buddy

can u suggest me some laptop with range in between 50k to 70k

hello amit...
first i wud suggest carefully jot down ur needs...as u have already done wid ur budget...

u can consider two kinds of laptops:
a)biz class- which have lower grafix capabilities in ur budget..but offer things like hard disk shock protection, mettalic body...etc etc...
u can consider HPs probooks and dell vostro in this class...
leader in this class is though lenovo's thinkpad...

b)this category called home user is what i wud suggest u...
as we as students wont be using laptops in tough conditions like temeparture variation, high humidity and ofcourse we wud do nethng to prevent our darling machines from falling in the first palce...
and u can spend the money saved on security front in things like grafix card, wireless mouse and all....

in that budget u can consider...
'
a)xps 16 - 70k
b)sony eb - 50k
c)sony ea - 57k
d)sony f- 70k
e)hp dv6 - noy sure about latest prices man..

these are not listed in any oreder of preference...
and take my word..u wud be satisfied with wtever u buy...provided u look at all of them at their sites and then make a decisin...
these models have specs that'll more than fulfill ur needs..

all have 4gb or more ram,
i3 or i5 processors,
500 or more hd,
good grafix cards....mid-high level in all except sony F which sports a high-level gfx card...

things to notice are screen resolution, build quality is graet in all.(tho sony tops the list), design is good in all..and very subjective...

verdict: all models are no-regret models....just look at the image gallery on the sites...
and yes dont get confuses by minor issues like i3-330 or 350 model..
these things matter only if u do heavy tasks like rendering, 3d modelling etcc.....

even i3 vs i5 wont be observable by a mid-level gamer....
and no hint wud be picked up by a movie buff...
so normal users just wont know the difference...

I just gave the link address, I am not sure how that big title came in my post. Is it wrong to post links here?

today i went to dell salesmen nd wot he offered me is 2% discount 4 govt employees
can u pls pm me ur salesman no. if u hav it cos 6% is a big save

sorry brother jst, lost d number:shocked: bt u can easily, contact dell on dere no. u will get it easily....am sure of dat

I'm just comparing these for a given price tag .

Its not a false claim dude.I had a Vaio in college and i was'nt impressed at all with it esp. with the heat thing that u so blatantly are proclaiming is worth every other lappy.

Now i have a dell studio 14 , and its been a week only but its working much better than i expected and i'll reiterate that at a given price tag Dell gives u the best configuration. At 40k where u can get an Inspiron with core i5 and other cnfig. u 'll find it hard to land a lappy of Vaio with even an i3 and the same cnfig. i guess.Money is definitely a constraint for many here .

Regarding HP ,i'm not the only person defending it.You can create a poll and see for yourself how HP stands in race with others esp. in battery life. Its no way bad, but then u get the best at around 55k or more.

P.S. - It could be that it was my bad luck that the system that i had (Vaio) was an exception .The reverse can also be true but (about the sytem u described).Anyways,No offence dude. You had the right to add your perspective .

Guys my budget just got reduced to 35 k (from 45) I can maybe go another 2-3 ks higher (at the most)...Can you suggest me something that I can buy in the given price range ...considering the fact that I'm also a game freak .....your assistance would be much appreciated ...and as I would be going out on Monday for laptop hunting , what's the best place I can find one in Delhi? Nehru Place? Janakpuri? Some where Else?

Delhi me to dost Nehru Place is the best.Go through an Acer showroom ,and i did'nt mean to say again but at 35-38k ,dell Inspiron will also b a good buy.

I am a Vaio user, but not a fanboy by any means. I feel there are many options out there which offer better value for money. That said, there are a few things a Vaio offers that don't make it that bad a deal. To name the ones which I consider worthwhile:

# Amazing battery life
My machine is about 2.5 years old, but I can still squeeze about 3+ hours doing normal work. True story.

# Decent build quality
I wouldn't say that it's the best out there (that compliment, my friends, is reserved only for a Macintosh), but apart from some of the stickers getting dog-eared, most things have remained intact.

# Good ergonomics
I wouldn't say this is make-or-break feature, but some folks like it clean and smooth.

I can't really say how it compares with a Dell or an HP, because I haven't used those brands long enough to judge them.

@gingerprince:
Sir-ji, you'll have to lower your expectations as a gamer at that budget. You can look at Acer, but be warned that it is notorious for its battery life. Can't say if the new ones are any better.

And as Chesterchaz mentioned, Nehru Place is where you'll get the best options and deals. You can check this as well before you start out on your journey.

hi I am biased towards lenovo but can change if find dell better,...can anyone plz suggest me a good hard/compatible with most games kinda laptop and of course with good hard drive space n at least 15 inch screen laptop within 40-45k range.btw if its too good I can stretch my budget to 50k.....

Dell(TM) Studio 15 Laptop (S541036IN
this is a perfect laptop. listen puys i have workd with dell as a tech support agent and trust me studio systems are best . inspiron though on the cheaper side but studio is awesoem.
and ya on ething to note....
IF U BUY A LAPPY WITHOUT GRAPHIC CARD U WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO GET GRAPHIC CARD INSTALLED IN THE LAPPY IN FUTURE. SO JUST REEMEBER THAT B4 BUYING UR LAPPY..

hope this inf is usefull.

bhai no offences meant at all...

u have totally misconstrued me...
im game for objective analysis and not at all for subjective opinions..
and again u began wid:
"i was not impressed wid a vaio"

i have said i respect dell, hp, sony a lot...
u need to read my post number 1879 on this thread on page 188...

while u seem to be totally obsessed wid dell...no problem wid that...
i'm against ur viewpoint that sony is all candy looks...

and on the price front i agree it is pricey...but not for nothing...
u get unbeatable looks, design, and a lot more...that i wrote in the original post and u havent refuted those points...

and by the way the price difference is hardly 3k-4k....

lets take into consideration...
vaio eb16 retailing at 50k
a dell studio wid similar config is retailing at 47 k...

u can check the veracity of these claims urself...

and these 3000-4000 bucks are not goin to drain...
vaio's build quality and looks, keyboard, heating will compensate that...

so as i said in post number 1879...
sony hp dell apple lenovo(only thinkpads) offer u great products..and u can sort out comparable models...finally it all depends on personal choice...
but such a rude statement: sony vaio is all candy looks...jus doesnt stand up to scrutiny...
thats why i retorted...

PS:
1)on an average vaio's dont get heated as much as machines from other brands (it can differ depending on how u maintain ur machine)

2)while dell till 2009 = oven... they used to get heated up a lot ...i hope they have fixed this in newer models....u can enlighten us buddy...

3)im sure hp's battery life that u have seen is an one-off case ....as a matter of fact...there's a confirmed battery drain problem in inspiron 15s...
moreover a lot depends on how ppl maintain there machines....

hope i conveyed my thoughts in a convincing manner bro...

lastly...u are entitled to ur own opinions...
happy laptopping......bye....

Here's 1 more snapshot of it.

@ vishavjit

I'm sry dude if you got offended. All my info is regarding Dell Studio btw guys, not Inspirons.

best wishes man...
happy laptopping....
:cheers::cheers::cheers:
