Buying A Laptop

Yaar I was also considering NETBOOK, but all the netbooks which I saw, dont hav DVD ROM.
So, anybody hav any knowledge about netbook with dvd drive?

go for samsung r418. it will cost u arund 25000.it has been provided by my co. and it's working superbly for arund 6 months.

all the specs are quite good.

plus points-
easy to carry and
no weight issues

led display..naturally saves u a lot in power and works for 3 hrs 20 mins roughly with a full charge which i think is quite amazing

no overheating issues .

and at that price after sales service is a big issue which have to be comprised, but samsung offers u 2 yrs national and 1 yrs international warranty.

and samsung after sales service is very good in my city at least.

p.s.- go check out r418 in store and compare it with netbooks, acer ,toshiba cheap models.

i def. will say..at that price r418 is gift for budget consumers
Well the VAIO laptop looks good. Heres the link for it:
VPCEB16FG : E Series : VAIO Laptop & Computer : Sony India

The only dampener for me here is the i3 processor whereas Acer gives i5 for 45k. But yeh there is no doubt that the Sony Vaio displays are best among any brand.

sony vaio after sale service is very costly...
I think people are talking of laptops of very high range here.
If ur aim is to buy one for working, read on:

My advice: GO for DELL. Others are very far behind.
New series is available and DELL Inspiron is a very good series.
Range starts frm 32k and that has a pretty gud config.

Haan if u need bettr configs for games, etc then it is a completely diff issue
Then go for Graphics card, high boost speaker, etc

Bhai itni batti kyu de rahe ho.....
"GO for DELL. Others are very far behind."

others are very far behind in what??????

If you are from some technical background you should appreciate the fact that top companies like HP, DELL, APPLE, SONY, IBM (prior to the sale of manufacturimg arm to lenovo, but THINKPAD abhi bhi thik hai) all provide you great machines...

excluding IBM THINKPAD series which is world-leader with more innovations packed than keys on a laptop....
machines with comparable configurations are almost similar:
so my take:

1)leader is IBM (Lenovo) Thinkpads

2)HP and DELL machines are sold like anything as they fit our budgets...both are great....almost similar....
though its very true that DELL HAS SERIOUS HEATING PROBLEMS........
i hope that they fix it wid new series...
im talkin from experince not hearsay....ive seen two motherboards melting under a DELL hood....earlir HP DV4s also had this problem....now theyve fixed it...

3)then SONY and APPLE are comparable (i know they differ in platforms but im talkin of hardware, legacy, design)...both are pricey but remebr that u r payin those extra bucks for unique designs, some better features put up here or there (sony's awesome keyboard) and emotional satisfaction...
but remember sony's F and FZ series are way above apple's macbook...

also remember that DELL and HP have some higher-end models which are comparable to sony's mid-level offerings and macbooks....
and DONT forget that ALIENWARE is now available in india...and who sells it....DELL....so basically it boils down to what product of a company u are buying....
buildquality is very high in all HP dell sony apple...

4)now i'll put here some lesser brands which are behind the above ones..in design, build quality, reliability.....
lenovo ideapads, acer, hcl leaptops, lg,

cant say bout samsung..as haven't seen/felt it...but SAMSUNG will for sure be above these laggards....
samsung is worlds best and largest electronic company..their stuff is reliable...
most of worlds RAMs, ROMs, CPUs, MMCs and what not use inputs from SAMUNG...

5)BAKI its all how u maintain ur stuff....
i also have thsi sahara notebook for 5 yrs now..got it for 27K for rough use....when HPs and DELLs with somwhat comparable though better specs were around 30-45K
Even Hp and Asus and Acer have come up with thier minis and nearly all of them have the same processor. i was thinking that whats the use of a notebook during MBA ..just to read and type. hardly will i be gettng time for other stuff. Saving 30K is a big deal and nehow after PG i wont be using it.
i would rather deposit 30K in FD in do somethng else after 2 yrs.
What say guys ??

well, if u wana prepare ur case studies , projects, presentations etc in college's computer lab only den u def don need it !
n as far as savin is concerned , u can deposit ur PG fees of 4-5 lacs also, dat wud b a better idea ! no hard feelins dude, bt my point is d basic idea behind havin a notebook is u can work on d go, i.e portability ! n trust ne it wont b used 4 jus readin n typin in those 2 yrs !!!
Always go for a full-blown laptop for an mba school. Nettops will keep you out of major action (and i am not taking gaming). Don't be a fool, buy good laptops and invest wisely.

As for me, APPLE ROCKS Nothing beats an APPLE.

Can you be bit more specific as to what keeps a candidate in or out of major action(gaming not included)??

30,000 INR wouldn't be worth consideration for you when Laptop's configuration is concerned but it is for me and for many others. Can u mention the cons of having a mini notebook without loosing ur moral.
As far as 2 yrs @ Bschool is concerned, people also buy a second hand solo processor laptop and complete thier PG without hassles.

Guys !! Have u all checked the MSI Notebooks, I haven't seen it yet but the reports on various foreign websites seems to be praising it for its ruggedness.
MSI is also available in India and have come up with some more notebooks in various segments.
My only concern is the After Sales Service and Reliability.

my apologies 4 dat bro....newaz , here a few cons of netbuks :
-small keyboard n screen size les dan a traditional lappy , lil difficlt 2 adjust 4 sum ppl
-no optical drives like CD/DVD
-less powerful processors so sluggish multitasking handling ability
-less memory (160 GB max ) n RAM dan a traditional lappy
-limitations(pixletation effets due 2 les screen resolution) while playin games n online vids
-Not powerful enough 4 advanced software
- wud support only xp n sum linux versions ( no win7 or vista )
it is normaly recommended 4 Web browsing, e-mail and
simple office tasks.
saving a few k's dosent make up for performance n capacity
( i beleive a gud netbok wud cost arnd 20-25k)
wud like 2 add dat evn small amt of money is considerable n dat holds true 4 me 2 bt its an investmnt 4 min 2 yrs(atlst) dat v r makin n it shud yield necessary results 2.
n if 1 gets a gr8 deal on a 2nd hand lappy, he shud def go ahead. m nt against it yaar ;)
apologies again if i've crossed my limit !

Guys.. I am thinking about going for a laptop which does not have Windows pre installed in it.... I am looking at laptops with Linux/DOS. What are the disadvantages of such laptops.....

I would love to have Win XP but these days no laptops come with preinstalled XP.

for the netbook lovers and netbook haters

Dear all , a very honest advice to everyone.

Any investment shud b made wid good long term interests in mind. a netbook is a good interim investment only. As a manager one might b required to operate with complex n heavy project management softwares, which are increasingly becoming a trend. genuinely netbooks are for ppl with no other important interest in computers dan an ipad. though netbooks might b enough for basic education aid i doubt it will prove its worth on managerial grounds. Increasingly more and more softwares are coming up with higher processor requirements. Many ppl might even suggest that atom based netbooks will find difficult 2 catch up later as more advanced versions of managerial software tools find popularity in market. NETBOOKS r for basic computing, reading, writing, and a bit of multimedia though with low quality. Moreover its worth noticing dat most good netbooks will cost around 20 to 25 k. adding another 10 k cud bring u in a better position in the longer run.

though dey r very handy, netbooks will heat up very badly if are multitasking. atom processor is plagued with heating problems coz it is an ultra low power processor n cant take much load. thus u might find it difficult 2 read a dvd or mp3 file , surf web , and make a presentaion with audio visuals at da same time. atom is as good as intel M. it is very slow. if u can get a netbook with core2duo it will stand u in a gud position. but then again it will be as costly as other laptops and with lower battery back up. so dats a bad option.

having said all that it is also interesting 2 note that technologies are getting obsolete by the day. u might find xp getting obsolete in a few years of time. and so also xp based softwares. all dis makes netbooks a risky proposition. coz they r not versatile and not compatible. i believe as long as u dont plan to buy a new hifi notebook again after mba, a netbook is a bad idea and a very bad one indeed coz ur requirements n expectation out of ur notebook r gonna change, xpand to b precise. well, money in any amount is money after all and hard earned and shud not b wasted. but may b a netbook might look like a waste of money at a later point of tym.

moral of da story

buy a netbook only if its for temporary use n only if u r gonna replace dem after mba. coz, they r robust, low power comsuming and handy and gud enough for educational purposes for a student. if u r in for it da best option is asus ee pc and inspirion mini.

dont buy a netbook if u r a professional and want ur notebook 2 help u in da longer run. if u r in for it my bet would b studio, highly configured inspirion or vostro (only new designs, designs dat start with 1 have bad speakers beware!!!)

sry fr breaking any long standing faiths or plans.

No offenses to your research but u dont need to worry about working on the sophisticated projects ,its the headache of the company to provide you with such a robust and hitech machine to work on projects that require heavy processing. After u r employed, the company will provide you with a desktop or luckily a Laptop so that u can do office work at home also. People who are buying HiEnd Laptops right now wont be doing there office work on them later.

PS. All the Business Laptops provided by the companies dont have very high config. (including all aspects)eg: Dell LAtitude

Hence u just need a Laptop that can serve your needs during these 2 years.
I don't think that the company u will be employed in will ask you to use your same Personal Laptop u would be using in PG.

@Vishwajeet

Dont frgt that management is about getting ur work done in the most economical way.
"KANJUSI" -- Bro dont make fun of all those eligible candidates who are not relatives of TATA and BIRLAs.
I am really happy to see u r not in the same shoes as i am in today.. but i will be really proud of myself when i will finish all the requirements without touching the other corner called "AYASHI".

By the way i have ordered a Second Hand Thinkpad worth 14K on Ebay.

bhaijaan agar aap kuch aesa khareedna chahte hai ki wo bas do saal chale...and do saaaal mein hi sara paisa wasool ho jaye....
(wasie paisa wasool to ho hi jayega)....and uska price bhi 2 is baat ko madde nazar rakh ke tay kiya jaye ki wo bas do-saal chalega...then u r on a wrong planet buddy...

itna time nahi waste karte...

im so actuated by ur strange queris and doubts...
im writing just being a fellow countryman....or bettr...just a student lik eyou...

itna mat socho bhai ke:
-kitne saaal chalana hai...
-jitni software req hai utna hi config ho...

itna research mat karo bhaijaan...

be proud that u are spending ur 25-30k on a worthy product...
in fact more than worthy of its price...

jao khushi khusi laptop le lo...and hame bhi party do...
itn mat socho baba.....think that its a fee-component....

im not at all making mockery of u....
im humble enuff to grasp these things...

but seriously.....
after seeing ur numerous posts.....many ppl have replied u with very correct infoo..but u still seem to be mired in some doubts and confusions..

ab bhai in sab mushkilo se rahat pao...

BRO I WONT USE ANY NEGATIVE ADJECTIVES....
i said im sure u r not a scroogee...and mite be having some reasons...
but just as medicine no matter how much costly...in any case u have to buy it...
same is the case wid laptops...

WHERE DID I MAKE FUN OF U...
i offred u such a sincere advice.....though unsolicited....

1)im not incapable..but an idiot if i equate owning a laptop= ayyashi...
2)u pls stay happy wid whtevr u ordred....
later u wud realise what is a 2nd hand electronic product and that to from ebay....happy online shopping....

wo kehte hai na...
"mehenga rulaye ek baar-------sasta rulaye baar-baar"
this is not at all a JOKE...NO EXPERT wud encourage u to buy a 2nd hand electronic product....
its a sincere advice though in IN_UR_FACE tone....because of the way u treated me....

even my dad id not so rich...all im saying is that u r goin to get admission in a good collg..achi job bhi hogi...later payback what u spend.....

i didnt prescribe ACER's FERRARI model..
i said instead of goin for netbooks and 2nd hand stuff...bettr spend 25k...and it wud pay u back...

now when ur already taking a loan...u are not at all straining ur parent's kitty...
im proud of u for that...

but wen job lagegi...how much diff wud then remain between 15k and 25 k...

and that too for a laptop....

no more unsolicited advice form my side...u r an adult...

and yess mgmt is not in buyinh cheapest possible thing u can for a purpose...a ceiling is set for prics...but also a floor is set for quality....
