but dell comes with 5470 😞 with i3 and 3-4 GB RAM DDR3

Hey dude even I am confused between Dell studio 15 and Acer 5740G (not 5470). At 45k with ATI 5650 1GB Graphics, 4GB DDR 3 RAM and an awesome intel i5 processor I feel Acer is a steal ! It has the perfect setup for Gamers and Windows 7 runs very smooth on it. Also was impressed with the keypad (reminds me of apple macbook). The looks are fine too and more so I have friends who do not have problems with Acer as such (with 5738G which was the earlier model). Mind you one friend just bought Dell studio 15 but shelled out 55k for converting to i5 + he wanted full HD screen to it and some more stuff etc etc. Took him almost a month though to get his lappy. I have almost decided to go with Acer for now but will take the final call soon.

Many People while choosing any laptop forget one point that is "Service" though its not rated so high in India. but having used different kinds of laptop for almost 10 years in row. I would suggest do consider post purchase expenses..for example in 2 yr or roughly 300 recharge cycles your battery would be dead. What would be the replacement cost.

Also what all the damages being covered under warranty. Problem with laptops are that any replacement cost alot!.Its a hefty sum. and in this Vaio leads the pack. But Vaio laptops have been the sturdiest

Among all till now I have seen Dell service to be the best and good enough to rely on. Would highly recommend to take complete cover warranty as Dell replaces the part whatever be the damage..free of cost.

The worst laptop I have seen till now is of HP. It sucks big time! Overheating..poor service.. scratches on screen and near edges are pretty common though you might fall for its looks.

My last laptop was HP dv4 edition. and its not even an year that I had to get my graphic card replaced as I faced overheating issue. Reason which they gave was Mamy laptop had faulty Nvidia card. and this problem is almost common in all HP laptops..and I had to pay for it :! and now when it came back from service.. after few days I could see my screen support broken and within few days my whole screen came off. Its been nightmare with HP

in the end finally Dell studio has been my best bet! so do consider post purchase factors too while taking a decision. as looks and stuff might b fancy but its huge investment and u wldn't want to throw it away soon

~Cheers

You can go for Dell Studio 15 series, i bought one last year around Diwali.
Configuration: 4GB RAM, 500GB hard disk, 512MB ATI graphics card, Intel Core2 Duo with Vista OS.. plus Studio15 is little stylish than other lappys.
I got this for 49.5K, but now u can get the same for less than 45K with 1GB graphic card and Windows7 OS.

hey out of hp , dell n sony vaiyo which 1 is better
as all r givib sane configuration in difference of 2-3 k

im planning to buy the dell inspiron 11 z mini netbook... and im even getting my favt color: the cute purple!! my sister is getting it frm US ..so its very cheap for me.. around 18 k only 😃 ..does anyone have an idea regrding the model?? any suggestions or feedback???

thnks 😃

Hey guys, my sincere suggestion :
First of all look out what's the purpose u have behind buying a lappy ? Bcoz that's the most important question that will decide on what to go for especially size. If u r not sure, or want everything in ur lappy, I'll suggest a 14 inches model else if bigger than that, u'll find it very diffiicult to carry. Infact I'll suggest a 13 inch, but that's ur take finally. Moreover nowadays nobody watch a movie on a lappy. So small size will do.

Secondly, battery backup could be a potential asset to watch out for especially when u r regularly on move. A 6 cell battery on my 15 inch lasts for around 2.5 hours. Prefer a 9 cell battery if u want more, or go for special series lappy like timeline from Acer or the likes which have low power processors.

Third : LCD/LED glossy/matte finish : This is again a very potential issue that u'll usually come across once u start using a lappy. My take: Don't ever go for a Glossy finished LCD/LED display/screen. Reason: they reflect a lot of light & will make it very difficult to see & puts lots of strain on your eyes. Moreover, I believe nowadays LED displays are common and no lappy comes with WXGA (or likes) that were present before. In any case, prefer LED ones as they have wide viewing angle. With WXGA that I am using, it makes my life hell. U need to adjust ur angle, if u r viewing from different angles, thats pathetic u know. Plz go for Matte finish LED display. I believe DELL lappys usually have glossy finish, so watchout.

Fourth: Warranty cover : This is again very important. Reason : if ur lappy plays fine, no problem, but beware if there is a problem, it gets very expensive. Lookout for deals where u can get 3 years warranty with little more payment. That I feel is worth the money u'll spend. Usually u can ask the dealer for good upgrade options. With Dell, it's very expensive to have upgraded warranty.

That's all I believe. Rest depends on ur preferences. However, I'll say above points are very important. Rest u can compromise wrt the cost u r ready to pay.

the best in decreasing order

1. Dell Studio(45-55k)
2. Dell Inspiron(cheaper than studio as well as all other good brands yet very efficient)(35-44k)
3. HP dv series(43-55k)
4.Vaio

its a personnel choice b/w dell/ sony vaiyo/ hp .. i found dell better bcoz of its service and better looks. Some ppl dont like vaiyo keypad, but on other hand sony vaiyo has better sound.
I prefer dell, infact i earlier had Dell Inspiron nd nw bought Dell Studio..
but if you have asked sm1 to get it frm US, then get HP frm there... i have seen that HP has launched sm new models there, which are better then dell or vaiyo in terms of configuration, looks and prices..

acer i dont know, its just as good as toshiba, sm service and maintainence issues with both..

please do not go for dell mini inspiron 10 as it has a poor battery life and also dell has stopped its production for some reason....I wld instead suggest u gng for acer aspire one if on a tight budget(arnd 17k) or sony vaio/asus for their looks both wld cost arnd 25k and have 2gb ram as compared to acer whch has 1Gb...
