  1. Go for a processor with 2 GHz or more...wont matter if its a intel core2duo or AMD. Both are equally good (I myself have an AMD and its good)

  1. Prefer ATI Gfx card which is at least 256MB (you dont need a gfx card if you are not into hardcore gaming stuff)

  1. DDR3 is better

My advice to you would be to go for a model which offers you 4 GB RAM and then get windows 7 64 bit installed on it (Currently only RC is availaible but windows 7 is set to release on oct 22).

Other than that I can help you out more if you could tell me your usage.

Well they are all correct. These companies are known to have these problem but none of these problems are deal breakers, so you can pick any.

Things that you would need during an MBA course is

* 9 CELL battery so that laptop can run for 4-5 hours without needing a recharge
* On site Warranty and not customer carry in because if you get into XLRI jamshedpur or IIM shillong finding a service center might get tough.
*If you buy a laptop from a good international brand like DELL, SONY, TOSHIBA, LENOVO there should not be much problems.
*4GB Ram is essential because it just makes sense. Ram is dirt cheap and in 2-3 months time you would love the additional 1 GB RAM. Just go for Windows 7 64 bit. Its awesome.
* Lenovo & HP (two lappy I have own ) both have a customer carry in warranty so you should try to avoid them especially if you cant handle minor computer problems yourself.
* Hard disk should be atleast 320 GB
*Go in for a system that does not come in with windows pre installed, that would 4-5 k Cheaper.
* Do take into account the usability of the keyboard and touchpad. You will be using it a lot.
i have abudget of 30k
IS acer the best choice?

Which company does not use China-made components? :w00t:

Buy any machine that has graphics with at least 256 MB of dedicated memory if you would be playing games. (avoid Nvidia M GS8400)

Vaio CS35 seems to be the best of these 3 to me, for it has T8700 which is a Penryn processor which is much superior than the other two. I am assuming they all have integrated X4500 graphics.

P.S - Will it be worth to go for blu ray disc or should i stick to DVD-RW (costs 6000 lesser) ?

I have friends who're facing serious probs with a studio 15. Its keyboard and screen are of a substandard quality and battery is weak. Go for a studio 14 if its possible
Yu may even go for a Dell XPS with ur budget

I heard that Apple is reducing their prices on macbooks and imacs for university students in India. Now the white 13 inch macbook costs RS 49,790 only after the discount. Check this source Apple (India) - Students

I bought an Inspiron with nearly the same config(256 mb graphics card and 320 GB HDD). It's net cost was 42000 for me.(I got corporate discount of 3%). I think it's a better value for money, as I didn't find too much difference between studio and inspiron.(Studio is a little better in looks and in sound quality)

yep Macbook after student discount...
Rs. 49,790/- plus 4% tax so total Rs. 51,780/-

and MacBook Pro - around 59k without 4% tax
(best feature 2,3,4 fingure swipe touchpad, alluminium boby)

suggestions
any problem to DVD rom - least 12k/-
any prob to screen - least 16K/-

so suggesting to buy 3 year service Rs. 13,000/- approx

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how can I get my laptop insured???

Thanks,
Chirag

then why do you want to buy the laptop BAG from dell... just get the other stuff...

This is what happened with me... logged into their site and selected the inspiron15 basic model... around 29K... hit the configure button and upgraded the processor to the max and added a small graphics card too... because these cant be upgraded later. it rounded of to 44K before taxes..
So I submitted this --- dell 2.4 GHz - 256 MB Graphics card - 2GB RAM - 250GB-HD. - 44K +taxes + delivery.

within an hour I got a call from the salesperson and I did not give into him immediately.... I went on .....
Me: "aheemmmmmmm .... need to think!!!"
Dell Guy {DG}: I will waive off the taxes...
Me: "aheemmmmmmm .... need to think!!!"
DG: I will waive even the delivery charge of 900/-... If you confirm your order today.
Me: "aheemmmmmmm .... need to think!!!"
DG: Sir! you chose just 2 GB RAM, I will give you nominal upgrade fee at just 200/- for 3GB RAM
Me: "aheemmmmmmm .... need to think!!!"
DG: How about an optical mouse too??

hmmm... sensing that he might disconnect now... I accepted the deal and Bingo... It was not a bad one... after taxes, I was expecting to have atleast 52K sized hole in my pocket but it was not a bad deal for 44400/- all inclusive.

One sincere suggestion: Go for the anti-virus - McAfee 3 years... you wont get a better deal than while configuring your system.

satyamfiredme Says
are u sure u dint pay any taxes or deleivery. Bargaining happens on dell like this:banghead:

Back-calculated... the invoice(Import duty slip - since the laptop is directly delivered from an SEZ in SriPerambadur) that I received has the system for a lower value and applicable taxes were included and effectively I got for the same price incl. of taxes...

P.S. - this is the way dell works in terms of bargaining and enough banging the head on the wall.

You can submit your order on the dell website but you are not obliged to pay. They would confirm and ship an order only after you pay them. In my case I paid through card over phone.
YA
EVEN i dint pay taxes extra above web price but i had to pay 900 as shipping. u dint?

Nope... that too in Nagpur.... the Blue-Dart guy had to come 23KM from their office passing through 2 octroi posts.... other end of the city
