If there was something like 'better', the company would rather be selling only that one model.

Depens on your needs and budget dude.Come up with your requirements,we shall help you out.

Just a Note... You can still get XP. The way is, get Vista downgrade to XP license. Else wait for Win 7.
Waise try RH Linux or Ubuntu Linux.. They simply rock...

Did you upgrade it from 2 to 3 GB or it came standard? Also, do you mind sharing where you bought it from and for how much. Thank you.

My model ships with 1GB RAM. This is the variant without the web-camera and the fingerprint reader. The variant which does come with the aforementioned thingamajigs, has 2GB RAM on board by the time you extract it from its snug box. I upgraded mine with a 2GB module from Transcend for Rs.1600.

I bought my computer in Bangalore, from a store called Caddons, specifically the KR Road branch, if you know your way around the place. The total, with the upgraded RAM and bundled OS (Vista and XP), three year warranty, carry case et all, lightened my wallet by 53k to be exact.

cheers!!!

p.s If I did not mention it earlier, the R400, across all its variants, ships with a 6 cell battery.

Studio is a tad costlier. Studio is more entertainment/multimedia based than Inspiron. Inspiron can't have a graphics card, Studio can have one.The choice is yours.

Just a correction here Dell has released a new version of Inspiron1545 which can have 4 GB of Ram and 256 MB ATI Raedon Graphics card It is available on their India site.

P.S. - Though it comes with 32 bit windows and 32 bit OS supporting 4GB of RAM is a contentious issue and I am not sure about that.

Thank you very much. Did your laptop come with 3 year onsite warranty or is it customer-carry-in?

Also, did you by any chance ask from that store as to what the ask-price for the other model (the one that ships with 2 GB RAM and finger-print reader) is. On the website, it is 62.5K but I believe they would sell it under 55K.

Vostros are good. Plain looking, no-nonsense laptops. If you are not too much into gaming and multimedia kinda stuff, they are good. Dell has now done a great thing that Vostros and Inspirons now come with a 256 MB Graphics Card, which prove to be much cheaper than Studio 15 of the same configuration (of course Studio 15 has many pluses also). Today only I was in Nehru Place to get my friend a laptop, same config Studio 15 was for 46.5k, Inspiron for 41.5k and Vostro for 42.5k. All three had 256 MB ATI Gfx card too.

Check Dell India website and configure Inspiron 1545 for yourself. Everything else would be easily available but you will have to search a bit if you specifically need Nvidia graphics. I believe most of the Dell laptops are now being shipped with ATI rather than Nvidia. A friend of mine has recently bought Dell Vostro 1510 for 41.5K all inclusive (T8100, 3 GB, 320 GB, Nvidia 8400M GS 256MB, 15'', DOS, 9 cell, carry case)

PS: Screen size is a matter of personal preference. Visit a nearby store and get hang of screen sizes so that you can settle for the one which suits you.

I am very sorry, I didn't have access to the net for quite a while and got caught up in the quagmire that are the first few weeks at a b-school :))

Well, if you haven't already bought a machine, the 3 year warranty is on site and is included in the price that you pay.

As for the price, it retails at around 61k, but it will be a bit of an uphill task trying to bring it down from there.

cheers!!!
