Bulky and fat notebooks are not very convenient to carry especially when you are a student. You gotta carry your books as well, so thin size is the best. The size of Macbook is less than an inch and it doesnt make the students weary. What I like about Mac is its design besides performance. It has everything what a next generation computer should have. Its a good thing that they coming with offers for Indian students. Came across this link Apple (India) - Students , See for yourself for discounts on Macbooks and iMacs.
I wonder if the student community wud be extravagant enuf to shell out so much on Macbooks Filthy costly for the kind of configurations they offer...

I got my hands on a ThinkPad R 400 a few days ago and must say that it is a very nice machine indeed. Quite the same computer as the T 400 and the entry level models on the T series.
Features that I fell in love with are the LED which allows you to work in the dark and the fantastic keyboard. I realised that it was for nothing that the ThinkPad is reputed to have the best keyboards in business. The computer is quite sturdy as well. To understand what I am driving at, flex the LCD monitor of any notebook and then give the ThinkPad a try. The roll cage and the carbon fiber do work. A 6 cell Li-ion is standard and it is a blessing.
On the down side, the R 400 doesn't have a good GPU and the Intel chip just about manages to keep the display crisp. And all that magnificent build does make it a tad heavy. But hey, I don't have to worry about being butter fingered 😉 And oh, I can quite safely assume that not too many people are too fond of the ThinkPad styling.
Mine came with a P8400 C2D, 2.26 GHz, DDR3 1066 MHz RAM (3 GB) and a 5400rpm, 160GB HDD. Very nice configuration if you are not too avid a gamer, which sorely misses the ATI Raedon gpu in the T series. What is horrid about it, however, is the Vista Business it comes preloaded with. Vista can drive you up the wall and this close to the release of Win 7, there is no point in rolling back to XP.
The hp model of the dv4 1211 series is having vista home basic and the dv4 1242 is having vista home premium dv4 1211 is having arnd 42k whereas dv4 1242 is having 47k( mrkt price here), which includes 128mb video card also..everything else is same as dv4 1211
actually i'm having a bias over dv4 1211, i like the design and since i wont be much ...does the OS really differ much from premium to bacis for a bschool guy????
wat r the main diff b/w Vista home basic and Vista Home premium...
Still not launched in iNDia ,so no reviews yet.........yes but internationally excellent reviews......8hrs battery life:wow:.......
but no optical drive in any model;).....so if one can live without it ........cool machine to go for........scores over mac book air due to price!!!
even option of taking solid state drive (of course if ur pocket allows)..
Tnx pals 4 ur reply....yeah dell is sturdy n it goes well for rough handling ...but the luks of hp dv series
i'm locked in another confusion

Plz do reply
windows media center and aero is present in premium but not in basic
apart from that is there a need for a bschool student to opt for vista premium over vista home basic...
Hey,
Not in the least. In fact you should be happier with the Vista Home-Basic. Most of the extra features on the Vista Premium are eyewash. Besides, it hogs system resources, enough to drive you mad; so for a budget laptop configuration, without a nifty graphics chip, abundant RAM and a more than decent processor, it is not really a good idea. I would prefer XP to Vista, but then that is just me 😃
You will never miss the Premium as far as your usage for a b-school is concerned.

cheers.
Did you upgrade it from 2 to 3 GB or it came standard? Also, do you mind sharing where you bought it from and for how much. Thank you.
