Sony and Apple are really aesthetically built. My friend has a Mac Book pro. Yet to check it out.
However, Compaq and HP and Toshiba has to qualify as mid range good looking laptops.
Cheers.
Hi :)
In ur quest for good laptops hv a look at this one before you make a final dive. The price performance ratio is just too hot
Infact it roped me away from the Dell XPS 1330 ... I went ..i saw ..and i was almost conquered.

Hello sgx100,
just wanted to know weather the performance of the processor is comparable to INTEL CORE 2 DUO???
Also how is the general performance of AMD compared to Intel???
want to sell my sony vaio....1 year old (80GB, 1GB RAM) ...
want to get a new one.. can anyone help as in where they take old stuffs ????
Hi prilinjb
The performance is certainly not comparable to an INtel Core 2 Duo I recommended that laptop only if you dont want to spend much on a laptop..but still want something that can run all the recent games and not let you down in MBA computingTo tell you the facts..I played NFS 2 Underground on that laptop and it was won hands down over a friends 256 MB onboard dedicated NVidia Card. So that speaks volumes abt the capabilities of the mean machine Try going thru the following article I am unable to insert the link..will paste the article Source
Notebooks - Intel Core 2 Duo vs AMD's Turion 64 X2 IslandGamers-Technology And Gaming Info The Intel Core 2 outperforms the AMD chip by a wide margin. Intels Core processor family is rather dominant, and clearly offers better performance than the Turion 64 X2 family. If performance is what youre looking for, AMDs Turion 64 X2 is hardly an alternative. However, performance depends very much on a mobile computers particular configuration: memory size and speed, hard drive spindle speed and the graphics subsystem (discrete vs. shared graphics) have quite an impact on the result. Last but not least, keep processor performance in perspective: weight and battery runtime may be even more important to you anyway. In the end, we consider it very important to compare complete notebooks (and their costs) rather than focusing on CPU performance too much. For performance, the Intel line is the way to go at the moment for notebooks (and desktops too actually).

in delhi, Nehru Place is Computer Hub ... so you will find loads of dealer there
also, post your configuration along with expected price here, you might find a buyer on PG itself
Hi Prolinjb,
To tell you the truth...
Even a simple Celeron M with 512 MB RAM wud see you thru ur MBA stint in any B school in India or anywhr else
The rigs of an MBA programme would never require your Core 2 Duos/MADs..AMDs
to even flex a share of their computing prowess.
All that you would need to complete your MBA smoothly wud be a processor that can run MS Office , run Google, surf pages on Internet Explorer/ Firefox
and not disappoint when you want to take a break and compose a melody for yur lady love ( If you find one
)
For the above said functions even a 486 wud suffice ![]()
In other words any laptop with a decent config in the market wud see you sail off in style...lest you want to flash those VIAOs/XPS/Macs
Try going through the following link...
I was forwarded this by a friend of mine whose abt to join IIM L
This one is from HP n I think will be a mass buy among the new MBAs of the season

My toy for the next two years....
For ur querries
Any lappy with a dedicated graphics card wud enhance the graphics...read better games
and also not consume the system RAM
Laptops with integrated graphics card like GMA graphics accelerator from Intel are decent enough..for normal uses
What is the configuration of the IBM Thinkpad..Maybe if I can know that I can suggest if you need an upgrade...
As far as the AMD/Intel..its a war which will will always go on
As for now Intels Core 2 Duos are faster than AMDs 64 Bit processors.
Buy having said that the optimum performance of any processor is only realized when you pair it up with optimum RAM,Hard disk, Bus speeds et al
Basically...its what you want ur laptop to do when you throw a million instructions to it per second..You would never be able to do that anyways...during a MBA programme..lest you decide to swap careers in the midst of the course and decide to become a graphics programmer or die hard gamer
To compare two laptops you need to see into the configs for performance...performance vs price equations..after sales service..warranties..and valued feed backs of old users
Feel free to revert :Dthnks sgx100,

You are partially right. If you plan to buy a Dell laptop in the US, you need to buy it with a 3-4 yr warranty. (50-100$ extra) This way you will be covered internationally.
Otherwise the warranty that comes with the laptops are only for an year and are limited to US locations.
Please PM me if anyone from bangalore is ineterested in buying Sony Vaio VGN-CR36G/B or Sony Vaio VGN-CR35G/L. We can get some discounts for bulk order. Also they have a 0% finance scheme.

PM me if anyone is interested. We can try and bargain more.
If you can get Sony Viao from US then get it. It's much cheaper there. Cheaper than Dell.
You can even configure laptop as you can on Dell's website on Sony, US website. It's not available in India.
If we can get a cheaper deal in Sony Viao with good config then I am interested.
Please write the config that we can get.

i am really interested but will not be able to make a decision until June 11
The reason: I am going to Singapore and looking to buy the lappie from there if possible coz i will be needing the warranty from theere. I check Vaio at e-zone and they have just specified domestic warranty which is not useful for me... so if Vaio + Intl warranty is costing me lesser here count me in.. but can let u knw only by June 11

you could do a search for "windows xp downgrade" with the model number.
most laptop manufacturers provide drivers for win xp ....
ofcourse ......... they will expect u to have a copy of windows xp
edit : i tried that for my vaio ..... but some features don't work under XP 😐

I would like to know whether b-school demands a high end laptop. Right now i feel it will be better for me to choose sub 30k laptop. Will quality be an issue? Is it ok to go for minimal config laptop?
