I configured a dell inspiron 1420 and it came to 47k post taxes
How much wud be the freight charges be...
Which courier do the DELL people use
I chose the NVIDIA dedicated graphics card over the Intel onboard GMA (More greed than necessity
)
2 gb 667 RAM
160 GB ....
I was really confused over which processor to choose
I chose 1.83 GHz @ 2 MB L2 cache....I suppose that wud suffice most of the needs...A little bit of NFS underground
is all I need. + some few good new games, apart from regular MBA stuff....and the ability to run Viesta with Aero
How heavy is 1420
Can it be carried around easily or I need to do
Help me 😁

You can exclude VAT if you have configured it online. It would weigh 2.5 kg.
Those thinking of purchasing HCL or Toshiba Laptops can PM me as i am working with HCL Tech Noida and employees of HCL get the discount on HCL or Toshiba products.
Digital_Saint SaysYou can exclude VAT if you have configured it online. It would weigh 2.5 kg.
Places of delivery where VAT is not applicable :
Karnataka ,tamilnadu, andrapradesh, newdelhi, navi Mumbai(maharashtra) madhya Pradesh, gujrat, Punjab, chandigarh.
What does it mean...No VAT for delhi..or because I have configured it online. CAnt seem to understand it?
Also has the excise duty been reduced from 12 to 10.6 %. Anyone has a idea.? Has the prices been adjusted post budget ?
Wat abt the octroi charges ?
Any idea if the prices will be slashed in the coming months.
I can wait till June...as I want a lappy before July :)
Thnx

I wanted a desktop, so I rang up the Dell Bangalore folks on the number they gave regularly in newspaper adverts. Got no response after a long ring. What really matters is after sales service, & for that purpose I feel Dell has its shorfalls due to direct sales.
So ultimately fell back on my dedicated vendor for the past 5 years, & got an assembled desktop for Rs. 25,500 today. (Saved 1000 bucks by not taking a bill, just the invoice will suffice, As I trusted that guy with my previous 2 machines). Got a 3 year warranty on the Samsung TFT 19" wide view screen, cost Rs.10,000 inclusive in the price). 2 GB RAM, 2.2 Ghtz Intel Processor, 160 GB HDD. Sony DVD/CD Combo (Dual 2 core assembly).
I dunno why laptops are so expensive, i could get 2 desktops in the same configuration you mentioned.

I am also planning to buy a laptop, so I had called up Dell and their representative asked me to exclude VAT; dont know if it has been waved off or Dell is gonna pay it.
Dont know about octroi/excise either. Just call them up on 1800- 425- 4026, toll free from BSNL/MTNL.

Cannot speculate if the prices will go down or not but for a specific configuration the price should most likely go down, given you can get that configuration in the coming months. If you noticed, the price of Inspiron 1420 went up by a few thousand a week or so ago. That is because T5450 got phased out and now the processsor available is T5550 and the RAM went up from 1 GB to 2 GB and also the price now includes a Nylon case for the laptop. So, rather than slashing the prices, they might give you better configuration at same price.

As far as can rem'r Dell is going to bear the charges. But I will call up the Dell representatives. I suppose they give you discounts or free upgrades if you can really bargain hard . Any Ideas

Thats true ... But still wud like to limit it to sub 50

If you check the website now, it would show VAT as nil. 50K is good enough to get a decent laptop.
As far as I am concerned, I day dream a lot. I dont have money to buy a laptop as of now and I plan to buy one in the coming months.
I have not made up my mind yet but I like the Inspiron 1420; might even consider buying a Thinkpad T series if I win a jackpot by then.
i am waiting for may. Might wait till june even if i feel a good model is coming out. I have heard from Hp vendors to wait. So all those who can bear a few days wait, i suggest a little patience. The HP 6767tx series is becoming old, and i hear HP 6790 is gonna come. So lets wait and see.
Oh will check up the dell site once again
Well as for day dreams Im not far behind....
Jus saw the new MAc Air or something today...5 pounds:crazyeye: is all whats the baby weighs
..it does not stop there..Alienware
Ferrari from Acer...LAmborbhini from MSi i guess...:|
But i know i will have to wake up to an Inspiron 1420...reality bites ![]()
Will certainly wait for a couple of months as Im going home..will come back to Delhi ..and then will check up the prices again :D
LAstly ..I have never wont even a housie...ho a jackpot seems too weird an idea for me...

Well i would like to tell all the puys looking for a laptop that i have just recieved my DELL XPS1530...So any queries related to the XPS series can be directed towards me...by the way, as of now i'm impressed by the following things:
1. Everything...right from every accessory to cd's, instruction manuals...everything has been provided a case/cover/bag to keep it in.
2. the lappy is sleek and sexy...let me tell u its very light, thin..looks really good.
3. also friends anyone ordering it kindly order it with a nylon backpack...its woth giving 1500 odd bucks...
I'm planning to buy a dell xps 1330 at 46k approx! Is it worth it? Or should I wait for a while... Contrary to quite a few posts above, I've heard that Dell support is relatively good.
My options are xps 1330 vs hp dv 6767tx vs compaq 1378 tu (...i think)
Will a 13.3 inch monitor suffice?
Experts, please advise.

Friends,
I am getting an xps 1330 for 46.xk and xps 1530 for 42k (aprox). Is it worth the incremental cost to get a 13 in one or will the 15 in b fine? My budget was abt 40k, but since it is a gud config of xps, i can go a little further - 42k is fine. BUt 46k is seriously a little steep. What say friends? 1330 or 1530? Meaning, shud i b buying a lappy jus for b school, or for life beyond? In b school i suppose the important thing is battery life and not mobility. But after b school, mobility mite b important. Its a tough choice. I hope u ppl can help. Thanks.

the screen size wont make much of a difference....but go for he bigger screen if you are a muvee buff....13 will not give the same satisfaction.
And one small advice....dont plan too much for the life beyond B School...coz your laptop will probably be obsolete by then! ;)
Btw, wots the conifg of he laptops? processor and RAM?

hi ankur...go for a 15inch...13inch is a bit too small...also a 13inch wil strain ur eyes during long hrs of work..portability will not b a problem..just order a nylon backpack frm dell itself..its worth the money

Is there such a big difference b/w the price they show online and the outlet price...
chakde SaysIs there such a big difference b/w the price they show online and the outlet price...
The difference is due to the fact that i'll be buying it in the name of a Dell employee.
