hai can i reply... 1.VISTA is cool for a visual treat as in the graphics & all r grt...same if u compare XP & Windows 98.. but VISTA will work properly with 1Gb RAM.. thts all i know....correct me if i'm wrong 2.As i hv known some of the b-school uninstall ur anti-virus & install their own..thts wat will do in the 1 i'm joining...so a 30 day trial pack is enuf.. & hai what u do 2 ur home PC...uu can get the same antivirus for the laptop.. 3.MY personal take...this speed hardly matters for a b-schooler.. we aint using any realtime application...but yes had to be a std one.....u can choose the 2Ghx one but then if we can save some grand by opting the 1.66Ghz then y not!! 4.Depends on ur personal choice...HP & Sony is good but overpriced in India..as u know i'm opting for DELL coz of the feedback i got from seniors abt it being hardy & reliable & also its after-sales is awesome.
Just to Add...hai as it's specified in the dell site itself...Vostro is a good for business use & all... so i dint opt for Vostro..& i dont think there's a 14' option with a webcam
hope it helps!!
hi ankur4851,
buddy vista is a resource guzzler. thats why for vista my budget is going above 60k. there is no point in using vista unless you have something special in mind. your configuration is good enough for MBA. no need to buy a new laptop at all.
i will repeat this again:- you config is good enough. no need to buy a new one.
but if you want to buy a new lappy, then go for dual core around 2ghz, 2 gb ram, 15.4" like in many HP models or compaq or Dell. They will all cost around 45k for your kind of reqms. hope i could help.
hope u know that dell xps 1530 has only 1 usb port on the notebook, and it had some resolution problem though it has been overcome now... i also wanted to buy this one but usb thing put me off. Nothing against dell just trying to help u make an informed decision. If they sort out the usb problem i guess it wud become one of the better deals around cheers
thanks saurav007, did look at that. am now also looking at hp. the 6767tx is qute amazing. even looking at tablet lappies.
will do some research before i buy. After all a lappy is 45k or more, so am spending some time. thanks a lot for the heads up.

yeah hp 6767tx is a hot item..definitely thumbs up 4it...i saw it on a hp store in bhopal..just that they wer not giving a 3gb ram...also dell offered at 2mp camera, 8-in-1 card reader and 1-yr accidental international warranty that lured me more into taking dell...though deb u can also hv a look at toshiba ones...my daddy has been using one for around 4yrs...its been a steady performer..and it being a top japanese electronics company adds a lot of reliability to it...they're not too much of body beautiful but really good performers.
hi i am waiting for may. i have heard that a new hp model is gonna be available. i am waiting for it, and the prices of dell to drop before i buy. anyways am gonna go to delhi first to have a look at all models all ranges before i decide. will post the survey result for all here.

Am going for the same one i think. a few queries
1. It has one USB port only? 2. You sure about the after sales services in dell?
Otherwise too, a general idea about how the laptop is running would be appreciated. Thanks.
Can someone tell me abt their after sales service...Is it good
Also, how one makes a payment...
Do you have to pay in full...
How long do they take to ship you the product
Does the lappys arrive from India/USA ??
The after sales services is generally outsourced by DELL in India to Wipro employees; they are also the ones who take ur calls and give you assistance if so required.
Ofcourse u have to pay in full, and in advance.
It generally takes 3 weeks to a month after the payment is made, and it is shipped not from US of A (after all they won't do the low-cost assembling work in usa), but generally from Malaysia. There are no DELL assembly plants in India, even a small part if required later would be shipped from its plants in countries like Malaysia,Singapore etc.

There seems to be few experts here, so mates just want to know few things. I have heard parts of laptop are much more difficult to get by therefore will like to know which laptop will be best to buy in that case and which in ling term is a good choice. After sales service is obvoiusly a great concern thus will like you to give your suggestion. Is buying a 1-2 year old second hand laptop is a good choice?

hi .. .you've heard it right .... and the reason is .. a laptop is manufactured as a single unit and cannot be "assembled" (as is possible for desktops) ....
also, the only parts of a laptop that can be upgraded are the hard-disk and the RAM ....
as for the option of a second hand lappy, i would advise that ONLY if you are facing a severe liquidity crunch!

Parts are difficult to get by because upgrading a laptop is not as easy as upgrading a desktop computer is. So it is always advisable to put your money at the best place at the time of purchasing a laptop itself. Go for Dell Inspiron 1420, preferably with at least T8100 processor, 160 GB 7200 rpm HDD and Nvidia 8400M GS.
Buying a second hand laptop is not a good idea in my opinion.
