get_amazed Sayswell me going for dell. the models are awesome. i am going for a xps 1530 laptop.
hope u know that dell xps 1530 has only 1 usb port on the notebook, and it had some resolution problem though it has been overcome now... i also wanted to buy this one but usb thing put me off. Nothing against dell just trying to help u make an informed decision. If they sort out the usb problem i guess it wud become one of the better deals around

the performance would depend primarily on the configuration ...
in that area ... all manufacturers would have a wide range of configs to offer...
another factor would be build quality ....
here .. being a vaio user myself ... i can tell u the build quality is *excellent* :)
also.... the preinstalled software affects performance .... sony vaio comes with a LOT of bloatware ........ u would have to get rid of most of it ..... and that will indeed result in a performance boost !!

well ..... i think the extra 10k is what u pay for the vaio branding 😉
if u have a similar config for a lower price ...... then why not ...
.... it then comes down to personal preference .... and the price ur willing to pay :)

if u can ship it from the US (as in - get a relative/friend to bring it along) ...... that's another gr8 option ...... last year, a friend of mine got a fully loaded Dell lappy from the US .... for just over half the price quoted in India !!

i was looking at the dell xps m1530 n the inspiron 1525..
but m not sure of the after sales service of dell..
i not into gaming.. i ll b using the laptop for basic purposes.. (b school related work.. movies.. music.. net surfing.. etc.)
m looking for an intel core 2 duo.. 2gb ram.. 100+ gb hdd..
budget - 45k
which one shud i go for?

dell xps is the best as far as my judgement is concerned, but costly.inspiron should serve ur purpose for long term very well, go for inspiron 1420..14inch lappy and at 45000(+-)1000 u can get a reall happening configuration.visit www.dell.co.in

go ahead for 1420...for a bschool acpplication its the lightest in its category,14inch is a gud screen size and u'll get a dream-config at around 45k

took a look at the acer series. not that good. better go for a hp or compaq model. compaq presario or hp pavillion will meet your demands perfectly. they look good and are quite sturdy. also right now, hp has the best after sales service.
